Her earliest memory was watching her mother play classical piano. She began piano lessons at the age of 8, and started composing shortly thereafter.Stevens approaches her compositions as an artist. She paints musical portraits of the things that bring meaning to life: relationship to living things, emotional healing, discovering what matters most and honoring that as best we are able. Stevens' beautiful piano-based music aligns one with their own heart. Although some of her music can be described as New Age, her roots are heavily based in classical and jazz. Her study of classical composition makes her music more complex than some New Age music. Her music has been likened to the impressionistic composers such as Claude Debussy. Sydney's formal training is also reflected in her ability to compose for orchestral instruments. Her latest release, Cycles of Life, was solely recorded and produced by Sydney, programming all of the virtual instruments.Sydney has a great love for jazz. Keith Jarrett was an influence on her with his innovative and improvisational piano recordings and performances. She was particularly impressed with the freedom of style he portrayed in his performances. Bill Evans was something Sydney heard played as a young child. Where her mother was a classical pianist, her father was a jazz pianist. Perhaps that's why some of Sydney’s music can be described as a crossover between classical and jazz--remnants from those early years. Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins were big inspirations for Sydney's songwriting. She was especially drawn to the deeply emotional lyrics in many of their songs.Cycles of Life, the title track from Sydney's current release, was composed for her late step dad. The song is about the cycle of birth and death: Cycles of life go on, yet we carry all that we've known and loved through the ages. Time, another track on Sydney's current release, is a song about how time passes more quickly when we are doing something we cherish. Brian's Song, inspired by the loss of her father-in-law, reflects: All that really matters is the way we fill our heart, and the ways that it has loved. Dawn, a track from Sydney's album Seasons, is a beautiful piano-based instrumental with light string background. It portrays that very peaceful hour as the sun slowly lights up the world -- the hour of dawn.Sydney is a poet. She sees the world through a heart that feels the joy and sorrow of the world and those she meets. Her gift is the ability to transfer that emotion into music. Listening to her music is like taking a journey. She delves into depths of emotion, often taking the listener to places that can be difficult to go without the comfort of a beautiful song to accompany them.In addition to being a prolific composer, Stevens runs a.

THE GREAT HUMILITY OF CHRIST (SATB) – Philippians 2:5-11

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926663 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 7 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588423. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926663). In chapter two of Paul's letter to the Philippians, Paul begins speaking to his readers about encouragement, comfort from love, participation in the Spirit, and godly affection and sympathy for one another. He says, we are to count others as more important than ourselves. He pleads, Complete my joy by doing these things. From this point, Paul breaks immediately into this other known 1st century Hymn to Christ (Verses 5-11), which I have called, The Great Humility of Christ. The hymn text is a beautiful exposition of the Gospel; Christ in the form of God, did not hold onto (grasp) His equality with God, but humbled Himself and took on the human form of a servant (slave) and poured Himself out for all of mankind. The anthem is composed for SATB (a cappella) choir in two stanzas, with a bridge section and a coda. The piece is scored in D minor, but weaves between D minor and G Major (representing the dual natures of Christ-fully God and fully man). After the first stanza, regarding Christ’s taking on human flesh, the unthinkable happens; Christ humbles Himself in holy obedience to be put to death, even a humiliating and repugnant death on a cross. Here in the anthem we find the musical bridge between the two stanzas with the sopranos holding onto a single note (high D) followed by a cascade of dissonant suspensions, one voice handing off to the other, finally resolving in a descending scale. The second stanza declares God’s having exalted Christ as a consequence of His sacrifice, giving Him a name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. The final coda (in G Major) trumpets the pronouncement that; Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.

String Quartet - Intermediate - Digital Download By Panic! At the Disco. Arranged by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee. Score, Set of Parts. 21 pages. Published by Sarah Chaffee
"High Hopes" was released by Panic! At The Disco in 2018 as a single from their sixth studio album, "Pray For The Wicked." This upbeat, catchy song soon became a smash hit, reaching number 4 on the Billboard charts and becoming their highest-charting single of all time. This arrangement for string quartet has the exuberant energy, rich harmonic layers, driving beat, and dynamic impact of the original, and it's absolutely as much fun to play as it is to listen to! Great for parties, corporate events, solo & ensemble contests, or even weddings and receptions, it's a guaranteed crowd pleaser and you're sure to get your audience singing along. This arrangement is dedicated to a good friend of mine who was in P!ATD's string section on their "Pray For The Wicked" tour -- Kiara, it was so much fun watching you play this song with them! Rated intermediate, this chart will be playable for students and easily sightreadable for professionals. There is nothing above first position in the V2, viola, and cello parts, and only a few notes higher than that in V1. There are a few tied rhythms in but nothing too complicated.<br> <br> Why choose Cellobat Charts arrangements? For any musician who knows what they're doing, the answer is easy: just listen to them. Every freelance musician has thrown hard-earned money away on questionable, error-filled charts by unknown arrangers from weird corners of the Internet. But watch out -- inferior arrangements not only make gigs less enjoyable to play, but they also make your group sound bad to your client and audience, no matter how great your players really are. That's why Cellobat Charts is here: to provide students and working string players alike with high-quality versions of highly requested music. My arrangements are guaranteed to be energetic, fun to play, and enjoyable to listen to, whether or not you're familiar with the original songs. Hear the difference for yourself! Full videos of many Cellobat Charts arrangements are available on YouTube so you know exactly what you're getting. M45 is the Messier catalog number for an open star cluster better known as the Pleiades. Oot-kwa-tah is dedicated to Schenectady County Community College on the forty-fifth anniversary of the college’s establishment as part of the State University of New York. The college sits on land that was once part of the Mohawk nation of the Iroquois Confederacy. Oot-kwa-tah is inspired by the Iroquois legend of M45, the Pleiades star cluster. The Iroquois tell a story about seven children who met each day and danced for hours at a time instead of doing chores. An old man appeared to them one day as they danced. He shone magnificently like silver and was clad from head to toe in brilliant white feathers. The old man warned them to stop dancing lest something terrible happen to them. Ignoring the old man’s warning and growing more and more hungry and lightheaded the children began to rise into the air. If only they had listened to me, the old man thought. As the children’s parents gathered, one little boy heard his father’s voice below. The little boy looked down and saw his father. At that instant he fell back to earth. The other children continued to float higher and higher into the sky to become the Pleiades star cluster. The Iroquois call them Oot-kwa-tah and are reminded of these reckless children each time they see a falling star.

Duration: 5:00

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Horn,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802608 By Steve Green. By Greg Nelson and Phill McHugh. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Christian,Gospel. Score and parts. 11 pages. Peet du Toit #5983089. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802608). Steve Green is the son of missionaries. It therefore seemed natural that this song written by Greg Nelson and Phil McHugh which pictures hungry, hurting people who are unaware of the Christian message, would resonate with him. However, Green had a life-changing experience when he realized he'd been living a fake and phoney life, where he'd been doing the right things but with the wrong motives. He'd therefore understood his desperate need for a Saviour and ran to Jesus for what He alone can provide. As a consequence, when this song was pitched to him, Green had just come through a pretty significant life turn-around. The singer recalled to CCM Magazine presents 100 Greatest Songs In Christian Music: It resonated for two reasons - first, because my parents had given their lives to evangelize, and their love for the people they were serving around the world was motivated by Christ's love for them; so that was definitely one of the reasons why I gravitated to the song. The other reason was that for the for the first time, I suppose, I was realizing that it isn't just those who never heard about the Lord who needed him. I knew that I was surrounded by people just like me who were living kind of an external, performance-based Christianity, but they had no light. I started thinking of us as the 'elder brothers' - those who never ran away from home but were just as lost as the prodigal.Watch Steve Green singing this heartfelt song on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbxvc6eeXso .I found this music and lyrics so inspiring and beautiful, I just had to translate it to brass instruments. Enjoy!

Instrumental Duet,Keyboard - Digital Download SKU: A0.1497847 Composed by Jenni Roditi. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 11 pages. Jenni Roditi #1074259. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497847). Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Thread, Between the Octaves grew out of the call the make a single line weave between the octaves. Line was the original title. Thread, as a word, brings more texture to the title and describes what the line is actually doing, threading around the harmony. A secondary thread is heard after a while, echoing and shading the primary line, with its own treble weave. It was like going back to the beginning of making melody again.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. The whole suite follows a long line from movement 1 to movement 7. However, individual pieces are well suited to be played alone too. Piano Duo is ideally two Steinway grands, otherwise, whatever is available. An enjoyment of the tensions and relationships generated between the two instruments: grand-upright, upright-electronic keyboard is to be explored as a positive. Each piece creates its own world in the suite and can be part of smaller subgroups taken from the suite, in any combination, but the order of the pieces needs to be maintained if more than one is played. Here is a taste of the background to the musical world of this 53 minute compositional suite. During a reflective time I read the following: The whole philosophy of dharma art (Buddhist art) is that you don't try to be artistic, but you just approach objects as they are, and the message comes through automatically. (Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, from 'True Perception The Path of Dharma Art.' Shambhala 2008, p.133.) The 'objects as they are' became the 'octaves as they are'. As the pieces were composed the octaves had a centring and clarifying role that allowed other material to circulate around or play against them. They acted as pivots, repetitions, drones, ostinati, pointillist nodes, pedals, melodic features, struts, harmonic turnpikes, breathing spaces, bass lines: musical imperatives. The octaves called the musical shots most of the time. When the music pulled a semitone up or down and away from the octaves (as it did quite often) it was especially telling in the context of the ringing spaces the octaves were creating. I became interested in the subtle dislocation that two pianos could provide. By dislocation I mean a degree of tension between the natural acoustics of the two instruments in the room and the players idiosyncrasies as musicians. The whole point of this work was to examine the nature of my syntax, grammar, and compositional thinking. The title demanded one thing above all: what notes am I going to use between these octaves?? My choice of notes was derived in most instances from the tempo, pitch, and rhythm of the initial octaves at the beginning of each piece alongside the individual word titles that I set out to explore as musical images. The audio was developed from Sibelius software, via MIDI to Logic samples of a Steinway grand piano.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1183999 By Wesley Besancon. By Wesley Besancon. Arranged by Wesley Besancon. Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Multicultural,Patriotic,World. Score and parts. 111 pages. Wesley Besancon #783697. Published by Wesley Besancon (A0.1183999). Have you ever wondered who was credited for setting up the first Thanksgiving? Or who braught peace to the tension between Natives and English? Squanto is credited for doing both of these things. One of the first recoreded Native Americans, Squanto lived from 1585 to 1622. He was part of the Patuxet tribe, and taught settlers how to satisfy basic needs. And as far as the eye can see, there is no band music dedicated for him. So I have made a piece showing what may have happened when the settlers came. While not completly accurate, It is a great representation (and honor to Squanto) for your next concert!. The piece begins on a nice warm day, in a playful, dancelike movement, this quickly turns to anger as they see a bird that is not able to be hunted. This confusion leads to the mysteriousness that was most likely happening upon the natives. They start to pray to their gods. All of a sudden, the ship lands and a war breaks out! But Squanto wants to embrace this new culture they have brought, which slowly calms the fighting down. Eventually, the English Culture (represented by Hot Cross Buns) is embraced in the polytonal ways (disagreement). The final part is a chorale representing peace.Errata:Â 107: Singing is stopped.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.930752 Composed by Andrew Schneider. Baroque,Christian,Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 18 pages. Andrew Schneider #3584607. Published by Andrew Schneider (A0.930752). This is a choral anthem setting of Psalm 117 designed for either church or concert use. In its effortless use of various elements of Baroque practice, I have written a piece which will hopefully be useful for high schools and community colleges with smaller choirs to get students to sing works which can prep them for repertoire. Churches will also find this a work appropriate for any festive occasion and also useful in telling people that composers actually exist today who like the bygone way of doing things. And also with a rather exciting piano part! I certainly enjoy raising the bar.To that end, the A section can be sung on its own as a separate piece, as it is deliberately easier than the B section, which has more chromatic and polyphonic passages. This is the perfect piece to convey to high school students the impression that Baroque music can be exciting, spontaneous, and not old-fashioned, and in a matter which will be immediately perceived to be authentic. The ad libitum trumpet parts are available directly from the composer. Though they are not strictly necessary for a successful performance, they do give a special spice and festive aura that can only be beneficial.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.882279 Composed by Robert Lowry (1826 - 1899). Arranged by A. Douglas Biggs. Concert,Contemporary,Easter,Sacred,Spiritual. Score. 12 pages. Adrian D Biggs #6519029. Published by Adrian D Biggs (A0.882279). Over the years, I have had occasion to create arrangements of various hymns and spirituals for my own use as well as for other performers. My intent has always been to take a fresh look at familiar material, to make something both challenging and rewarding for the performers involved and still retain the audience connection found in doing the Old Songs. Shall We Gather is an adaptation of the old hymn Shall We Gather at the River by Robert Lowry (1826 – 1899). The calm flowing power of the river runs through this arrangement. As the river flows and changes, so does its reflection in the music of strength and the enduring capacity of faith. This arrangement is substantive and expressive for both the vocalist and the pianist. Suitable for recital or worship. It is expressive and passionate, requiring an established singer. The accompaniment is at times straight forward and at others requiring a confident hand in the more ornate and robust passages.

Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 12 minutes Year of composition: 2006 Program Note: The mind searches for the oddest of couples. Felix Unger and Oscar Madison. Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett. The violin and the vibraphone. Aside from the letter V, the two instruments have almost nothing in common. We consider: the violin is the most aristocratic instrument in the Western musical tradition, the prima donna of the instrumental world, an instrument that has had, lavished upon it, more extraordinary music than any other since its invention roughly 475 years ago. And then there’s the vibraphone, a percussion instrument with pitched metal bars and motor-driven resonators that produce a vibrato. Invented around 1925, it’s an instrument created for dance bands and popular music. Anything You Can Do . . . is a confrontation between these two musical opposites. A sense of contest characterizes the entire piece, as the vibraphone seeks to establish its bona fides side by side with the violin, which in turn attempts to keep the vibraphone in its place by beating it at its own game. The first movement is conceived as a race, in which each instrument acts like the other – the violin explosively and percussively, and the vibraphone with lengthy bowed passages – while seeking to shake off the other. The movement concludes with the violin paying a series of huge, chords and a long, sustained triple-stop that, much to its fury, the vibraphone manages to match with a sustained double-stop of its own. The movement ends in a draw. The second movement begins with the violin doing its best to match the vibrato patterns of the vibraphone’s variable motor. Ultimately, the violin breaks free and plays a broad, arioso-styled melody. The vibraphone tries to match it, but cannot; try as it might, its fixed range cannot reach the stratospheric heights of the violin. Advantage violin. The third movement is constructed in three sections. In the outer sections, rapidly rising and falling lines and counter rhythms pervade as each instrument seeks to gain an advantage over the other. In the middle section, alternating, hocket-like phrases give way to bent notes and glissandi in the vibraphone, which infuriates the violin (how dare this upstart percussion instrument do something ordinarily associated with me?). The movement concludes with the violin once again attempting to lord its greater range over the vibraphone by playing a long sustained F# - the same pitch that conquered the vibraphone at the end of the second movement – only to have the vibraphone top it by playing a harmonic a full seven notes above the F#. Game, set, match: vibraphone. Some respect, please, for the new kid on the block. Anything You Can Do . . . is dedicated, with a thousand-and-one thanks, to Victor Romasevich and Jack van Geem.
