La Bamba is a Mexican folk song, originally from the state of Veracruz, best known from a 1958 adaptation by Ritchie Valens, a Top 40 hit in the U.S. charts. Valens's version is ranked number 345 on Rolling Stone magazine′s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is the only song on the list sung in a language other than English.According to a 1945 article in Life magazine, the song and associated dance were brought out of the jungle at Veracruz by American bandleader Everett Hoagland, who introduced it at Ciro's nightclub in Mexico City. It became popular, and the song was adopted by Mexican presidential candidate Miguel Alemán Valdés who used it in his successful campaign.La Bamba has been covered by numerous artists, notably by Los Lobos whose version was the title track of the 1987 film La Bamba, a bio-pic about Valens; their version reached No. 1 in many charts in the same year.Here's an ensemble version of Edrich Siebert' great arrangement for brass band. The origin of this song is unknown, but it was first recorded by the Paramount Jubilee Singers. It has spiritual roots, predominantly in Black America. It also turned out as a popular jazz standard. Edrich Siebert did a military-like arrangement for a full brass band. It inspired me to transcribe it for a smaller wind ensemble, replacing mainly the horn section with saxophones, and included a clarinet. Enjoy!

Basin Street Blues is a song often performed by Dixieland jazz bands, written by Spencer Williams in 1928 and recorded that year by Louis Armstrong. The verse with the lyric Won't you come along with me / To the Mississippi... was later added by Glenn Miller and Jack Teagarden.The Basin Street of the title refers to the main street of Storyville, the red-light district of early 20th-century New Orleans, north of the French Quarter. It became a red light district in 1897.Here's a laid back arrangement by the brilliant Erich Siebert, adapted for a brass quintet and percussion to be enjoyed by the players and the audience!

Elizabethan Serenade is a light music composition by Ronald Binge. When it was first played by the Mantovani orchestra in 1951, it was simply titled Andante cantabile, although the original orchestral manuscript parts in Ronald Binge's own hand show the title The Man in the Street (possibly the title of an early television documentary). The name was altered by the composer to reflect the post-war optimism of a new Elizabethan Age that began with the accession of Queen Elizabeth II in February 1952. The Günter Kallmann Choir also made it famous by recording it in the Kango Caves in South Africa.Here is an interesting combination of instruments to give it a different touch in your presentation. This evocative jazz standard has its roots in earlier songs, but first introduced to a mass audience via radio by Duke Ellington and his Orchestra in 1930 and becoming an instant hit, called 'Dreamy Blues' initially, but then renamed, with lyrcis added, as 'Mood Indigo'. The Ellington band performed and recorded the song continuously throughout its 50 years, both in its original form and as a vehicle for individual soloists. The song was featured in a Broadway revue called 'Sophisticated Ladies' (running from 1981–83) earning two awards and eight nominations at the 35th Tony Awards. Mood Indigo is also featured in the films The Cotton Club (1984), The Untouchables (1987). Harlem Nights (1989) and White Men Can't Jump (1992), among others. This arrangement has been adapted from the brass band version by Edrich Siebert.
