Large Ensemble Bass Drum,Drums,Marimba,Multi-Percussion,Snare Drum,Vibraphone,Xylophone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.935386 Composed by Dan Heslink. Contemporary. Score and parts. 46 pages. Pharaoh Publications #6058011. Published by Pharaoh Publications (A0.935386). Sinfonietta composed by Dan Heslink Sinfonietta is a trio for vibraphone, marimba and percussion (xylophone, snare drum, and bass drum). Its expression is intended to be non-representational, presenting only an interesting technical construction in a suave formal organization. With the title the composer designates a single movement, with length and seriousness of expression approaching a symphonic movement. Its form approximates an expanded version of the classical sonata-allegro, dividing materials into three large sections. Beginning are the two main phrases of the principal theme, which establish patterns that are idiomatic throughout the movement. The first measure’s quartal harmonies divide into rhythms alternating the two hands, the right-hand posing a melody and the left-hand complementing it with harmony and rhythmic repetition. The phrase at measure 7 is a long-breathed melody for vibes accompanied by undulating chords in the marimba. A transition comprising highly qualitative rhythms (stated first by the marimba in m. 20.) has much identity. By measure 41, the transition has grown into a full secondary theme, one that is developed and repeated often throughout the movement. The exposition closes with a theme beginning in measure 51. It is announced by the vibes as another long-breathed melody unfolding over the active rhythm of the second theme. After a gradual dissipation, the development section starts at measure 92 with a new but related theme, heard first in the vibes. It offers a different key and an expressive melody slowly unfolding over rhythmically active harmonies. The remainder of this middle section explores nuances of the secondary and closing themes, and ultimately leads to the movement’s first climax. It eventually dissipates through a gradual reduction of density and tempo. The Reprise begins vigorously at m. 118 with statements of both the principal theme’s phrases. Then the second theme is transformed by the addition of bass drum strokes, which sets up a codetta. This section comprises a long crescendo on the new theme over a rhythmic tattoo derived from the second theme, and builds to a bold conclusion. Pedaling on the vibes is indicated with a solid bracket below the connected notes, and half pedaling with a dashed bracket. It is imperative that the percussion part be heard but not dominate. The performer is encouraged to experiment with a piccolo snare drum and 28 bass drum. Sinfonietta would serve equally well in a professional, college or advanced high school percussion recital. The composer assigns a difficulty level of medium difficult. Duration is 8:10. The composer, Dan Heslink, can be contacted at dan@dheslink.com.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 5 - SKU: A0.889416 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Luis Anjos Teixeira. Baroque,Concert,Standards. 31 pages. Luis Anjos Teixeira #3485727. Published by Luis Anjos Teixeira (A0.889416). 2018 Chamber Music Contest EntryAs a violin player this was always one of my beloved pieces and it has accompanied all my Life. The G minor Fuga is the most compact of the three fugues in the volume for violin solo (and note that in this versions they are not in fact fugues in the proper sense of the word, but rather a kind of fugue/Baroque-concerto hybrid form). It was also transcribed for lute by Bach at some later time (BWV 1000). My arrangement is based on a version of this piece for the organ made by Bach himself - BWV 539. I follow very intimately the organ version, not adding or letting out any of the original notes. As an arrangement I transposed it to H-Minor and some of the notes where made through the interpretation symbols more or less shorter in order to accentuate the polyphonic, rhythmic and natural dynamic of the piece. I also added some legatos. Crescendos, or fortes and similar indications are left out like in the original, waiting for your own interpretation. In the musical consciousness of Bach the polyphony and dialog between the voices were a projection of an ideal world for the Human Society and this should be in the first line of focus and in the mind of all the members in the group. The power of this piece comes from within its structure and relays in its polyphonic dimension. Allow yourself to focus on the Art of enhancing the beauty of this dialog, the bless of communicating with each other. Bach is Love - Love each another I really advise all performers to have a very humble and sensitive approach in the interpretation of this piece towards loudness because you will have to be listening to each other very carefully while performing. Linear time, sound and silence are the basic of dynamic expression. Dynamic will than happen naturally and without much effort when bringing the „Art of playing the silence and the Art of the „duration of the notes to a state of consciousness within the whole piece itself. Often in the old music notation the duration of the notes is longer written in the score then it should be played. Understandable because It takes a lot more time for a composer to write in detail the sound and the silence than to write only the raw length of the notes! Back in those times the performing artists were trained very well to read their raw parts and became very skilled in making their own thing out of the scores so the composers did not have to worry with so much detail like nowadays. In some scores we even find words like:-„please play this note simply as written and without embellishments! On the original score of the Fuga a sixth voice joins the group between bars sixty and sixty one and this voice can be heard very well in the sound file. This „Ghost voice is noted on the clarinet part as an extended possibility. To play it with just one clarinet is absolutely possible as well as arbitrary. Do at will some experiments and let than the group decide. In case of doubt play simply the bottom voice or let yourself get inspired with the sound file. One of my suggestions would be also to play the bottom line as long as the other one is silent, than jump to the upper voice as it comes in and go back again to your usual voice while the other voice „takes a break. This work brought me a new insight into the consciousness and the universal nature of Bach`s music. It requires high skilled and experienced artists to execute. The score was written on Finale. The sound file For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. Thank you very much f.

A much-loved setting of the Aaronic Blessing (Numbers 6: 24), this simple but highly expressive work is at once tender and profound. It was composed for a memorial service for Edward T. Chapman, the Director of Music at Highgate School, where John Rutter was a pupil. It is arranged here for solo high voice and piano (which may be adapted for performance on the organ), originally published in Oxford Solo Songs: Sacred. Also available in versions for solo low. voice and piano, SATB and organ/strings, SAB and piano, and SA and piano/organ/strings.

String Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.533700 Composed by Carson Cooman. Baroque,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 38 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038895. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533700). Concerto for Portatif Organ and Strings (2006) was commissioned by the HarvardBaroque Chamber Orchestra and its director, Robert Mealy. The work is dedicatedto organist Nancy Granert, for whom the solo part was written. The work wascommissioned in celebration of the von Clemm Chamber Organ at The MemorialChurch, Harvard University, built in 2006 by Klop Organ Builders. As with many of my works, relationships between old and new musical concepts areexplored. In this piece, musical aspects of the Baroque organ concerto tradition(and Baroque style string playing) co-exist with more contemporary musicalelements. In particular, the directness of expression found in many Baroqueconcertante works is present throughout. Musical material is shared between themovements in a motivic fashion. The title of the first movement, Bricolage, is defined as “something made or puttogether using whatever materials happen to be available.†Thus, the musicalmaterial for the movement is of varying characters; these elements are assembledtogether in ways that allow them to comment on and inform each other. Some ofthese musical elements include: a traditional “overture†texture, a Basse deTrompette texture (with an organ reed stop in the left hand) common in FrenchBaroque organ music, and the French keyboard toccata style. The second movement, Elegia, is dark and searching in tone. It begins with arageful roar before quieting down to introduce its basic musical material – a simple“lament†theme in a folk-inflected style. This material is used for further explorations, building to passionate climaxes. Finally, the opening music returns, but this timewith a whisper. The movement winds down to a sad conclusion. After the soul-searching of the second movement, the third movement, Rondeau, issprightly and energetic. The basic material is a set of Baroque and Classical-stylefigurations (with a few American gospel inflections thrown in), firmly grounded in Gmajor. After minor diversions, the original material continues to return and ends thework with unfettered joy. This item is the score only. The score and complete parts are available for sale as another item.

Phil Beaman #4897167. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844660). Maggiolata is the Italian name of an ancient Spring Festival celebrated on May 1st, hence the subtitle Song of May. Jeno Hubay, Head of the Violin Dept at the Budapest Academy of Music, wrote this piece to be as light and celebratory as a perfect spring day. My arrangement abridges and slightly simplifies this classical standard. I reduced it from 6 1/2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes by focusing on the recapitulation of the main theme but also included opening and closing cadenzas. Most of the expression markings are my own additions. I have scored it as an Instrumental Solo with an Organ accompaniment but a Piano accompaniment could be easily adapted from this. This arrangement, with an octave and a half solo range, is easy enough to be accessible for most players and its beautiful melody will have you singing and longing for spring. 3 page score, 1 page part5:00 minutes with repeatrecording is Violin and piano version

This arrangement, with an octave and a half solo range, is easy enough to be accessible for most players and its beautiful melody will have you singing and longing for spring. 3 page score, 1 page part5:00 minutes with repeatrecording is Violin and piano version

SATB choir, organ, optional brass quartet, percussion - SKU: MQ.7526-E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. 17 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #7526-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.7526-E). English.Crossing the Bar creates images of the sea, with the final voyage leading us out across the water, to see our Pilot, face to face. The musical setting endeavors to express the growth from peaceful to ecstatic moods, the tolling of the bell, the meeting of the Pilot. May there be no moaning of the bar, when I put out to see.The poetry of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) is characterized by dark, yet transcendent imagery -- the depths of the ocean, the triumph of the spirit. These poems seem well-suited to musical settings for Men's Chorus. The deep tones. The sonority of male voices (perhaps speaking for the poet) rising in song.Throughout the varied imagery of this poetry -- the depth of the sea, the dark of the night, the tumult of passion and the acceptance of death -- there speaks one, central message. Love was my lord and king..

Organ - difficult - SKU: S9.Q6228 Poème symphonique. Transcription by Jean Guillou. Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by Jean Guillou. This edition: Sheet music. Organ - Symphonic Poem - transcription. Downloadable. Duration 14' 30. Schott Music - Digital #Q6228. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6228). German • English • French.Orpheus is one of 12 symphonic poems composed by Franz Liszt between 1848 and 1858. Liszt regarded these compositions as representing a higher form of musical creation. Their genesis in what he described as a poetic idea allowed him to favour freedom of expression over the constraints of form. The score of 'Orpheus' was first performed on 16 February 1854, under the baton of the composer, as the curtain rose for a production of Gluck's opera 'Orpheus' in Weimar. It had been inspired in particular by the contemplation in the Louvre museum in Paris of an Etruscan vase despicting Orpheus as a symbol of beauty and civilisation, mitigating the brutality of the world through the power of his art. This symphonic poem was first transcribed for organ in about 1860 by Alexander Wilhelm Gottschalk (1827-1908), one of Liszt's pupils. It appears that Liszt was moved to make radical modifications to that version, in spite of which it still remains unsatisfactory. It does, however, give us the benefit of proving that Liszt, who also transcribed the work for piano duet, was not against the idea in itself of a transcription for organ. Jean Guillou's transcription is more than a simple adaptation. As far as Romantic music is concerned, he is responsible for finding appropriate equivalents to the dramatic function of instrumentation to create an atmosphere which comes as close to that of the original composition as possible, to enrich the contrapuntal texture and to contribute to the simulation of the orchestral sound.

Instrumental Duet - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1475965 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Kamada, Mikio. Baroque. 23 pages. ACORDO Sheet Music #1053543. Published by ACORDO Sheet Music (A0.1475965). Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C, BWV 564 is one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous organ works.Toccata: This part starts with an introduction that sounds like improvisation. It has fast, single-note passages like a concerto's cadenza. At measure 32, it changes to a bright, full sound like an orchestra.Adagio: This part is slow and very beautiful, with a sad feeling in a minor key.Fugue: In 6/8 time, this part is lively and bright, like a dance such as a Gigue or Passepied, even though it is not labeled as a dance. In my previous publication, Toccata & Fugue, BWV 565 for Violin and Viola, I showcased the unique beauty of string instruments. Similarly, in this piece, the beautiful melody of the Adagio fits perfectly with the Violin and Viola, as if it were originally composed for them. The dance-like energy of the Fugue is also easier to express with string instruments. When two people perform this piece, it creates an interesting dialogue, almost like a conversation. The introduction of the Toccata reflects this, inspired by my students who would chat enthusiastically before starting their practice. Their conversation in the music lasts for 31 measures without any chords together. The short unison phrase in measure 13 symbolizes their agreement to start playing together. After that, their conversation continues, with triplets and important motifs of this movement appearing, increasing the expectation for the ensemble to begin. From measure 32, the real ensemble playing begins. Although we don't know what Bach imagined when he wrote this introduction, I now hear it as a conversation, even when listening to the original organ version. In the Adagio viola part, the continuo notes are marked in black, and the notes that create harmony are marked in blue. Players who can control the volume balance of double stops should balance it so that the continuo flows naturally. Players who are not skilled in playing double stops, it might be better to omit the blue notes in difficult sections. If omitted, the section might feel empty, but with careful playing before and after, it could still sound natural.
