The hymn tune "Dix" is normally associated with the Epiphany text "As With Gladness Men of Old", but also commonly with "For the Beauty of the Earth". This fanfare postlude was composed in 2021 as a festive work for Epiphany Sunday. It was composed on a two manual instrument, and will give you the chance to feature a nice trumpet stop for the hymn tune, as well as full organ sounds for the fanfare theme!

Howard (A0.1399319). 'Postlude in Glory' was specifically written for John Hosking and the first Blackburn Cathedral Composition Competition in 2023. The brief was to compose a Postlude to be played at the end of the Easter Day service, and to use a well known Easter melody. The piece begins with an introduction based on piling fourths, around the opening three notes of the ensuing theme upon which the work is based: 'Melchoir Vulpius' (1609), otherwise known as the hymn tune 'The Strife is O'er'. There follows a set of variations on this theme; initially featuring an Alberti bass, then a variant with the melody in canon in the pedals, then followed by a tonic minor key version, and then a 'scherzando' variation using 5/8 metre in the subdominant. After a return of the introductory build-up, a final 'brillante' version of the theme is stated, complete with fanfares, followed by a victorious coda. Soldier's Fanfare is an energetic organ fanfare made up of triads, scales, and arpeggios in very basic form. It is in the Key of C with an occasional F# accidental. Pedaling is mostly on the chord root and usually changes just once per bar, and there is no pedaling at all during the middle Swell section. In other words, this is a very accessible piece for any organist, yet sounds majestic and professional; perfect for your organ prelude repertoire that can be pulled out at the last minute. This piece is also excellent for studying different articulations, contrasting between detached, staccato, and slurred. 2 page score, 1:30 minutes This piece is also in the booklet 3 Pieces for Beginning Organist which contains a prelude, offertory, and postlude; also available on this site.

This piece, written in C major with a modulation to E Flat Major was a lot of energy. It loves strong voices, including fiery reeds, both in the manual and in the pedal. Hoewever, it doesnt loose it's strenght when played with a more mellow registration. If carefully played, it can even be performed on a one manual organ with pedals.

Intended for the Beginning Organist, all pieces are written in Classical style, all are in Rounded Binary form (ABA), all are in the Key of C, all have very limited pedal use. In other words, these pieces are perfect to have in your repertoire when you need something to pull out at the last minute. Prelude - Soldier's Fanfare is an energetic organ fanfare made up of triads, scales, and arpeggios in very basic form. Pedaling is mostly on the chord root and usually changes just once per bar, and there is no pedaling at all during the middle Swell section. 2 pages, 1:30 minutes Offertory - Music Box Minuet is a delightful Organ Solo for manuals/hands (no pedal part). Both hands are in the Treble Clef. The RH has the melody of mostly quarter notes (crotchets) played on a Flute stop. The LH has mostly 2 note chords, one chord per bar, played on Strings. The A Theme is in 4/4 and the B Theme in 3/4. Each Theme is repeated. 1 page, 1 minute Postlude - Classical Euphoria is an Organ Solo of pure fun. Euphoria--a temporary feeling of excessive happiness and intense joy. That certainly describes this piece of music. This piece puts a smile on my face every time. And it is definitely classical. It is in the Key of C with broken triads and is in Rounded Binary form. The B theme is minor but still happy and energetic. The complete song is Intro-AABBAA-Coda. An organ arrangement of the Provençal tune used with the Easter text Now Let the Heavens Be Joyful. Suitable for worship or concert use during the Easter season. May function as prelude, postlude, hymn introduction or hymn accompaniment. Written on three staves with pedal; suitable for a 2-manual organ.The arrangement begins with an introduction based on tune motives, then three continuous variations of the tune follow, with an ending based on the refrain. The arrangement employs abundant harmonic variety and builds in intensity and texture from one variation to the next. In the first variation the melody is played in the right hand with left hand counterpoint and pedal accompaniment. In the second variation the melody is played in the left hand with fanfare motives in the right hand, and pedal is added on the refrain. The third variation employs full organ and thick chordal texture. The refrain is repeated at a slower tempo and earlier fanfare motives reappear to end the piece.

It is fresh because the arranger has chosen not to use the 19th century harmonisation that we are all so familiar with (by Robert Lucas de Pearsall). Instead they have based this new arrangement on the harmonies of the great Renaissance composer, Michael Praetorius, from the first decade of the 17th century. An optional fanfare and postlude, based on other works of Praetorius, are included to set the context of the Renaissance period. The first verse is pure Praetorius, but then the arranger takes us in different and interesting directions while remaining completely faithful to the beautiful melody. There are three differently arranged verses. Duration: 2 minutes, 30 seconds
