Sweelinck: Echo Fantasia No. 2 for String Quartet - Score Only

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1296215 Composed…

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1296215 Composed by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck was. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Renaissance. 7 pages. Jmsgu3 #886460. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1296215). Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck was a Dutch organist and composer who lived from April 1562 to October 16, 1621. He was born and died in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Sweelinck's first published works date from around 1592-94, and he composed a variety of music, including chansons and keyboard music. He was known for his keyboard playing and was a teacher to German composers Samuel Scheidt and Heinrich Scheidemann.  Sweelinck's Echo Fantasias are significant for several reasons:Innovative composition: Echo Fantasias were a unique form of composition during Sweelinck's time, blending elements of traditional fantasias with passages dedicated to echo effects. This experimental approach showcased Sweelinck's creativity and willingness to push the boundaries of musical expression. Emphasis on the moment: Unlike Sweelinck's larger fantasias, the construction of Echo Fantasias was less strict, focusing more on the immediate musical experience rather than the overall design. This emphasis on the moment allowed for greater freedom and spontaneity in the performance of these pieces. Stylistic range: Echo Fantasias encompassed a wide range of styles, juxtaposing fantasia-like elements with passages dedicated to echo effects. This stylistic diversity added depth and complexity to Sweelinck's compositions, making them engaging and intriguing for both performers and listeners.

Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Renaissance. 31 pages. Jmsgu3 #887551. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1297509).

Classical,Contemporary,Holiday,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 8 pages. RayThompsonMusic #3134943. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553593). Beethoven's Piano Sonata No.14 in C# minor (Sonata quasi una Fantasia) Op.27. No.2, Mvt.1 also known as the Moonlight Sonata is probably the best known of his compositions.Unlike other arrangements you will find on this site (and other sites) I have taken the unusual step of removing a large proportion of the triplet accompaniment figure, which is found in the original piano composition.Other arrangers for brass quintet tend give this figure, as a rule, to the horn or trombone who play the triplets all the way through the piece.I have tried to arrange it as though it had been originally written for the brass  quintet. My arrangement retains some of the triplets (the rising arpeggios) and sometimes uses the triplets on one note to add dramatic effect. The net result is more of a chorale, but I feel it does retain the forward movement from the original with the use of moving staccato crotchets (quarter notes) I have transposed this arrangement into D minor from the original C sharp minor.

The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C♯ minor Quasi una fantasia, Op. 27, No. 2, popularly known as the Moonlight Sonata, is a piano sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven. It was completed in 1801 and dedicated in 1802 to his pupil, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi. The piece is one of Beethoven's most popular compositions for the piano, and it was a popular favorite even in his own day. Beethoven wrote the Moonlight Sonata in his early thirties, after he had finished with some commissioned work; there is no evidence that he was commissioned to write this sonata. Here's your opportunity to communicate how subtle brass can present quiet piano music with a powerful proposition. Thank you, Jerry Lanning for your reduction of this piece for Trumpet and Piano.

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552515). Duetto Op. 2 No. 2 - I. Allegro assai II. Andantino III. Presto Johann Joachim Quantz, a German flutist and composer, occupies an intermediate position between the Baroque and Classical periods. His Sei Duetti, op. 2, composed in 1759, is an excellent example of his position between the two eras, showcasing elegance, lightness, and tenderness. They illustrate Quantz's craftsmanship and influence on transitioning from the Baroque to the Classical style. Thus, Quantz's music reflects an essential link in the evolution of musical styles from the Baroque to the Classical era. Here are the most essential facts to know about his music:Compositions: Quantz composed about 300 concerti and 200 other flute pieces for Frederick the Great. His works are for the transverse flute, including sonatas, concertos, trio sonatas, quartets, duets, trios, and unaccompanied caprices and fantasias for the flute.Treatise on Flute Playing: His treatise Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen (1752) is a valuable source of information on ornamentation and performance practices of the 18th century.Innovations in Flute Design: Quantz made significant contributions to the development of the flute. He added a second key to the flute and invented the sliding end used to tune the instrument. He also experimented with different woods and configurations to improve the instrument's sound and versatility.Teaching and Influence: Quantz was a renowned flute teacher who significantly influenced the development of flute playing and composition during the 18th century. In summary, Johann Joachim Quantz was a prolific composer, an influential flute teacher, and a key figure in the evolution of the flute and its music during the Baroque period.
