This is a song composed for a poem of the Chinese classic style called as Xin Yuan Cun (The Spring Comes to a Delightful Garden) - Snow, written by Mao Zedong in February of 1936. But, it was not published until Mao went to Chongqing in 1945 to hold a peace talk with Jiang Jieshi (Chiang Kai-shek). It was said that the poem was sent to Mr. Liu Ya-zi as a gift. Mao and Jiang had been deadly enemies in their whole lives. Mao defeated Jiang the finally in 1949 and founded the People's Republic of China. Translated in English by Johnson K. Gao in 2008 at 71 years of age in DallasTexas, USA. The translator had not been born when the poem was written. Gao had composed a song for that Chinese poem. The sound track was selected in a CD called as For Love, For Snow and For Echo http://cdbaby.com/cd/johnsongao2 and music sheet was collected in Gao’s Music for Olympic Games http://www.lulu.com/content/2102738 . Chick Corea died at the age of 69 on February 9, 2021. I have been a huge fan of his music and piano playing since I heard the album Now He Sings, Now He Sobs (1968). Assisted by Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes, Chick was in absolutely rare form on that seminal recording!!! As a tribute to him and a in memoriam to his musicianship, I wrote these movements for solo piano inspired by his compositions in the album Children's Songs (1984). Corea's Children's Songs is a suite of twenty solo piano pieces, each lasting between 1 to 2 minutes. These are truly little gems of composition in miniature, like the Chopin Preludes. But every time I hear them I always felt that these nice little pieces, at least to my ears, always came up short. A lot of them seem to end in mid-air. In my humble opinion, they needed development. But that is of course coming from the mouth of a classical composer, me. LOL!!! Nevertheless, in this tribute, I have taken some ideas from the original Corea songs and reinvented them in my own fashion. You will detect a thing or two from Chick, but mostly it's TOL music. Since my songs get development, the entire suite consists of ten movements, rather than Corea's twenty. Enjoy!!! Children's Song No. 1 ... Moderato Children's Song No. 2 ... The Round Day and Magdalene’s Song were completed in Brooklyn on June 11, 2009, the music having been originally sketched-out on Christmas Day and Boxing Day 2008, at Putnam Valley, New York. In the first song, The Round Day, the singer hears the voice of the Blessed Virgin Mary as she sings to the glory of God throughout the day. The text was written on June 7, 2008. In The Shepherd Lad, the Spanish mystic Saint John of the Cross describes a shepherd lad’s (Jesus’s) love for a shepherdess (the Church) and how another (the Devil) tempted his love away. Heartbroken, the shepherd climbed a tree, “And threw wide his arms in sweetest charity, Since by His Shepherdess He was forsaken.†The original Spanish text was translated and adapted into Villanelle form by the composer in early December 2004. The text of Magdalene’s Song describes the feelings of a mystic, or a devotee of Jesus, inspired by the fresh beauty, grace and power of the Lord of creation. The main body of the text is given to a soprano solo. The text was written on April 27, 2008. These sacred songs were conceived as being performed either as a set or individually. The composer had secular ensembles in mind, such as college or concert choruses, but these songs may, of course, also be performed in a liturgical setting. The accompanying flute provides introductions, interludes and codas throughout the set and, on a few occasions, plays with the voices. The piano part is ad lib. (optional).

Not only that the Great Smoky Mountain, which was clearly visible on the sunny day, was completely blocked by the fog, the neighbors' brick houses and flowers are also very hazy. But, the cricket's sound could be heard clearly. I wrote the Autumn fog in twenty eight Chinese characters. Twenty-three years later, when I was seventy-seven years old, I found the poem in the old manuscript and scanned it into an electronic version. I used two days to compose a song for the poem.
