The beauty is that the handbells/chimes play only chordal accompaniment to a flute or piano melody. There is so much flexibility in this piece. Our choir performed it with handchimes and flute. You can use any C instrument for the melody, even piano. I've also included a full piano accompaniment. The audio sample is a computer-generated handbell and piano combo. This piece will give your beginners confidence to tackle harder music and give them a feeling of pride to be able to participate in worship in such a musical way. Four pages total (p.1 = handbells/chimes; p.2 = flute or C instrument melody; pp. 3-4 = piano accompaniment and melody). Key of C, no key changes. Tempo is set by director dependent upon the ability of your players. Handbell part is for beginning players. Flute part is early intermediate. Piano part is early intermediate. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1135655). This is a shortened version of the song to fit nicely on two pages (I needed a shorter version for the circumstances I'm under). The melody and lyrics are like the original as far as I can tell, but I did make changes to the harmony. Usually these changes to the harmony are to enhance the word painting, or to have it be more idiomatic to guitar. A version like this is ideal for someone who wants to play a very fancy version of the song on solo guitar, though adding vocals in should still be fairly easy. I personally sing a lot better if I can play the melody first on guitar because then I know exactly what I'm doing. Versions like these can really be as simple or as complex as you want, if you want something simple, just play the chord diagrams and sing!1. Guitar Arrangement Lead Sheet Style2. Guitar Tab 3. Chord Charts 4. Less stereotypical chords 5. Fingerings and letter names added to aid in sight-reading 6. Voice leading considerations 7. Making the music idiomatic for guitarTips:1. Notes with the stem direction going down are background harmonies that should be played quietly. This hidden meaning tends to only happen with polyphonic instruments such as piano and guitar. You'll eventually notice this anyways because there is no lyric underneath the note.1. Slurs are notated to the make the music easier and better sounding for guitar not vocals, though of course it often mimicks slurs similiar to a vocalist.2. Fmaj7(#11) is not in the original and is a key change since it includes an F and not an F#.3. Sometimes it can look like the melody does not contain a key change, but then when you anaylze the letter names of the chords, you will find that there is indeed key changes in the chords. The Beatles is a good example of a band that does this often.4. E minor and G major chords technically only need 2 or 3 notes. This is one simple but effective strategy to have less cliche chords.5. The F(#5)(#11) chord in the second to last measure could probably be just an F major chord.6. The E natural in measure 42 could be an Eb if the harmony is too avant-garde for you. Made sense to me because of word painting and I wanted a keyless and dreamy feeling for the end. 7. G/B chords are arguably nicer than a full G chord, though of course the decision is ultimately up to. It is better because the chord is imperfect, it causes the audience to not clap too soon. I also only strum the chord up to where the vocal melody is happening, that way the main melody is always in the spot light, and I find songs are easier to sing this way.

Teatro do Incêndio. Emblematic work by Fauzi Arap (1938-2013), written over 40 years ago, had its only staging in 1976. The play portrays the implosion of a theater group after its members crossed all boundaries between art and life. I wrote this soundtrack totally immersed in the work of Canadian cellist Julia Kent and in the essays that accompany the creation of each scene. The grandeur of Fauzi's text required a soundtrack that gave the audience the feeling of participating in the story, and various instrumentations were used. She sings, I'm the only one who knows what I want to be. She realizes that she doesn't need to change herself to please others. She is perfect the way she is.The song ends with the protagonist declaring that she is going to be the girl she wants to be. She sings, I'm gonna be the girl I wanna be, no matter what they say. She is determined to be herself, no matter what others think.

The tune itself is generic, an aggregate of hundreds of others, but the words are interesting. It sounds like a comforting love song. I didn't realise at the time how sinister it is. The final piece in the three-part song cycle, the young girl has grown up and has taken on the role of a woman. The piece itself is very slow moving, as the woman’s life has significantly slowed down, she’s no longer the young girl filled with hope, she knows what her duty is. The piano itself is always rising, sometimes in major thirds but then followed by clunky seconds and thirds. With a feeling of rush but also as if the whole piece is about to end and resolve, yet it continues in this cycle. Still, there’s reward in her work, a woman gets to see her child grow, and their dreams become her own. As any woman can tell you, there is a reward to being a good mother, wife, and woman. But it is only one that a woman can recognize.

The main theme is inspired by the introduction of the piece. Delicate and child-like. The ostinato in the beginning of the piece that double reeds have displays the feeling of a “child-like†waltz. The pattern is in 3 but it should be played as if it is in 6/8, with emphasis on beats 1 and 3. There should be weight to the sound but it should not be heavy. Sometimes in life, (as both teens and adults) we tend to get caught up in stress or worries and we forget to take a break, relax and destress a little. This piece reminds us to go back to our childlike roots. As the theme in Section A expands, it takes a turn in Section B where the tempo picks up. (Players are encouraged to have as much fun as they can with this part.) At and after the exposed bassoon part at m.50, in the words of my old high school band director, “Let it rip potato chip!†(Meaning give it all you’ve got and have fun). Brass are encouraged to play the dynamics as written in this section but listen to each other. Section C is a bridge to the 7/8 in Section D. Section D, reintroduces the theme in the form of a trumpet solo while brass and some of the woodwinds have the ostinato. Be careful euphonium & tuba because you’re missing a beat on purpose! Section E is the “Medley†of all the parts that were previously played with only tuba playing in the relative minor so it sticks out at the bottom of the ensemble. This is symbolic of the piece itself, showing that the pressures of life can be overcome by keeping a good attitude and persevering through those tough times that you encounter. Section F is another “bridge†beginning with the flute solo reiterating the theme one last time before the “descent and climb†(starting at m.137) to the final destination: Section G. Section G should be played like an overture. Full and with joy and a “coming alive-ness†to it therefore bringing life to the once dead emotions that once were. The ending with the oboe/bassoon duet should be played as quietly as possible & as in tune as possible.

"Holy Moly Wow Wow Wow?

About this song:
Sometimes, I use an exciting sound and words when my students have a good practice. I?d say ?Holy, Moly, you are very good? ?Proud of you?. One day, while I was teaching, One thought is flashing through my mind. And I think maybe it is a good topic to write a song about the word ?Holy, Moly?
In this song, on the first four measures, I use the notes following the syllable of the word ?Holy Moly wow wow wow?. Therefore, there are seven notes in every two measures. Another thing is that I feel it is a ?wonder? or ?marvel? words. I used 2nd interval to create that ?wonder? or ?marvel? sound on measure 5 to 6 (major 2nd). The 2nd interval movement also is appeared in the measure 1 to 4. On measures 36 and 37 (minor 2nd), hold the notes down with pedal, you will hear a long ?WOW? sound in the end.
When playing this song, please play andante. The andante (walking speed) with and the ?2nd interval? movement will create a feeling of
wonder and marvel. Please do not play fast at all. It is going to take away the ?WOW and WOW? feeling.
This is a great song for your teen students.
