Dolor (Parting's Sorrow) is an early intermediate piece, a little over 3 minutes long, that is written for piano solo. In it's simplicity, it is the melody that reawakened my drive to compose after years of silence. So it is part of a piano solo album called Reawakening. Pay attention to the rise and fall (swell) in each slur. The sustain pedal is used for each entire bar, but it is important to lift and press after the first note is played in each bar. It should be played gently, even in the forte sections, and expressively. .

The first sign that things were amiss was the early return of the dog, which arrived home wet and exhausted. Despite extensive searches only the body of the son has to date been found. The boat was located and raised. The cause of the tragedy is still a mystery. The title is from a poem of William Blake.

Danceuphoria is the opening piece, an uneven, powerful dance which immediately creates an uplifting mood. Melodic Sorrow is a piece dedicated to the memory of my father, Konstantinos Nousis. It's one of the first pieces I wrote for guitar as a teenager. Here you can read an evolved version of that first piece which keeps the simplicity of the primary inspiration.Lifeness is an ode to life piece full of rich colors, melodies and harmonies. Published by Daniel Carr (A0.918710). The Sonata for Flute and Piano is the longest and most complex work I have composed for Flute and Piano. My goal for this piece was to push myself as a composer, and to push both flautist and pianist to their absolute limits – both musically and technically. The flute is capable of much more than just being pretty – and in this work it depicts violence, drama, joy, sorrow and heroism. Extended techniques are used throughout the sonata (aire, percussive tonguing, pitch bends, harmonics and flutter tonguing) but always within a tonal framework. The first movement starts out peacefully, as if beginning a legend, with a folk-like and serene melody. The second and third themes are more percussive and rhythmical – the flute and piano engaging in a violent, interlaced dance in a section marked Allegro Swordfight. In the recapitulation, the first theme reappears in much more dramatic form. The second movement begins with a forceful march before a darker and more cabalistic middle section emerges. The movement builds to a formidable climax in the final measures. The third movement begins simply and quietly, offering a respite from the energy of the first two movements, and quoting themes from both of them. It then leads attacca (without pause) into the final movement, which surges forward relentlessly before a lyrical section provides the flute an opportunity to soar above wave-like arpeggios in the piano. The piece ends on an ethereal note, with flute and piano hovering near silence in their upper ranges.

Published by Greg Woodward (A0.1460359). My third string quartet is a playful and melodic work, encompassing a wide range of styles and moods with a high degree of thematic unity. The joyful, dance-like character of the opening eventually disintegrates into a moment of sorrow, before a pensive, introspective section with elements of Herrmann and Shostakovich. A grand crescendo leads to a huge A major chord (a reference to the Beatles' A Day In The Life) that gradually becomes more dissonant as it progresses underneath a constant high A pedal point in the first violin. A chant-like section featuring open fifths follows, before a driving, angular section in 5/4. This recurs a few times interspersed with some musical episodes before ushering in a majestic transformation of the earlier chant-like section. After this runs its course and dies out, a final section revisits the dance-like energy of the first section which borrows thematic material from all through the piece before speeding into a final jazzy major sixth pizzacato chord.This would make a good concert piece.Visit my YouTube page for more performances, arrangements and compositions.
