Oboe and piano - intermediate to advanced - SKU: S9.Q7114 Composed by Kurt Hessenberg. This edition: Sheet music. Oboe Library. Das 1958 entstandene Capriccio ist ein spielfreudiges und dankbares Stück - in einem neoklassizistischen, von erweiterter Tonalität geprägten Stil. Eine willkommene Erweiterung des Oboen-Repertoire. Downloadable. Op. 71/2. Duration 4 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q7114. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7114). Even though the Frankfurt composer Kurt Hessenberg (1908-1994) made a lasting impression, especially by his sacred choral music - his motet 'O Herr, mache mich zum Werkzeug deines Friedens' forms part of the repertoire of every good choir - his career as a composer began with piano, chamber and orchestral music. All his life Hessenberg remained faithful to these genres. Between 1958 and 1963 he wrote five miniatures which he put together into Opus 71 and in which he let the five instruments of a wind quintet have their 'say' separately and with piano accompaniment: flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. Created in 1958, 'Capriccio' Op. 71 No. 2 is dedicated to the oboe. It is an enjoyable and rewarding piece in a neoclassical style characterized by an extended tonality. This 'Capriccio' gives the oboist the possibility to play in an effective virtuoso, yet cantabile way and, in addition, uses piano accompaniment in a rewarding manner - a welcome addition to the oboe repertoire.

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 5 - SKU: A0.549254 Composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 15 pages. Jmsgu3 #3473685. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549254). Flight of the Bumblebee Flight of the Bumblebee is, to be sure, an orchestral interlude composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Of course, Korsakov intended to portray a bumblebee's chaotic flying pattern musically. Nowadays, this piece is one of the comparatively more famous classical works because it frequently appears occasionally in popular culture. The piece appears notably in the opera at the close of Act III, Tableau 1. This is when the magic Swan-Bird changes the Prince (the son of the Tsar) into a bee so he can fly away to visit his father. Interestingly, at this point in the drama, his father, in effect, does not know that he is alive. Korsakov Background Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844 –1908) was a uniquely famous composer from Russia. He was likewise a member of an infamous assembly of composers called The Five. Korsakov was furthermore an expert in orchestration. His correspondingly most famous orchestral compositions- Capriccio Espagnol, the Russian Easter Festival Overture, and the Scheherazade suite- are essential monuments of the standard music repertoire. Also comparatively very important are his suites and excerpts from his 15 operas. Korsakov used Russian folklore and fairy tales, such as Scheherazade, in his music. Nationalistic Style Like fellow outspoken composer Balakirev, Korsakov believed in creating a nationalistic, Russia-centric style of classical music. The new style was called Orientalism. It similarly relied on native Russian materials, exotic scales, and experimental harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic procedures. This practice, conversely, ran counter to the developments in Western musical culture. Musical Developments Nevertheless, Korsakov developed an appreciation of Western musical techniques after he became a professor of musical composition, harmony, and orchestration at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1871. Moreover, he undertook a rigorous three-year program of self-education. He mastered Western methods, incorporating them with the influences of Mikhail Glinka and other members of The Five. His techniques of composition and orchestration were additionally enriched by his exposure to the works of Richard Wagner. Naval Service Korsakov combined his music career accordingly with a career in the Russian military. He was in the first place an officer in the Russian Navy. In due time, he was appointed a civilian Inspector of Naval Bands. As a result, Korsakov expanded his knowledge of woodwind and brass playing, which heightened his orchestration capabilities. Legacy In due time, Korsakov contributed a significant number of Russian nationalist works. He also prepared, occasionally, compositions by The Five for presentation. This brought their works straightaway into the active classical repertoire as well. He also shaped an entire generation of younger composers as a music educator. Therefore, music historians consider Korsakov the foremost engineer of what the public considers the Russian composition style. He served as a transitional figure between The Five and the classically trained composers who became the norm over time. In addition to the Russians, he influenced non-Russian composers such as Ravel, Debussy, Dukas, and Respighi. Â

Cello,Piano - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1487803 Composed by Pietro Antonio Locatelli. Arranged by David Starkweather. Classical. Score and part. 31 pages. Artaria Editions #1064741. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1487803). Three movements from these two sonatas became part of the cello literature due to an arrangement by Alfredo Piatti(1822-1901). Piatti's arrangement, while extending the literature for cello, took considerable liberty with the material. The three movements of the Locatelli-Piatti sonata are originally movements from the two Locatelli violin sonatas arranged in this edition for cello and continuo. Piatti's arrangement used the second and third movements of the Sonata in D Major, Op. 6 No. 6 , and the first movement of the Sonata in D Minor, Op. 6 No. 12. Pietro Antonio Locatelli (1695-1764) was an Italian composer and violinist who moved to Amsterdam in 1729. He was a virtuoso violinist, and his compositions are all concertos, sonatas and violin caprices. The twelve violin sonatas of Opus 6,1 published in Amsterdam in 1737, are considered to be among Locatelli's best works. The sonatas of Opus 6 generally follow the pattern found in No.6: a three movement scheme with a slow first movement, a fast middle movement, and concluding with a third movement set of variations, often on a minuet theme. No. 12 is a surprise, having five movements the last of which is a Capriccio, a predominantly solo movement subtitled Prova del intonatione. David Starkweather.

Piano - SKU: S9.Q11716 For Piano. Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q11716. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11716). Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) is one of the best-known German organ composers of the 20th century. His late piano work Fünf Charaktere (1974) is based less on contrapuntal and neo-classical composition techniques (like the two early piano sonatas) but rather on the tonal possibilities of the piano. The five movements which live on the changes of different tempos and emotions bear titles that refer to the mood and the character of the music: Capriccio – Legende – Scherzando – Elegie – Burleske. Thus, the pieces are not far away from being Romantic character pieces. Fünf Charaktere is published as printed edition for the first time, based on the autograph left in the composer's estate.

String Quartet - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download By Billie Eilish Feat. Khalid. Arranged by Helen Marple-Horvat. Score, Set of Parts. 16 pages. Published by Helen Marple-Horvat
?Lovely? by Billie Eilish and Khalid was released in April 2018. Written and produced by Finneas O?Connel, brother of Billie Eilish, it was used as the soundtrack to Season Two of ?13 Reasons Why? - a drama on Netflix. The song went Platinum in New Zealand and USA, and reached the top five in the New Zealand and Australian Charts.
I think that it lends itself beautifully to a String Quartet Arrangement and very much enjoyed working on it. At the moment I have only a computer version of the Score but will be recording it with Capriccio Quartet once lockdown restrictions are at an end.
Feel free to change the bowing, especially in the eight-quaver accompaniment bars. These do need to be heard, but very much as a background texture. I envisaged the song as played with a great deal of delicacy and subtlety, though this is hard to achieve with Sibelius software. In this arrangement the cello has less to do than usual, but there are some sudden shifts of position and that deep presence is vital to the overall effectiveness of the song. The double stopping usually includes one open string.
I experimented for a long time with different octaves for the violin to play at Letters C and E. You may like to change the score at this point if it feels easier, or just prefer one or the other. I opted for the high octave at times because the unison with the viola two octaves below seemed to have a lot of emotional power. However one octave apart also sounds good so younger players could easily tackle this song.
My Youtube Channel has many of my arrangements for String Quartet, most recorded by Capriccio Quartet, and all but two available as Sheet Music Plus products. Please visit me there :- Helen Marple-Horvat, Songwriter, Arranger, Composer.
