String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.859959 Composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Arranged by Steven Kruse, Penny Thompson Kruse. 20th Century,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and parts. 162 pages. String Play for All #6189581. Published by String Play for All (A0.859959). Expose your students to the lush melodies, chromaticism, and technical challenges of Sergei Rachmaninoff. His second symphony is one of his most beloved works, and the second movement contains all these wonderful elements listed above. The parts contain chromaticism, long bows, and spiccato passages. The range of the first violin extends to fourth position while the second violin and viola do not go beyond third position. The chromatic fingerings, rhythm, and bow control make this a challenging arrangement, but well worth the effort. The piece is five minutes in length.

Thomas Oboe Lee #431379. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869295). Instrumentation: 3222-4231-timp-2perc-hp-chorus-strings Program note:It has been a wonderful two years of thinking, learning and working on my Continental Harmony Project with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. It is a rare occasion that a composer in the 21st century would receive a commission to write a musical work of such scale: a 40-minute piece for symphony orchestra, 200-plus chorus and a ballet company. At the Bangor Public Library I found some wonderful evocative 19th century texts for the chorus about the city of Bangor and its environs: the Penobscot River, Mt. Ktaadn, the logging industry, the native American culture, etc. At times I felt overwhelmed, but most of the times I was exuberant and quite inspired by the music that came forth in the process. The premiere is less than a month away, and I am looking forward to it. Susan Jonason, Executive Director of the Bangor Symphony, has made the occasion a very public one: a free concert on a Saturday evening! I hope the audience will go home humming the tunes from the work as they walk into the crisp, cool Bangor night.Formally the work is in five movements. The first, third and fifth movements are choral, and the two in between are orchestral. In the premiere, the Robinson Ballet will dance in the orchestral movements. The first movement is about the Penobscot River from winter to spring. The melting of the ice is a harbinger of things to come: warmer weather, for instance; but it has also contributed to a lot of flooding in the city of Bangor and its surroundings. The second movement is a waltz, a grand 19th century ballroom waltz for the ladies of the rich lumber barons. They come to the ball showing off their latest hats and gowns from London, Paris and Milan. The third movement is about the woods and the people who work in them. Thoreau’s text about Mt. Ktaadn is full of awesome thoughts about how nature is beautiful, yet unkind to man. It is followed by a J.G. Whittier lyric entitled The Logger’s Boast. The original song had twenty stanzas to it. I whittled it down to five. I don’t know what the original song sounded like, so I made up my own version of a lumberjack’s drinking song. The fourth movement is a wild, drunken polka. After a long week of working in the woods the lumbermen come back to the city and spend all their earnings on booze, women and gambling. And they dance the night away …The last movement begins with a funeral march for Joe Attien, a native American who was Thoreau’s guide when he came up here in the 1900’s. The work ends with a rousing march, a centennial hymn to the city of Bangor. God bless our city Bangor, now! On this its birthday morn …NB: The two ballet movements, II. La Valse and IV. Drunken Polka, are optional.

Wind band - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6309 Für großes Blasorchester. Composed by Bertold Hummel. This edition: score. Schott Harmony Series. Downloadable, Score. Op. 67. Duration 25 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6309. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6309). Best playability and musical spirit - this is what characterizes the music of Bertold Hummel who died in 2002, and why his music must be part of the repertoire of any amateur and semi-professional orchestra. The Oregon Symphony occupies a special position in his oeuvre: it was written by Hummel for the typically American symphonic wind bands, requiring almost 100 musicians, including 15 clarinets in three groups of five alone, as well as four piccolos and six flutes, bass clarinet, bassoons, saxophones, trumpets, horns, tubas and the typically American sousaphone, and five percussionists. The work consists of four movements; in the rousing finale, Hummel mixes jazz motifs with popular themes and even weaves the anthem of the State of Oregon in the final music. For getting better acquainted with this music, the first movement is also separately available ('Symphonische Ouvertüre', SHS 1001).Picc. · 2 · 2 · Klar. in Es · 3 · Bassklar. in B · 2 Altsax. in Es · Tenorsax. in B · Baritonsax. in Es · 2 - 4 · 3 (Korn.) · 3 · Tenorhr. in B (Bar.) · 2 - P. Large Ensemble Choir - Digital Download SKU: A0.948805 Composed by An-lun Huang. Contemporary,World. Score and parts. 515 pages. DoReMi Edition #6080281. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.948805). SCORE @ Amazon ï¼?https://amzn.to/34qCMdz The Symphonic Concert No.2, is Huangâ??s second serial symphonic work in a large form. ----- The first part, Op.47a, is The Symphonic Overture No. 2, the second part, Op.47b, is the Violin Concerto in B in three movements. They are all published by Amazon. And the third part, Op.47c, is this Symphony in A flat major 'Phoenix' in 5 movements [62 minutes] The first two parts of the Symphonic Concert No.2 were premiered in Beijing by the China Youth Symphony Orchestra in 1997. However, the composing of the third part has been delayed. The reason is the author's Chinese heart: for thousands of years, the word deep disaster has been following this nation, but, however, the Chinese finally rise in the east of the world from the deadly dark. How can the composer present this symphony in the most appropriate form, and bring blessings to the world? Until the idea of Phoenix sigh inspired the author's rolling music. As a result, the structure of the entire symphony is: a total of five movements, the order is: 1.-ESSENCE ç²¾ Andante con molto 2.-SPIRIT æ°? Allegro assai 3.-DIVINITY ç¥? Larghetto 4.-PEACE å?? Vivo 5.-REVIVAL è?¾é£? Allegro assai con brio The fifth movement of this symphony, Revival, is the end of the entire Symphonic Concert No. 2. Its Phoenixâ??s Flame of Fire symbolizes the composer's powerful belief in the whole composition: Defeat death to obtain the eternal life. This point has a distinct manifestation in this final movement: from the beginning of the world turmoil to the evolution of the huge contrast of the brilliant chorus of the Phoenix; from the disaster making the Phoenix smashes into the fire of hell from the high heaven; its shocking description of self-immolation to the sound of the resurrection and the vitality of the folk instruments which simulate the voice of life from afar; and from the brilliant fire of the phoenix soars to the sky with roar of the organ at the end. The themes of all of the previous music are also interrelated. All of the players join the forces to create the powerful music that The Chinese symphony has never been sounded like this before, and it is all about achieving a brilliant future, the critic said in Peopleâ??s Music, the major music magazine in China, 2009.

Program note: My love affair with the city of Rome dates back to the year 1986-87 when I spent just under eleven months at the American Academy in Rome on a Rome Prize Fellowship. During that Fellowship year I was very much inspired by the beauty and culture of the Eternal City, which resulted in a number of works that continue to resonate with me: Twenty-nine Fireflies Book II for solo piano; Concertino for trumpet, timpani and strings; Apples … six dreams by Richard Kenney; String Quartet No 5 … Four Birthdays; and Chôrinhos … opus 38. Since 1997 my wife, Kristin Beckwith, and I have returned to the American Academy in Rome almost every year. I would compose in the morning and then my wife and I would go to our usual haunt at Bar G. for cappuccini and cornetti. And then we’d go to the local bakery and street markets and buy stuff for lunch. In the afternoon we would wander into the city to go shopping and sight-seeing. In the evenings we would dine at one of our favorite local trattorias. Life could not be better in Rome. Musically speaking, several important works in my portfolio had their beginnings during these sojourns at the Academy , among them Yo Picasso, Flauta Carioca, Mass for the Holy Year 2000, Symphony No. 5 … Utopia Parkway, Twenty-nine Fireflies Books IV & V, and Piano Concerto … Mozartiana. Just before the 2008 recession, clarinetist extraordinaire Jonathan Cohler asked me to write a symphony for the inaugural concert of a new orchestra he was planning to create. I came up with Symphony No. 7 … Roman Holidays, my give back to the city of Rome – a compendium of favorite places that continue to live in my thoughts and musings. Although the work is heard in four movements, it is actually divided into seven sections, as in the seven hills of Rome. 1. Prelude: Fontana Paola and the panoramic view of the city of Rome from that vantage point. 2. First interlude: La Befana festivities at Piazza Navona. The Protestant Cemetery in Testaccio at night under a full moon. 3. Second interlude: Fontana delle Tartughe in the Jewish Ghetto. Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne at the Galleria Borghese. 4. Third interlude: Bernini’s Beata Ludovica Albertoni in Trastevere. The Spanish Steps and the view of Rome from the French Academy at Villa Medici. NB: Unfortunately, thanks to the recession, Roman Holidays never saw the light of day. This year (2013) I decided to revisit the work, which lay dormant for 5 five years, and saw that it could use a little tweaking. The new version is essentially the same, musically speaking. I reduced the orchestration a bit (two horns instead of four, and two trumpets instead of three) and added more heft to the lower brass. I completely rewrote the tune for the floating foreign ghosts at the Protestant Cemetery. I also shortened the work by about three minutes by cutting some repeats. East Texas, A Bear Hunt, the third of five movements from A Texas Symphony, is a musical illustration of an actual two day bear hunt that took place in 1906 in the Big Thicket. The hunting party consisted of 10 hunters led by Texas Legendary Hunters, Ben Lilly and Bud Hooks, and 8 hunting hounds. The music opens with a joyful fiddle theme representing nighttime around the campfire. As the night falls, the music quietens and percussion instruments (cabasa and woodblock) introduce crickets, woodpeckers and nighttime sounds. A rainstick and plucked strings bring the nighttime rain. With the morning, ascending strings herald the sunrise, with solo woodwinds bringing birdsong. The hunt theme is introduced by the brass. The bear theme is played by the bassoon, who is surrounded by bees, played by dissonant strings. As the hunt begins, the bear becomes alarmed, then the chase ensues. The high point of the chase arrives with an orchestra hit. The piece concludes with a triumphant return to the campsite. This fun piece is enjoyed by musicians and audiences for the fun melodies and unusual percussion sounds, length approx 12 minutes..

Galveston, (from A Texas Symphony,) is the first movement of five Texas pieces that are musical illustrations of historical events that took place in Texas. Galveston, tells the story of the Battle of Three Trees fought between Jean Lafitte's pirates and the Karankawa Indians, Feb.21, 1821. The battle was a result of the pirates capturing a Karankawa Indian maiden, and the Indians retaliating by capturing one of Lafitte's men. The U.S. Calvary arrived and assisted, and after a three day battle, 21 Indians were killed, and no pirates or U.S. Calvary soldiers were lost. The battle took place by a grove of trees then known as Campeche Cove, known today as Pirates' Cove, on the West end of Galveston. The music is about 12 minutes in length, scored for orchestra. Galveston is traditional romantic style program music. Strings open the piece with a wave theme designed to portray a pirate sailing ship in the Gulf of Mexico, then flows into a pirate theme, followed by a kidnapping theme, and Indian pow-wow with war drums, then the three day fight begins. There is a historical marker at Pirates' Cove erected in 1936 by the Texas Hwy Dept. to commemorate the Battle Of Three Trees.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.723069 Composed by Miguel Rios Toledano. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). Folk,Latin,Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 230 pages. Joel Jacklich #2075457. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723069). ORCHESTRAL PARTS ONLY. (Large format score published separately) Aires Nacionales Mexicanos, Op. 558, is a potpourri by the nineteenth-century Mexican bandmaster and composer Miguel Rios Toledano. It was written sometime during the presidency of Porfirio Diaz (r. 1876-1911) to whom the work was dedicated. The introduction to the twenty-five minute work (which features more than forty traditional regional songs and dances from Mexico) begins with the Himno Nacional in an instrumental version (Chorus, Stanza, Chorus). By Mexican law and custom (although this law is not applicable in the rest of the world where the Himno Nacional is considered in the public domain), in order to perform the Himno Nacional (even in this case as part of a larger orchestral work), permission must be obtained. In the second chapter of the Mexican Law on the National Arms, Flag, and Anthem (Ley sobre el Escudo, la Bandera y los Himnos Nacionales), it states that if the anthem is played outside of Mexico, Article 48 requires that the Secretary of External Relations (SecretarÃa de Relaciones Exteriores), through proper channels, must grant permission for the national anthem to be played and will also ensure that the anthem is performed with dignity and is not sung for commercial purposes. In the spirit of this law, and for good international relations, it is recommended that when performing the entire work, it would be good form to contact the nearest Mexican Consulate to see about obtaining permission. Should permission not be received, a cut has been indicated in the music from the first beat of measure 2 to the second beat of measure 42 to eliminate the Himno Nacional portion from the performance. At the time the work was written, the Himno Nacional was not quite so closely monitored, hence its inclusion in this work and its common accepted performance a century ago. This arrangement for full orchestra was made from an original piano version by Miguel Rios Toldano. The orchestration was made for a concert in celebration of Cinco de Mayo by the Imperial Valley Symphony on May 5, 2012. The parts are in standard letter page format (8-1/2x11) The score (found published separatetely at SheetMusicPlus) is formatted for 11x17 paper.

Joel Jacklich #2075453. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723122). NOTE: Full Score is formatted for 11x17. Aires Nacionales Mexicanos, Op. The score is formatted for 11x17 paper. The parts (found separately) are in standard letter page format (8-1/2x11).

Set Free to go Home was premiered by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Symphony Band at Fisher Auditorium on February 6, 2020, conducted by Dr. Jason Worzbyt. It is agrade 3 band piece with a duration of five minutes. It is published by Musica Nova USA and availableon sheetmusicplus.com and jwpepper.com.Performance Notes: Set Free to go Home was composed with flexible instrumentation in mind. There are several instruments listed in the score that would enhance the piece (such as harp, oboes, double bass, ect.) but are not necessary to convey a successful performance. For example, if there are not five percussionists available, the piece may be played by less performers with the use of a drumkit, with one person playing two or more parts. This composition can sound very good whether thereare fifteen players or a band with one hundred players.Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer and conductor. Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308171 Composed by Stanley M Hoffman. 21st Century,Classical. Score and Parts. 207 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #897424. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1308171). I have long wanted to compose an homage to Jean Sibelius. However, his music is copyright protected in the EU for another five years or so. Thus, I struggled with how to compose a work without any direct musical quotations, and yet which in some way captures the essence of his symphonic music. I had a breakthrough in recent weeks, and the result is an eleven-minute orchestral composition which manages to invoke his music without directly quoting it. The opening passage on which the piece is based invokes the opening of Symphony No. 6 without quoting it; also, my homage is in the key of A Minor whereas the symphony is in the key of D minor. The piece also invokes the orchestral colors of one of my other favorite pieces of Sibelius, The Swan of Tuonela. My composition is scored very closely to that one, but I ended up using two oboes; I never needed an English Horn, and I added two flutes to that scoring. Thus, the instrumentation is as follows: 2fl-2ob-1cl/bcl-2bn-4hn-3tbn-timp-bd-str; the duration is ca. 11:30. My homage also invokes the more youthful compositions of the great master, and of course features his biggest personal influence, the sounds of nature. Sibelius was a master of musical forms. He managed to create entirely original forms such as the one for Symphony No. 7. While I do not pretend to be in his league in any way, I did manage to compose a work in a four-part form, which is unusual, and not the least of which for me. The piece contains all kinds of indirect references to the music of Sibelius through the use of motifs, melodies, harmonies, ornamentation, and orchestration. While not the most original piece of music I have ever composed (that would be The City In the Sea: Choral Tone Poem), my Homage to Sibelius is among the most subtle of my works in that it contains a good deal of variation technique, and a lot of attention to detail. Like my Homage to Vaughan Williams for string orchestra, the idea was not to break new stylistic ground, but rather to pay homage to the ground broken by the master. More so than anything, my Homage to Sibelius invokes how the symphonic music of Sibelius makes me feel when I am listening to it. I hope you enjoy it.---HOMAGE TO SIBELIUS for Chamber OrchestraMusic by  Stanley M. A twelve minute, through composed work, Variants and Strains is in three sections representing the pre-COVID world, COVID lock-down, and “post†COVID world. It explores the manic pace of our world, the isolation, loneliness, and loss of the pandemic, and the disruption and change brought about by the virus. The composition is meticulously created around mathematic principles of symmetry and proportion. It contains musical references to the traditional English folk melody, Kingsfold, used in Vaughan Williams’ Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus and the Gregorian antiphon, In paradisum used in the Latin liturgy of the Western Church Requiem Mass which includes the text, “May choirs of angels receive you and with Lazarus, once (a) poor (man), may you have eternal rest..

Organ - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q45183 Martin Luther. Composed by Enjott Schneider. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 24 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q45183. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q45183). On the occasion of the quincentenary of Reformation Day in 2017, the composer Enjott Schneider thoroughly studied Martin Luther the individual and all his contradictions. The result is a brilliant, demanding organ symphony which is perfect for concerts on the subject of Reformation and Martin Luther. The composer describes the five movements of the symphony as follows: '1st movement: Wir glauben all an einen Gott with its quintuplet-like beginning is very Gregorian in style, outlining the range of Lutheran emotionalism between the Middle Ages and the modern era. The irrationality of faith ultimately has priority over any thought and evidence. At the beginning of the movement, sounds of knocking on wood remind of the nailing of the Ninety-Five Theses to the doors of churches in Wittenberg. The chorale melody sometimes hides with an almost rough medieval saltarello, referring to Luther's robustness and vitality with which he knew to carry away even common people. 2nd movement: In 1530, the electoral prince of Saxony presented to Luther at Coburg Castle the golden signet ring with the Luther rose which became the symbol of his theology of grace. A white heart with black cross is fixed on a five-petalled rose. To him, white is the colour of angels and ghosts, black stands for the pain of crucification: The just shall live by faith, but by faith in the Crucified. But the fact that the rose and the heart are the dominating symbols shows how Catholic Marian piety remained an ingredient of Luther's spirituality throughout his life. In line with the dominant five-petal structure of the rose, this movement was composed, to a large extent, in accordance with the floating, lyrical rhythm in 5/8 time. 3rd movement: The omnipresence of death and dying – from the plague and war to the never-ending dangers of daily life – was an essential part of the world view of that time. Fears ensued that might heighten into the grotesque, e.g. in the pictures of Hieronymus Bosch. The Danse macabre was a popular motif in those years. Luther's chorale Mitten wir im Leben sind / mit dem Tod umfangen from 1524 (Enchiridion from Erfurt) is based on the Gregorian chant Media vita in morte sumus created in France around 750 and, with its idea of transience, inspired a simplistic air. 4th movement: The famous confession delivered at the Diet of Worms in 1521, I stand here and can say no more. God help me. Amen, are not Luther's words but the version later used as text for a pamphlet. However, it represents quite plainly the straightforwardness and inevitability of his mission. Musically, it was made into a perpetuum mobile, i.e. a dogged, ostinato and never-ending musical air. 5th movement: The Mighty Fortress, on the other hand, is one of the great symbols of Martin Luther which, with its shining C major key, embodies the Protestant ideology and willful nature of the Reformation unlike any other song. Heinrich Heine called it the Marseille anthem of the Reformation, Friedrich Engels the Marseillaise of the Peasants' Wars. This disputability is not thought through to the end but rather interrupted: With a jubilant birdcall version of the melody, the finale shows a rather chamber-music-like side of the ideals of freedom of Christians.'.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.817949 Composed by Adrian Dee. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score and Parts. 97 pages. Adrian Dee #6682479. Published by Adrian Dee (A0.817949). I wrote Fantasy in the late spring of 2019. Before I could arrange a premier, the COVID-19 pandemic set in and everything stopped. I finally had the joy of premiering the piece on December 8, 2021, with my home team the Newport Symphony in Newport, Oregon, with Adam Flatt conducting. The audience was on their feet for both the matinee and the evening performances, so I guess they liked it! The piece is melodic, rhythmic, tonal, and just plain fun to play. It goes together easily. Each movement is about five and a half minutes, total play time about 17 minutes. It is appropriate for advanced student groups as well as professional groups. The first movement, Busy Day (Presto), makes repeated use of a four-note motif (G-F-A-D) and is a driving non-stop articulated melody. The second movement, Lullabye (Andante), opens and closes with the flute playing a brief cadenza, floating above an ambiguous chord in the strings. The bulk of the movement is a dovetailed hypnotic ostinato in the strings with a gentle rocking motion, and the simple flute melody above. The third movement, Wild Dreams (Presto), should be exactly that, wild and raucous, with heavy aggressive accents as indicated. For additional notes, see p. 2 of the PDF.The Youtube link above (Watch) is a recording I made at home in 2020 with my computer playing the string parts. This is the first movement, the second and third follow. It is my sincere hope that this piece will bring joy and exuberance for both the performers and the audience. Let me know if you schedule a performance; I’d love to hear what someone else does with it.adriandeeflute@gmail.com adriandee.com

RayThompsonMusic #1065594. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1488743). The two Serenades, Op. 11 and 16, represent early efforts by Johannes Brahms to write orchestral music. They both date from after the 1856 death of Robert Schumann when Brahms was residing in Detmold and had access to an orchestra.Brahms had a goal of reaching Ludwig van Beethoven's level in writing symphonies, and worked long and hard on his first symphony, completing it only in 1876 when he was 43 years old. As preliminary steps in composing for orchestra, he chose early on to write some lighter orchestral pieces, these Serenades. The second serenade was first sent to Clara Schumann, who was delighted by it. It was written in 1859 and dedicated to her.The first public performance, reportedly for full orchestra (version lost?), was in Hamburg on 10 February 1860.Brahms himself reworked the piece for piano 4 hands in 1875.The same year he revisited the orchestral version, this time for a small chamber orchestra. The new scoring was for :piccolo,2 flutes,2 oboes,2 clarinets (in A for movements I, IV, V; in C for movement II; and in B flat for movement III),2 bassoons, 2 horns, violas, cellos, and double basses.(omitting violins, brass, and percussion)The five movements take approximately thirty minutes to perform.Allegro moderato (A major)Scherzo. I liked the bold tone very much and decided to compose a piece for it. The theme and ending are written in Chinese style using the pentatonic or five-tone scale. The six variations move into Western harmonies and a variety of rhythms. The world premier was held on February 10, 2008. Matt Springer was soloist with the San Francisco Civic Symphony. The second performance by Matt was with the San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra on June 7, 2008, John Kendall Bailey, conductor.. The audio clip is a recording of that performance.
