The Carnival of the Animals (Le carnaval des animaux) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was written for private performance by an ad hoc ensemble of two pianos and other instruments, and lasts around 25 minutes.This is my arrangement for wind quintet of mvt 2 Poules et Coqs (hens and Roosters, or cocks and hens)The original version has Strings without cello and double bass, two pianos, with clarinet: this movement is centered around a pecking theme played in the pianos and strings, which is quite reminiscent of chickens pecking at grain. The clarinet plays a small solo above the strings. The piano plays a very fast theme based on the crowing of a rooster's Cock-a-Doodle-Doo.It is quite short - about 1 min 5 secs

Its two verses and repeated chorus were written for Paulette Darty, whose accompanist Satie had been and who first sang it in 1903 at La Scala, a cabaret in Paris.Satie composed various versions: for piano and voice, as published in 1903; for an orchestra of brass instruments; for full orchestra, with a trio section added between the chorus and the second verse; and at some point for solo piano including this added trio section.My Arrangment for standard wind quintet is of the solo piano version, so it includes the additional trio section.The melody is shared amongst the 4 top instruments, and the quintet do NOT play tutti all the way through.Chcek out my other Satie arrangements3 Gymnopédies and 3 Gnossiennes. Satie's prose:Quel temps !Le vent souffle comme un phoque.Le yacht danse.Il a l'air d'un petit fou.La mer est démontée.Pourvu qu'elle ne se brise pas sur un rocher.Personne ne peut la remonter.Je ne veux pas rester ici, dit la jolie passagère.Ce n'est pas un endroit amusant.J'aime mieux autre chose.Allez me chercher une voiture.A stern ostinato in the lower reaches of the piano summons up a wind-blown sea as it tosses about members of a yachting party.A pretty lady passenger is not amused by the rough weather. I'd rather do something else, she pouts. Go fetch me a car. James Haynor #3109515. Published by James Haynor (A0.782176). Mel Bonis (1858 - 1937) was a prolific French classical composer. She wrote more than 300 compositions, including works for piano solo and four hands, organ pieces, chamber music, mélodies, choral music, a mass, and works for orchestra. Because she felt women were not respected as composers in the era, she shortened her given name - Melanie. This lively piece has the feel of a gallop, fanfare and show piece all in one. It’s a headlong musical frolic from the opening to the big finish and it’s downhill all the way. The piece practically plays itself! A great finale or encore piece that will leave your audiences smiling. ( Duration 2:22 )

The first of six 'SONATES àquatre parties différentes et également travaillées' for 3 Flutes, violins or 'autres Instruments avec la Basse' published in Paris in 1731. The arrangement for flute, oboe, clarinet & bassoon anticipates the availability of the clarinet by a couple of decades. There are 4 movements, Adagio, Presto, Adagio & Allegro in the French baroque style. The only dynamic indicated is the piano at the end of the last movement. Players of intermediate ability and above will enjoy the independent part playing and the opportunity to add extra decorations in the adagios.

Creative Spirit #976004. Published by Creative Spirit (A0.1392483). Transcription for woodwind quintet of the work originally composed by Erik Satie in 1914 for solo piano. By this time in his career Satie was filling his scores with non-standard performance instructions, satiric barbs and modernist prose, scattered about on a carefully, expertly fashioned musical structure of experimental harmonies, strangely static rhythms, and radically miniaturized forms. In the case of Les Trois Valses Distinguées du Précieux Dégoûté, Maurice Ravel was undoubtedly the target of Satie’s satire. Ravel was the Précieux Dégoûté (a revolting or jaded dandy, a fop), and Satie’s Trois Valses subtly derided Ravel’s popular Valses nobles et sentimentales, composed four years earlier. (Another set, Avant-Dernièrniers Penseés, is also published by Creative Spirit in a transcription for woodwind quintet.)TOTAL DURATION: about 3–1/2 minutes.

The Carnival of the Animals (Le carnaval des animaux) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was written for private performance by an ad hoc ensemble of two pianos and other instruments, and the complete work lasts around 25 minutes.
