This lovely cantata is about how we gather together in song to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It has a Celtic feel and the songs are from several different countries - United States, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Scotland, Italy. There are 8 songs included, 2 originals, 2 medleys and 4 songs that you know and love included also. All of the songs are in SATB with an (optional) accent instrument part (choice of flute, violin or cello - parts included at the end of each score) - the score has the flute part so you can see where the accent instrument fits into the score. A simple piano part is included in each score. The voices and accent instruments help to complete the entire piece. You can also purchase individual songs on here separately if you choose to not purchase the whole cantata. However, it is a bargain to purchase the cantata. There are narration parts before each song that give a little history of the song. You can opt out of using them if desired. The titles of the songs are: 1. Baby, Jesus, Was Born Unto This Earth. Derek Hasted writes "This fantastic theme was written as an integral part of the film of the same name.
Ennio Morricone and his son Andrea rightly received a BAFTA award for the gorgeous soundtrack music.
My arrangement captures the four ?verses? that feature in this piece - each verse maintains the same thematic material but the accompaniment becomes more involved and with a thicker texture, before the piece fades away again. The guitar accompaniment is styled on the piano solo score, but tailored here and there to fit the guitar like a glove.
The key here isn?t the same as the original, but it fits right into the ?sweet spot? of the flute?s pitch range and allows for a guitar accompaniment that can use open strings to improve the sustain. Unlike other arrangements, this has plenty of space and few finger gymnastics, so the gentle movement of the original is easy to reproduce.
I also have an arrangement for two guitars which moves the melody between the guitars as the piece progresses.

WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL - FLUTE and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This lovely melody, first made famous by Alison Krauss, and more recently by Ronan Keating, makes a delightful concert piece for flute and guitar.My arrangement is based on Ronan Keating’s version, where the guitar part is a little different to the original. The music doesn’t have the slow fade-out of Keating’s piece - it’s not that easy for a flute and guitar duo on stage to emulate that! But it does have all the rest of the thematic material, including the strange but seldom noticed fact that verse two is one measure shorter than verse one. The key is the same as Keating’s version and includes the rather lovely key changes - both seem to go up slightly in pitch, yet the second key change actually returns back to the starting key.Much of the guitar part can be played in the lower positions where there’s just a little bit more sustain to help support the flute part. Where the guitar part needs sustain across the bar-lines, I have used “ties to nothing†rather than formal ties. Ties generate a lot more black on the page and make the music harder to read. I hope you enjoy performing this!
