2tpt. Hn. Tbn. tba - Intermediate-Advanced - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM481 Composed by Roma Cafolla. Brass Quintet. Score and parts. 58 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM481. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM481). ISBN 9790570483808.Brass 4 All This piece was inspired by the brass section of the WNO, the importance of 'Music For All', and the need to make it accessible to children. A stately introduction opens the piece, with all the instruments passing the theme between them. This leads into a the main body of the piece, a bold, driving tune that contrasts with a more lyrical middle section before bursting out into fanfares of repeated notes to bring the music to a thrilling finish. Brass Neck The tuba is featured prominently in ths piece. The repeated motif drives the rhythm forward: 'Cry the tears for the freezing years. Just walk away' ... as the other players finally do. Marked Andantino and in Bb major the central section changes to Bb minor, where the horn and trombone carry the melody. This is then taken up be the second trumpet and the players stand as the music modulates back to Bb major. As each player finishes they sit down until the tuba is left to finish alone. Autumn Breeze A sultry September evening and a gentle breeze fans the last of the fading flowers. The family are gathered informally, and the music begins.... Marked Andante and with flowing descending quavers, the opening has interest for every player. The horn and then the trombone pick up the central theme, and this is then embellished by the trumpets. A gentle phrase marks the ending. Bankers Notes A letter drops on the mat. A final demand and the thought of the 'green paper rotting in their clutch' assails my mind. I write notes of a differnt kind! The opening is marked Vivace and is rather punchy, but soon settles into the main theme with driving rhythms throughout. The extended ending climaxes in rising staccato semiquavers for all.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533692 Composed by Carson Cooman. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Sacred,Standards. Score. 17 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038635. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533692). Biblicals: Concerto for Solo Piano in Five Movements (1998) was commissioned from thecomposer by an anonymous benefactor for pianist Kathleen Supové in tribute of her tirelesssupport of new music. The work is in five movements, each inspired by a different biblical quotation which isquoted in the score before each movement. If possible, these passages should be printed inthe program or read aloud before the performance of the work. Each movement isprogrammatic only in an internal sense. While the movements do not attempt to directlyportray the action of the passage in a storybook sense, they do attempt to capture the overallaffect of the verse. The form of the work is as a concerto for solo piano drawing on a titlethat has been used in the past by numerous composers. Likewise, although the work does notinvolve an orchestra, I have titled it concerto because it contains elements of a concerto solopart and because of the virtuosity required to perform the work. The work explores a widerangeof styles from quasi-lyrical to highly chromatic. Throughout, the work has a rhythmicintensity which should be observed by the performer. The first movement, Hovering Over the Waters, makes use of an irregular rhythmic patternintroduced in the opening measure and used throughout the work. Irregular and nervousrhythms using chromatic intervals pervade the entire movement. The second movement, Baldhead, is a forceful and loud movement making use of the clashbetween diatonic and pentatonic clusters. It is relentless in its pounding energy, irregularrhythms, and volume. This movement is dedicated to American composer Daniel Pinkhamon the occasion his 75th birthday in 1998. The connection of this movement to Pinkhamcomes in the superimposition of pentatonic and diatonic clusters, a technique used so well inone of my favorite Pinkham works, Blessings for Organ (1978).The third movement, Forgiven and Free, presents a tranquil scene involving the building ofchords, standard and otherwise, through the adding of tones one at a time. Brief chromaticmelodies appear and then disappear quickly. The fourth movement, Under the Sun, makes use of a motive involving four chords over a lefthand bass consisting of a major-tenth chord. This motive appears throughout the movement, constantly breaking in and interrupting the action. A variety of irregular rhythmic motivesappear throughout as a contrast to the main motive with its strict rhythm. Quotes of nurseryrhyme tunes are hidden throughout the movement as well in various forms. The fifth movement, The Seventh Angel, is a fast and furious tarantella. As the movementflies by a variety of musical ideas emerge and then disappear into the main motive again. The music continues to get faster and faster and finally the movement ends with a furiousprogression from the bottom to top of the piano and then a thunderous unison chord in thelower register.

Two Dreams for solo Trombone and 8-part Percussion Ensemble

Percussion Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811252 Composed by Antonio J. Garcia. Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,World. Score and parts. 119 pages. Gordon Cherry #6549777. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811252). Two Dreams for Trombone and Percussion EnsembleDr. Justin Alexander (Director, VCU Percussion Ensemble) invited me to create a piece for trombone and percussion ensemble that had roles for more- and less-experienced players so that they could mix within the performance. I so enjoyed composing and performing this work. He estimates the overall difficulty grade of Movement I to be a three on a five-point scale and Movement II to be a four, with a grade four for the overall piece; but some players’ parts (within the eight total in the percussion ensemble) are indeed easier. The two Movements are approximately five minutes each. The first Movement Bilita Mpash (An Amazing Dream) calls for (1) shekeré/guiro; (2) 5-octave marimba (shared with...); (3) 5-octave marimba (shared with previous); (4) claves/drum set with mounted cowbell; (5) bell/mounted cowbell/congas; (6) hi-hat/suspended cymbal; (7) bass drum; and (8) four toms/maracas.The Second Movement (Running with the Tigers) calls for (1) xylophone; (2) vibraphone/glockenspiel; (3) 5-octave marimba; (4) drum set; (5) shaker/samba whistle/congas (opt. voice); (6) triangle/bell tree/hanging bells/agogo bells (opt. voice); (7) bass drum (opt. voice); and (8) Timpani (opt. voice). Pending difficulty levels, the conga and drum set parts can optionally be split among additional percussionists. The score notes offer a stage plot and many rehearsal tips.Bilita Mpash (An Amazing Dream)The 3-2 Rumba Clave anchors this movement, launched by the shekeré. Rhythmic vamps of multiple bars form the landscape over which the trombone’s melody emerges, followed by a move to double-time 2-3 Rumba Clave (with montuno) and back. The trombone soloist improvises without chordal accompaniment for a while so could reflect on the preceding harmonies or instead freely improvise with no concern as to chord changes, while a later section requires improv over chord changes. After the recap, a surprise tag of the ending phrase in Cha Cha sets up the rubato finish. Bilita Mpash (BILL-it-uh m-POSH) is a Bantu term for an amazing dream, a dream so good that it is the polar opposite of a nightmare-a dream in a blissful state where all is forgiven and forgotten2. Running with the TigersThe opening, written-out marimba solo is somewhat of a nod to vibist Gary Burton’s influence in bringing mallets towards the expression of modern jazz. A 9/8 samba-groove (5+4) transforms to 4/4. None of the percussionists have to have a jazz background, though the drum set player would be more challenged if not already exposed to Latin drumming. The improvised solo section could be all solo trombone or could be divided among various performers, including trading. The recap of the tune begins over 5/8 samba (3+2, later 2+3). The closing arrhythmic drum-set solo crescendos as the optional surprise of percussionists’ (or additional) voices sing at the end. The title of this movement refers to a recurring dream my dad would have, as well as to the active movements of my grandson when sleeping in his earliest years.-Antonio J. GarcÃaInstrumentation is for:Solo Trombone and 8-part Percussion Ensemble:shekeré/guiro, 2 5-octave marimbas, claves/drumset with cowbell, bell, congas, hi-hat, suspended cymbal, bass drum, toms, maracas, xylophone, vibraphone, glockenspiel, shaker, samba whistle, congas, triangle, bell tree, hanging bells, agogo bells, bass drum and timpani. This rhythmic and dramatic work includes improvisation by the Trombonist. Listen to the brilliant live performance featuring Mr. Garcia and the Virginia Commonwealth University Percussion Ensemble directed by Dr. Justin Alexander.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.886120 Composed by Jason McChristian. Contemporary. Score and parts. 124 pages. Jason Gary McChristian #550943. Published by Jason Gary McChristian (A0.886120). This work is comprised of three series, each series contains four issues. It may be performed in a number of different ways; each issue or series may be performed separately or, the entire work, consisting of twelve issues and a Prologue, may be performed as a whole. In its entirety, the running time of Strange Myths and Wondrous Images is approximately forty-five minutes. Each issue represents an element: either an archetype, place, or an emotion, commonly found in comic book stories. As a whole, Strange Myths and Wondrous Images tells a particular story arc, one that is intentionally void of specific details, inviting the listener to imagine the particulars. Each series also contains its own sub-plot and emotional progression, while the formal structure suggests the traditional symphonic form. Each issue has a duration of three to four minutes, limited to a small, but intensely expressive amount of thematic material. The challenge inherent in this limitation was to create enough contrast, yet not so much as to require more time to resolve it, therefore, each issue is self-contained. Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.886118 Composed by Jason McChristian. Contemporary. Score and parts. 108 pages. Jason Gary McChristian #550933. Published by Jason Gary McChristian (A0.886118). Trombone Duet Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1297340 Composed by Gioachino Rossini. Arranged by David Mathie. 19th Century,Classical. Score. 16 pages. Gordon Cherry #887420. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1297340). Here is what arranger David Mathie writes about the 5 Duos by Rossini.Gioachino Rossini was an Italian composer, born in 1792 and died in 1868. He was known primarily for his thirty-nine operas, although he did compose some chamber pieces and a few orchestral works. His 5 Duos for 2 Horns in E♠were probably written in 1806 when Rossini was fourteen and living in Bologna, although they weren’t published until 1861. While it may seem unusual for a fourteen-year-old to be composing, by then Rossini had already written his String Sonatas at the age of twelve, and those works are still performed today. An explanation for why Rossini would write a set of duets for horn may be that his father was a professional trumpet player, and taught his son Gioachino to play the horn at a very young age. These five pieces were written for the natural (valveless) horns of the time, and like the horn writing of Mozart some very technical passages can be found in the lower part, especially in duets four and five. We can also hear the future opera composer’s arias in number three. The duos will work quite well on recitals and also for casual duet playing. Because trombonists can never have enough practice in clefs, I have transcribed the duets into three versions each using bass, tenor and alto clefs. The 5 Duos in 3 Clefs by Rossini arranged by David Mathie are perfect studies for any aged performer to begin learning Tenor and Alto Clefs. The duet format allows the teacher to play alongside the student, which is always so valuable for learning. They are of moderate difficulty making them well-suited for the Clef Novice to begin adding these necessary tools to their technique.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1158199 Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,March,Patriotic. 32 pages. Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #758476. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158199). There is nothing more quintessentially military than the grand sound of marches at special military events. Hundreds of marches have served their purposes through the many decades of military tradition in the United States of America. This 3.5-minute march was composed for the occasion of the change of command of the 55th Wing—“The Fightin’ 55thâ€â€”under Air Combat Command, located at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. The ceremony took place on June 14, 2019, which was also Flag Day. The new march served as a grateful tribute to the outgoing Commander, Colonel Michael H. Manion, and a welcoming gesture to the new Commander, Colonel Gavin P. Marks. Printed copies of the score were presented to the Commanders before the ceremony, and the march was premiered as the final pre-ceremony musical selection. The opening motifs are strongly reminiscent of the introductory measures of the “Air Force Song†most commonly played by Air Force brass quintets. Keeping in tradition with the form of most marches, the “Trio†section presents new material in a new key (down a fifth), with a contrastingly quiet dynamic. The opening motif of the Trio strain is a mutation, or a paraphrase, of “Anchors Aweighâ€, emphasizing the joint-force nature of the 55th Wing. The melody is repeated with a louder dynamic and a countermelody in the horn, and then is repeated once more with increased excitement in the accompaniment, variety of dynamics, and even a temporary key shift. Straying from the form most used by the “March Kingâ€, John Philip Sousa, Dr. Thrower omitted a fourth or final strain, and instead he modulated the key back to the original B-flat major and brought back the melodic content from the first strain. This form predates Sousa, and was more commonly used in Europe and early America. It smacks of “sonata formâ€, and even the modern formal designation of “recapitulating march†alludes to sonata form. The final recapitulating strain repeats with an obbligato soaring above it in the first trumpet part, now on piccolo trumpet. The march ends with a short coda that brings back the opening motivic allusion to the Air Force Song. Due to the selected formal structure, this march, “The Fightin’ 55thâ€, is much more unified than most typical marches. The very nature of military marches (including America’s beloved “Stars and Stripes Foreverâ€) displays four or even five completely unrelated melodies, or strains, throughout. The incorporation of thematic structure similar to that found in sonata form indeed makes “The Fightin’ 55th†an appropriate and even artistic concert march.

By Herbie Hancock. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Score, Set of Parts. 22 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
Arranged for Clarinet Quintet & optional drumset, "Watermelon Man" is a jazz standard written by Herbie Hancock, first released on his debut album, Takin' Off (1962), in a grooving hard bop version that featured improvisations by Freddie Hubbard and Dexter Gordon.<br> <br> A single of the tune reached the Top 100 of the pop charts. Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaría released the tune as a latin pop single the next year on Battle Records, where it became a surprise hit, reaching #10 on the pop charts. Santamaría's recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Hancock radically re-worked the tune, combining elements of funk, for the album Head Hunters (1973).<br> <br> Hancock's first version was released as a grooving hard bop record, and featured improvisations by Freddie Hubbard and Dexter Gordon. A single reached the Top 100 of the pop chart. Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaría released the tune as a Latin pop single and it became a surprise hit, reaching No. 10 on the pop chart.[2] Santamaría's recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Hancock radically re-worked the tune, combining elements of funk, for the album Head Hunters (1973).<br> <br> Hancock wrote the piece to help sell his debut album as a leader, Takin' Off (1962), on Blue Note Records; it was the first piece of music he had ever composed with a commercial goal in mind. The popularity of the piece, due primarily to Mongo Santamaría, paid Hancock's bills for five or six years. Hancock did not feel the composition was a sellout however, describing that structurally, it was one of his strongest pieces due to its almost mathematical balance.<br> <br> The form is a sixteen bar blues. Recalling the piece, Hancock said, "I remember the cry of the watermelon man making the rounds through the back streets and alleys of Chicago. The wheels of his wagon beat out the rhythm on the cobblestones." The tune, based on a bluesy piano riff, drew on elements of R&B, soul jazz and bebop, all combined into a pop hook. Hancock joined bassist Butch Warren and drummer Billy Higgins in the rhythm section, with Freddie Hubbard on trumpet and Dexter Gordon on tenor saxophone. Hancock's chordal work draws from the gospel tradition, while he builds his solo on repeated riffs and trilled figures.<br> <br> Hancock filled in for pianist Chick Corea in Mongo Santamaría's band one weekend at a nightclub in The Bronx when Corea gave notice that he was leaving. Hancock played the tune for Santamaría at friend Donald Byrd's urging. Santamaría started accompanying him on his congas, then his band joined in, and the small audience slowly got up from their tables and started dancing, laughing and having a great time. Santamaría later asked Hancock if he could record the tune. On December 17, 1962, Mongo Santamaría recorded a three-minute version, suitable for radio, where he joined timbalero Francisco "Kako" Baster in a cha-cha beat, while drummer Ray Lucas performed a backbeat. Santamaría included the track on his album Watermelon Man (1962). Santamaría's recording is sometimes considered the beginning of Latin boogaloo, a fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with those of R&B<br> <br> Hancock re-recorded the tune for Head Hunters (1973), combining synthesizers with a Sly Stone and James Brown funk influence, adding an eight-bar section. Hancock described his composition "Chameleon", also from Head Hunters, to Down Beat magazine in 1979: "In the popular forms of funk, which I've been trying to get into, the attention is on the rhythmic interplay between different instruments. The part the Clavinet plays has to fit with the part the drums play and the line the bass plays and the line that the guitar plays. It's almost like African drummers where seven drummers play different parts"; "Watermelon Man" shares a similar construction. A live version was released on the double LP Flood (1975), recorded in Japan.<br> <br> On the intro and outro of the tune, percussionist Bill Summers blows into beer bottles imitating hindewhu, a style of singing/whistle-playing found in Pygmy music of Central Africa. Hancock and Summers were struck by the sound, which they heard on the ethnomusicology LP, The Music of the Ba-Benzélé Pygmies (1966), by Simha Arom and Geneviève Taurelle.<br> <br> This version was often featured on The Weather Channel's Local on the 8s segments.<br> <br> The tune is a jazz standard and has been recorded over two hundred times. Hancock's recording has been sampled in "1-900-LL-Cool-J" from Walking with a Panther (1989) by LL Cool J, "Open Your Eyes" from Organized Konfusion (1991) by Organized Konfusion, "Smoke Some Kill" from Smoke Some Kill (1988) by Schoolly D, and "Pocket Full of Furl" from Uptown 4 Life (1996) by U.N.L.V. In 2003, pianist David Benoit covered the song from his album Right Here, Right Now.<br> <br> A live and funky performance at the 1999 Montreux Jazz Festival Casino Lights '99 featured Fourplay, George Duke, Boney James and Kirk Whalum trading choruses, and Rick Braun.

SATB choir divisi and soloists (soprano, tenor, and two baritones), with organ or brass ensemble - Digital Download SKU: OX.9780193536319 Composed by Bob Chilcott. Sheet music. Octavo. 16 pages. Oxford University Press Digital #9780193536319. Published by Oxford University Press Digital (OX.9780193536319). ISBN 9780193536319.SATB choir (with divisions) and soloists (soprano, tenor, and two baritones), with organ or brass ensemble Chilcott's mighty setting of words from the Gospel of St John is a dramatic yet optimistic retelling of the Passiontide story. As with Bach's great Passion settings, the role of the Evangelist is taken by the tenor soloist, who provides a melodious narrative throughout the work, in arioso style. The words of Jesus and Pilate are performed by solo baritones. Within the narrative, the SATB chorus becomes a crowd or a group of soldiers, commenting on the story in short outbursts, although the larger role of the choir is to perform the four meditations and five hymns that support the story. For the meditations-two of which include soprano solos-Chilcott has selected English poems from the 13th to the early 17th centuries. The five well-known hymn texts are set to new, original melodies, which are also intended for performance by an audience or congregation.
