Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: A0.917412 Composed by Gregory Fritze. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 370 pages. Musica Nova USA #6321277. Published by Musica Nova USA (A0.917412). The Four Seasons in the Basque Country is a 4 movement symphony for concert band. It is the Third Prize Winner of the 2020 American Prize in Composition - Concert Band. Grade 5, duration 27 minutes. The piece depicts four different places in the Basque country that the composer feels best show the changes of season. The first movement is Winter in the Costa Norte (Galerna). Galerna is on the northerncoast and is subject to harsh storms in the winter. As the piece starts off with a light-hearted dance in thepiccolo, a storm is approaching from afar. At first the storm seems to be in the distance but as it comes closer it overtakes the festivities in a bluster. For a short time two conductors are needed as the concertband is split into two groups – one showing the light-hearted dance led by the piccolo, the other thecacophony of the storm led by the percussion. The storm overtakes everything as it ends the movement with a flourish. The second movement Spring in Rioja Alavesa is a calming contrast to the first movement like the freshness of a spring day. The sun rises and shines beams of light onto the acres of grape vines. After a timea short rain comes to refresh and clean the plants. The third movement Autumn at the Guggenheim Museum is in a traditional 3rd movement form of a symphony, minuet and trio, but the harmonies sometimes use bitonality, having the melody in one key while the accompaniment is in another to suggest surrealism. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbaois one of the world’s most famous museums, not only for the surreal art inside, but also because of the architecture of the building itself. The fourth movement Summer in Bilbao is based on a dance melody composed in the Ezpata- dantza Basque style. It employs a rhythmic element with alternating 6/8 and 3â„4 meters where the eighth notes are basically equal, but in the dance the 3â„4 meter is actually a little bit longer. This type of subtlemanipulation of rhythm is used similarly in the Viennese Waltz, when the 3rd beat would be stretched outto accommodate the dancers. The Ezpata-dantza dance continues until the Altza Gastiak, the officialsong of the Bilbao Athletic Club, the local soccer team of Bilbao, is heard. After this the Ezpata-dantzamelody is transformed from a happy dance to a triumphant melody and rousing finale. In The Four Seasons in the Basque Country all of the themes are original except for the short excerpt ofAltza Gastiakin the 4th movement. Some themes are composed in the style of Basque folk dances.Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Professor and Chair of Composition, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over one hundred compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe that have been performed extensively throughout the world. Many of his compositions are available on ITunes, Youtube and Soundcloud. He has been a frequent traveler to Spain since 1993 and has promoted compositions by Spanishcomposers around the world. He is the only composer who has been commissioned six times by Spanishbands for Certamen competitions, with each band winning first prize. His compositions are recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Recordsand others. He has been a guest lecturer, conductor and performer at many colleges, universities and music festivals in the United States, Canada, Japan, South America and Europe. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1954 and has Composition degrees from the Boston Conservatory and Indiana University. He now resides in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1183534 Composed by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St. Georges. Arranged by Robert Debbaut. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Multicultural,World. 28 pages. ROBERT DEBBAUT #783207. Published by ROBERT DEBBAUT (A0.1183534). How is it that one can be born a slave in French colonial Guadeloupe and rise to be among Paris’ musical giants, to become a colonel in the French Army as well as the frequent dinner guest of princes and potentates? The story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, is surely an interesting one, even the stuff of which movies are made.Joseph Bologne’s father, Georges Bologne de Saint-Georges was a French planter. Saint-Georges was the name of his plantation. He impregnated Anne, the Senegalese slave of his wife, who bore him a son in 1745. Uncharacteristic of many of these sort of relationships he acknowledged the child was his and gave him his family name. When he was seven Bologne’s father took him to Paris for his education, enrolling him in a boarding school. Two years later he and the child’s mother returned to France and set up housekeeping as a family in Paris’ Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. At age thirteen Joseph’s father enrolled him in the Royal Technical Academy of Fencing and Swordsmanship. He quickly became the finest swordsman in the academy, perhaps in all of Paris. Upon graduation he was made an Officer of the King’s Bodyguard and a chevalier (an honorary knighthood). He went on to serve tours of duty in the French Army during the Seven Years War (1756-1763) and later after the French Revolution, where he was Colonel and commander of an all-Black regiment of the Revolutionary Army. All this in spite of the fact that French law forbade him, a man of African heritage, to become a citizen, to retain his father’s royal title of “Gentleman of the King’s Chamber,†or to marry outside his class. There is limited information about Bologne’s musical training, but he was obviously so well-skilled that Italian violinist-composer Antonio Lolli (1725-1802) wrote two violin concertos for him and French composer François-Joseph Gossec (1734-1829) dedicated his set of String Trios, Op. 9 to Bologne. Lolli may have worked with him on violin technique and Gossec composition, but this may be apocryphal. Bologne played in Gossec’s orchestra, and was later both leader and conductor of the group. As a composer Joseph Bologne was quite prolific, composing six operas, fourteen violin concertos, four symphonies concertantes, and numerous chamber works and songs. His Six String Quartets, Op. 1, Nos. 1-6 date from 1770-1771 and were published by the Paris publishing house of Jean-Georges Sieber (1738-1822) in 1773 (There are a total of 18 quartets: Six Quartets “au goût du jour†[up-to-date] from 1779 and the Opus 14 set of six which date from 1785). The Opus 1 quartets are dedicated to Anne Louis Alexandre de Montmorency (1724-1812), 7th Prince of Robeck (Robecq) and Grand Duke of Spain. The Opus 1 quartets all display a similarity to the Italian opera overtures from earlier in the Eighteenth Century (often called “sinfoniaâ€) in that they have an overall “A-B-A†form with the ‘A’ sections being robust allegros and all ‘B’ sections marked “rondo.†As such, in arranging them for string orchestra it seemed quite natural to rename them “overtures.†Certain liberties were taken by the arranger in order to maintain the integrity of the classic Rondo formula. All six have been arranged in this manner for string orchestra. They vary in length from twelve to almost twenty minutes. If you wish to obtain parts, write to debbaut@gmail.com and pay $42 via venmo or $40 via personal check and they will be sent to you in pdf format.

Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 33 minutes Year of composition: 1995 Program Note: I. With Friends Like These II. Inner Voices III. Little Hands and Little Feet IV. Freund Barry V. Friendly Persuasion VI. All For One and One For All I've known the Alexander String Quartet since 1987. More than just colleagues, they have become my friends: I've traveled with them, performed with them, watched them rehearse, dined with them in their homes and they in mine; I know their children and they know my children. Throughout the time I've known the members of the quartet I have observed the relationship between them, that special bond shared by the members of any touring band, described by one pundit as being like a bad marriage with no sex. Such issues notwithstanding, this particular marriage works. A string quartet represents, perhaps, the ultimate musical compromise between individual incentive and the common good. In a string quartet, by definition, four distinct instrumental voices and four different instrumental roles unite to create a whole greater than its parts. And, lest we forget, behind each instrument is a person, with his own particular attitudes, feelings, needs, and, yes, issues, all of which must be tempered and blended for the common good of a good performance. Among Friends is, its liberties aside, about the four people behind the instruments of the Alexander String Quartet and their relationships with one another; the way they play, rehearse, get along and, on occasion, not get along. The first movement, With Friends Like These is gritty and contentious in tone. The players argue, debate, annoy, tease, irk, cajole, abuse, harass, form brief alliances, heap merde upon, gang up on, and otherwise find endless ways to irritate each other. It is in this movement that the individual characters of the four instrumental parts stand in highest relief: the first violin as coloratura prima donna, forever attempting to soar above it all; the second violin as the voice in the wilderness, the viola as the voice of reason and the 'cello as mover and shaker. The opening of the movement is marked argument in progress; with greatest intensity. The second, third and fourth movements are a series of portraits, played without a break. In movement two, Inner Voices, the second violin and viola are featured in a collegial and decidedly non-contentious dialogue. Movement three, Little Hands and Little Feet, is the quiet center of the quartet. It is here that the first violin finally attains the lyric heights vainly sought in the first movement. The fourth movement is a vigorous dance entitled Freund Barry. This movement honors three great friends: Dr. Barry Gardiner, whose friendship and support made the writing of this quartet possible; Gustav Mahler, whose Symphony No. 4, second movement (Freund Heine) inspired this one; and Sandy Wilson, who first encouraged me to compose my second string quartet (Child's Play) for the Alexander in 1987 and whose boisterous 'cello is Freund Barry's alter-ego. The fifth movement is entitled Friendly Persuasion. Rapid fire repeated notes, accompanimental figures and melodic lines are shuttled about from voice to voice, each time elaborated or altered in some way. In this way the music slowly metamorphoses, ultimately arriving at a version of the argumentative music that concluded the first movement. Movement six, All For One and One For All is a fast, brief coda/finale, during which the quartet plays primarily in unison, the musical antithesis of the contentious argument that began the quartet. Among Friends was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation in the Library of Congress and the Alexander String Quartet. Among Friends i.

Clarinet Quartet: 3 Bb clarinets and bass clarinet. - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by A, Vivaldi. Arranged by Keith Gemmell. Baroque Period, Repertoire, Recital. Score, Set of Parts. 10 pages. Published by Keith Gemmell
Here we have an abridged version of ‘Spring’ from Vivaldi’s famous ‘The Four Seasons’ suite, arranged for a clarinet quartet. A little challenging perhaps but instantly recognisable and enjoyable to play. Suitable for intermediate players and above - no fiendishly difficult bits - the main points to watch out for are the tempo changes at bar 28 (where the first clarinet slows the tempo before a slight accelerando) and bars 32 (rall.) and 34 (a new tempo, slightly down on the opening one, is established). These tempo markings are not obligatory and the piece can ebb and flow rubato fashion at these points, if you wish. Also, note the rallentando at the end.In a few places where long sixteenth-note passages occur, breath marks may be needed. These have been deliberately omitted to enable the players to work out what’s best for them.Enjoy yourselves! Here we have an abridged version of ‘Spring’ from Vivaldi’s famous ‘The Four Seasons’ suite, arranged for a clarinet quartet. Cellos - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1042144 Composed by Johann Justus Friedrich Dotzauer. Arranged by Carl Hüllweck. Children,Classical,Instructional,Romantic Period. Educational Exercises. 112 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #646942. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.1042144). The Twenty-four Exercises for Two Cellos, Op. 159, by Johann Justus Friedrich Dotzauer, continue and conclude the series dedicated to the neck positions. These, alongside the just published Twelve Original Pieces, Op. 58, cover the first four positions in all possible variations, using an incredible richness of forms, melody, harmony, and rhythm. After these thirty-six little gems, your students will be able to face much greater challenges with renewed strength and assertiveness. While Op. 58 focused mostly on Theme with Variations, Op. 159’s most used form is the rounded binary one, while no less than three full-fledged fugues enrich the practicing landscape. Due to the lack of the original manuscript, lost during Steiner & Bell’s acquisition of Augener & Co., this edition is based on two surviving editions, by Carl Hüllweck and Johannes Klingenberg, both published in the first decade of the XX century, about 40 years after Dotzauer’s passing. To provide you with the greatest flexibility and choice possibilities, this edition comes in several versions (only C available here, others available on Gumroad): - A: a score only one, based on Hüllweck; - B: two separate sets of parts, one per editor; - C: a score & parts bundle, based once more on Hüllweck; - D: finally, a Collector’s Edition, containing all this, plus a long chapter comparing all differences between Hüllweck’s and Klingenberg’s versions, and an interactive PDF where, at the press of a button, you will be able to switch to the other version of the current part! All PDFs have been optimised to be of the highest Press Quality and lightweight. I truly hope you are going to enjoy this beautiful music and that your cello playing will reach new heights thanks to it!

Liszt: Weihnachtsbaum (Christmas Tree Suite)( A selection of six pieces from) They are:1.Altes Weihnachtlied (An old Christmas Carol)3.Die Hirten an der Krippe (The Shepherds at the Manger)(in dulce jubilo) 4.Adeste Fideles (O come all ye faithful)5.Scherzoso 8.Altes provenzalisches Weihnachtslied (Provencal Carol)9. Evening Bells. Some pieces are available separately. Weihnachtsbaum (English: Christmas Tree; French: Arbre de Noel) is a suite of 12 pieces written by Franz Liszt in 1873–76, with revisions in 1881. The suite exists in versions for solo piano and piano four-hands. Weihnachtsbaum does not demand great virtuosity, and it has been described as a distant relation of Schumann’s Kinderszenen and Debussy’s Children’s Corner. It occupies an unusual place in Liszt’s output, and it may be for these reasons that it has received relatively little attention from performers.Liszt dedicated Weihnachtsbaum to his first grandchild Daniela von Bülow (1860-1940; daughter of Cosima and Hans von Bülow). Daniela had accompanied her grandfather to Rome due to his frail condition. The first performance was on Christmas Day 1881 in Daniela’s Rome hotel room. This was the day on which her mother Cosima always celebrated her birthday, although she was actually born on Christmas Eve. Something different for wind ensemble.

Guitar Ensemble Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.954991 Composed by Jim Bosse. Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 18 pages. Jim Bosse #4592931. Published by Jim Bosse (A0.954991). This is the third movement of Six Easy Guitar Ensemble Pieces - Inspired by Historic Locations Around Cañon City. Originally scored for 5 parts, this version is for classical guitar ensemble - four parts. My idea was to write a set of short pieces (each part to fit on one or two pages) for beginner guitar ensemble, with a gradual increase in demand, but always accessable for a beginner ensemble. The first three movements are the easiest and have been performed by very young Suzuki and Childbloom guitar ensembles at their recitals in Colorado. Performance time is 3 minutes and 46 seconds. Videos of live performances of all six pieces can be viewed on Jim's YouTube channel: jimbosseguitar His web site is www.facebook.com/jimbosseguitar .

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.931836 Composed by Nathan Petitpas - Dots and Beams. Instructional. Octavo. 137 pages. Dots and Beams #4776187. Published by Dots and Beams (A0.931836). This collection presents its user with a series of increasingly difficult rhythms on a single pitch. The rhythmic material in this series is organized into 10 difficulty levels. Each difficulty level contains four exercises in each of the following time signatures: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, 9/8, and 12/8. This gives exercises in 2, 3, and 4 beats per bar in both simple and compound meters. The first two exercises of each time signature have no ties while the remaining two exercises in each time signature include ties. In Book 1 of this series you’ll find difficulty levels 1 to 5, while Book 2 completes the set with levels 6 to 10. The exercises in this collection are intentionally random and difficult to internalize. They don’t follow any predictable or standard groove pattern, but instead are random successions of eighth- and sixteenth-note groupings within the prescribed difficulty level. In keeping the rhythmic material as unpredictable as possible the door is left open for the materials to be used in conjunction with any number of exercises, while forcing the user to process every rhythm as its own event without relying on pattern recognition to help in identifying the rhythms. To curate the difficulty of rhythm in as objective a way as possible I looked at all of the possible eighth-note and sixteenth-note groupings within the basic unit of one beat. Each difficulty level builds on the exercises of the previous by adding groupings that are slightly more conceptually challenging. Difficulty Level 9 contains all possible groupings, while Level 10 focuses on the more challenging groupings by omitting easy ones. Some suggestions for how to use this book include: Practice sight-reading. When doing so it is encouraged to cycle through the exercises quickly rather than dwelling on a particular exercise for a long period of time. The goal in practising sight-reading is not to learn the material but to develop the skill of reading new material. Use a metronome! The most important thing you can do with this material is learn how to read these rhythms and play them in time. Advanced metronome work: Place the metronome click on weak beats. With the metronome clicking only on the beat you run the risk of relying on the metronome to give you the time. Placing the metronome click on non-strong beats forces you to take responsibility for the time. For example, instead of putting the metronome click on each quarter-note in 4/4, play the exercise with the metronome giving the second eighth note of each beat, or the last sixteenth note, or beats 2 and 4, or only the downbeat of each bar. Be creative with this one! The possibilities are limitless. Develop independence between hands by playing a repeating pattern in one hand while reading an exercise in the other. Expand on this by adding patterns in hands and feet while reading a rhythm with a remaining limb. This is a great exercise for drummers and percussionists but any instrumentalist could benefit from coordination practice. Use these rhythms to practice scales. Instead of playing scales in straight sixteenth-notes, try playing them in the rhythms given in these exercises. Write in sticking patterns, dynamics, accents, phrase marks, or other articulations for you or your students to practice. If you’re not happy with the ties I included, feel free to add some of your own. Combine the above exercises in any way that you think will be beneficial to your practice. As with any of the Dots and Beams books, the uses for this particular collection are limited only by the imagination of the musician using it. I encourage anybody using this book to find as many uses for these exerci.

Six Sonates d'un genre facile et agréable à violoncello et basso, op. 28

Instrumental Duet Cello,Double Bass,Instrumental Duet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU:…

Instrumental Duet Cello,Double Bass,Instrumental Duet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841356 Composed by Jean-Baptiste Breval. Arranged by Yuriy Leonovich, Michele Galvagno. Classical,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 106 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #6029285. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.841356). Jean-Baptiste Sebastien Bréval (1753-1823) was a French cellist and composer, who is, perhaps, best known for his cello sonatas, namely the ones in C major (Op. 40, No. 1) and G major (Op. 12, No. 5). Bréval was one of the last students of the cellist and composer Martin Berteau (1691-1771), continuing his teacher’s tradition of composing sonatas for cello with bass accompaniment. With both composers, the bass part was to be played by a second cello, very likely by the cello teacher. Many cellists opt in to have Berteau’s unfigured bass part realised by a harpsichord. However, the two-cello layout was common in the late Classical Era, especially in method books, such as Bréval’s own Traité du violoncelle (where Bréval states that the bass and the cello are one and the same), as well as Romberg’s, Dotzauer’s, et al. Romberg and Dotzauer even composed sonatas for cello and basso (second cello) accompaniment as well, Op. 43 and Op. 103, respectively. Our current publication presents student cellists with a beautifully engraved edition of Bréval’s 6 Cello Sonatas, Op. 28 and Air de Malborough, Op. 13. Bréval composed the Sonatas in c1795, most likely in conjunction with Op. 40, since Op. 28, No. 1 picks up right where Op. 40, No. 6 leaves off. Whereas Op. 40 and Op. 28, Nos. 1-4 are in two fast movements, Op. 28, Nos. 5 and 6 include a slow middle movement, No. 6 even using the thumb. The autograph, which the editor used as the primary source, and the first edition both present each sonata on four pages in score form. Our volume includes a score and parts for each player. The cello part includes fingering and bowing suggestions by Yuriy Leonovich. Each sonata begins with an Allegro movement in sonata form. The finales vary from five-part rondos (Nos. 1, 3, 5), to sonata form (Nos. 2, 6), to theme and variations (No. 4). The slow movement of No. 5 is in simple binary form, and No. 6 is in simple ternary. The six keys Bréval used for Op. 28 are the same as the ones he used for Op. 40, only in a different order. Op. 40 uses the following order: C, F, G, B-flat, A, D. Op. 28 uses the following order: D, C, A, G, B-flat, F. The Op. 28 sonatas are primarily written in tenor clef, whereas Op. 40 is primarily written in bass clef. The playing range is identical for both sets, with the exception of the high B-flat in m. 46 in the slow movement of No. 6, and high B and C in m. 37 of the finale of No. 6. Bréval explores more advanced bow techniques as well.

Despite the song’s appearance relatively late in the Beatles’ discography, it was one of the first songs that Paul McCartney wrote, at the age of 16. When the song was finally recorded in 1966, Paul McCartney felt it was too slow and turgid. George Martin simply solved the problem by speeding up the tape and raising the pitch by one semitone. This version of When I’m Sixty-Four is arranged in a suitable key and range for solo Clarinet. Piano/Guitar chords are also included in concert pitch above the stave.Musicians at an intermediate level will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performance.
