Themes for the first movement are taken from the opening scene, in which a university student (Haldin) assassinates a government minister. Haldin then seeks refuge in the room of a fellow student, Razumov. Haldin asks Razumov to go find the driver who will help Haldin escape from the city. The second movement is based on the scene in which the chief of state security interviews Razumov to find out what he knows about the assassin. I know, it sounds weird, but I see the color blue when I see the note G. But anyway, this piece was inspired by an ad I heard on TV. I was wondering if I could compose something similar to what I heard. This is what came out. Hopefully, you all benefit from this music. This is good for small ensembles that are of many different instruments. Go ahead and do a virtual concert of this. It would be great! It has a great driving rhythm that could get your heart pumping.

Around the Bend is a journey of tranquility, adventure, and discovery down a section of the Monocacy Creek in Bethlehem, PA. The first section of the music that appears throughout the piece is a simple melody that is reminiscent of a simple art song. It represents the river flowing along peacefully on a beautiful day. Occasionally, we come across an area where the water hits a small obstacle that causes the water to change its path and speed. We hear this as violent 16th note interruptions in the music. The river then returns to its natural flow and pace. Further along we encounter a small waterfall area with rapids and obstacles. The music cascades and has a rhythmic drive representing the rapids and the swift moving waters. After we have traversed the rapids, we return to the calm waters of the river as it continuously flows peacefully. The next portion of our journey is inspired by a specific and unique section of the Monocacy, where we find the hidden ivy. Trees surround the creek. When looking into them, at a certain angle, you will find a tree covered in ivy hidden amongst the other trees. When we reach this point in our journey, the music starts off mysteriously as though looking through the trees. When we find the hidden ivy, we are greeted by a majestic melody that reflects this hidden beauty. The piano plays a rising arpeggio repeatedly, reflecting the ivy’s goal to grow higher and closer to the sky. Once we pass the ivy, we return to the peacefully flowing river. We approach a bend in the river that we cannot see beyond. There is a bit of trepidation, but as we start to go around the bend, everything ends peacefully, and we know everything will be fine. The river will keep moving and we will survive. For Cello & Piano.

This composition is a piano piece written in A major in the common time signature 4/4. The story behind ‘Roadtrip on a Motorway’ is from a personal experience of travelling to Galway from Dundalk to go to Pink Training, a national and life-changing weekend. The original phrase represents the rising hope of what the weekend could become and how exciting it is to be outside of college. This is quickly interrupted as during the journey the car breaks down on the motorway one hour away from Galway city. This is represented by fast, irregular rhythms with counterpoint to represent the disorientation, panic and fear from not knowing where we are or how we are going to get to Galway on time. The return of the original motif symbolises hope coming back to us as a woman stopped on the motorway and offered to drive us to Galway. A sense of panic and disorientation returns in the music as we begin to become stressed about whether we will meet the deadline for registration. The song finally resolves to the original theme, but developed as a nod to the journey that we had while we finally make it to registration on time.

From the Composer:I committed last year (2022) to review my musical works that have been in digital storage, complete them as necessary, and release them for the world to hear. I finally finished my first work on this list, one that's been on my hard drive in one version or another since 1999 (that's 24 whole years!).Las Follias de España (which despite its name, originally came from Portugal) is a chord progression usually in either D minor or G minor in the form of i-V-i-VII-III-VII-i-V. Composers for the last 500 years have used this chord progression to come up with some fantastic theme and variations, ranging from unaccompanied works, trio sonatas, to even full orchestral implementations. You can spend a looooong time listening to all the beautiful compositions that composers have made over the centuries highlighting this very captivating set of chords.I humbly submit my own version of La Folia in D minor for String Trio and Cembalo (harpsichord). I wrote my first version of this in my senior year of High School as a challenge to myself to write music in a genre I loved. I made updates here and there over the years, but its sat on a hard drive the entire time. It's taken me months to essentially rework it to my satisfaction and has been submitted for copyright. I have uploaded it to YouTube to share with others.BIG SHOUT OUTS to the three composers that inspired me in this work:Corelli: - His version of La Folia is probably the most popular for violinists, especially those that play out of the Suzuki books. I included a modified version of his Folia (Variation 9) in my work (with all other parts being vastly different from his interpretation) as an homage to his work.J.S. Bach - He showed me that music can be as intelligent as it is beautiful. I have two variations inspired by his work. Variation 8 is one that I wrote this year (2023) which I wanted to write for a long time is a variation that showcases the Harpsichord. Bach's keyboard works and unaccompanied violin works inspired me here. Second, Variation 14 I feel has Bach's inspiration all over it. The violin parts are each playing separate distinct melodies in double counterpoint which trade parts on the repeat. The bass line follows a pattern that Bach has employed for the bass on a number of Violin concertos and lastly, the Harpsichord treble part is a mensuration canon based on one of the violin parts, with the keyboard part playing the melody 4x as fast with variations. Lastly on a play of numbers, number 14 was a very special number for Bach, and as a tribute, I've made this the 14th variation in my work. This was also a new variation I added this year (2023) as well.Vivaldi - My first musical love. I feel that I captured a little bit of his musical DNA in all my works and this piece showcases this. Vivaldi's works is what made me fall in love with Baroque music and I am indebted to him for the profound impact his works have had on my life.So here you go. 413 measures. My longest individual work to date. And because I love playing with numbers, I decided to release this to the world on my 41st Year, 3rd month. Enjoy!- Jose Bravo.

Ever since I published my first album ‘Sunday’ I have been wanting to write another one because I enjoyed writing the first one so much. I wanted to write even better pieces than the first one as well as a couple more pieces too. When thinking about a theme for this album, I decided to go for the season of summer and write music that reminds me of summer such as the warm breeze, the fragrance of the trees and flowers, and the sparkle of the sun on the water.In a lot of the pieces in this album, I explored the line between the ambient and melodic world with some pieces featuring a strong melody while others cycle through a chord progression in a certain pattern. This is something that I like to explore in a lot of my music as I think a melody is a great way to make a piece of music memorable but I also find that less melodically driven pieces still have their place in telling a story or setting a mood.So, if you are listening to this album or learning it, I hope that you find each piece enjoyable and that there is one that sticks out to you as your favourite. My intention is for you to listen to them while you drive, study, work, or have a rest or do anything else to make those moments a little more enjoyable and special.
