Piano Solo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1493847 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,21st Century,Chamber,Classical. Score. 40 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #1070504. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.1493847). Full scoreProgram note:In the late spring of 2024 I read a review in BBC Music Magazine of an ECM recording from 1994 of Keith Jarrett playing the CPE Bach Württemberg Sonatas. I am a long time fan of CPE Bach's music. But I have confess that the Württemberg Sonatas never did much for me. Maybe it's because all the previous albums of the work were recorded on the harpsichord, which I hate. But, when I heard Keith Jarrett do these sonatas on a Steinway grand, I was blown away!!! So blown away was I that I immediately wanted to do my own version of these great works by CPE. I am calling my work, after John Cage, Sonatas and Interludes. There will be altogether eleven movements. I. Sonata No. 1 - Moderato, Andante II. Sonata No. 1 - Adagio III. Sonata No. 1 - Presto TRIO iV. Interlude 1 - Andante moderato V. Sonata No. 2 - Adagio, più tranquillo TRIO VI. Sonata No. 2 - Molto allegro VII. Sonata No. 2 - Largo VIII. Interlude 2 - Allegro IX. Sonata No. 3 - Moderato X. Sonata No. 3 - Presto TRIO XI. Instrumental Duet Harpsichord,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 3 - SKU: A0.534704 Composed by Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy. Classical,Folk,Standards. Score and parts. 12 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #6342041. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534704). The composer and harpsichordist Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy was born in Paris in 1744, and died in 1824 in Villers-sur-Mer in Normandie. She married Jacques Brillon de Jouy 22 years her senior, and had two daughters, Cunégonde and Aldegonde, Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy had a salon in Passy whose guests included the violinist Jean-Pierre Pagin and cellist and composer Luigi Boccherini. Benjamin Franklin was also a frequent vistor and Madame Brillon has an extensive correspondence with him, including the period after his stay in Paris during the American Revolution .Many of her compositions were purchased in 1957 by the American Philosophical Society of Philadelphia, in honor of this friendship. In 2021, French Pianist Nicolas Horvath recorded a landmark CD for Grand Piano (GP872-73) of Brillon’s keyboard noatas with extensive notes by Aliette de Laleu, Deborah Hayes and Nicolas Horvath and Christine de Pas The keyboard sonatas published here are intended to document this reocrding. The twelve numbered sonatas, marked “Troisième Recueil de Sonates pour le pianoforte ou clavecin avec accompagnement d’un viiolon ad libitumâ€, are in the hand of a copyist and are contained in a bound volume labeled as her Troisième Recueil (‘Third Collection’) and dedicated to Mesdemoiselles Brillon. Evidently the composer at some point chose these 12 sonatas to be copied as a sampling of her work for her two daughters. The manuscript is in the collection of the American Philosopical Society in Philadelphia. The Sonata no. 1 in c minor is in two movements: Allegro non tanto and Minuetto. II. Minuetto

Published by Stephen Keeling (A0.1108051). My first piano sonata is in three movements: 1. Capriccio, 2. Adagio, 3. Theme and Variations. The first movement begins with a slow introduction before the vivace main theme appears which then goes through various guises. (I was inspired by Haydn's Capriccio in G). The Adagio is built on two themes before an extended Theme and Variations finale. The theme is stated and is then followed by six variations and ends with a grand Coda. The mp3 plays back the whole sonata.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.972645 Composed by James Siddons. Arranged by James Siddons Music and Writings. 20th Century,Concert,Folk,Gospel,Jazz. Score. 19 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #4350561. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972645). About the Sonata Hymnica Series Program Note Composer James Siddons draws on the ethos of American rural hymns and spirituals to create evocations of the deeper, larger meaning of familiar church melodies. These sonatas for piano solo explore these deeper meanings in a variety of contemporary musical influences, while keeping in mind the acoustics of small rural churches of the late nineteenth century, with wooden floors and walls, high ceilings, and dimensions determined by local builders who knew how to shape a room for excellent acoustics in an age of no electricity and no microphones. These sonatas are but partly about the specific melodies and words, and mostly about their meaning in spiritual contemplation . . . and the piano, resonating, reverberant, sometimes whispering---as a sacred harp. Although these sonatas have no specific titles, the first sonata may be thought of as the Prayer Sonata, the second as the Travel Sonata, as in a spiritual journey, and the third sonata is about our greatest fear, that of being alone and without God. Performance Note The pianist must keep in mind that these sonatas are about playing the piano as much as playing a composition. Musical effects characteristic of the piano and descriptive of the memory in American culture are the substances of these piano solos. Touch is important: in many places, several dynamics are called for on the same beat. All three pedals on an American piano (damper, sostenuto, and sustain) are needed. The orchestral and cinematic structure of this music requires extensive use of three staffs, which may consist of two treble and one bass staff, or one treble and two bass staffs. In basic grand-staff passages, the two staffs may both be treble or both bass. The musical influences in these sonatas include religious song in rural America, the chromaticism and Expressionism of Arnold Schoenberg and his followers, and the tone colors of the music of Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu.DurationsSonata Hymnica No. 1 --- 15 minutes.Sonata Hymnica No. 2 --- 11 minutes. Sonata Hymnica No. 3 --- 9 minutes. About the Composer Composer, musicologist, and pianist James Siddons studied composition with Dika Newlin, a protégé of Arnold Schoenberg, and electronic music with Merrill Ellis, founder of the electronic music program at the University of North Texas, where he also earned a PhD in musicology. After a year at the University of London, where he studied musical analysis at King’s College and electronic music at Goldsmiths’ College, Siddons spent two years in Japan as a research scholar at Tokyo University of Arts, participating in the Ethnomusicology Seminar of Fumio Koizumi. Siddons has also studied theology and liturgy at the Duke University Divinity School. In addition to books and articles on contemporary music and music in Japan, Siddons was written compositions in many genres. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1287339). Ferdinand Ries’ first cello sonata was written for Bernhard Romberg in 1808, who performed frequently with Beethoven at that time. The title “Grande Sonate†clearly refers to the aim to excel music written for amateurs to play at home. This is the first modern edition of the work. It has two cello parts: one with the original phrasings only, and one with Martin Rummel's suggestions for fingerings and bowings.

Piano Solo - SKU: A0.507108 By Nicolas Horvath. By Hélènede Monteroult. Arranged by Paul Wehage (editor). Classical. Score. 17 pages. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.507108). Hélène de Montgeroult was born into an aristocratic family in Lyon and studied piano with Nicolas Joseph Hüllmandel and Jan Ladislav Dussek. She married the Marquis de Montgeroult who died as an Austrian prisoner in 1793. Reportedly it was respect for her compositions that allowed her to survive the French Reign of Terror. A set of improvisations on La Marseillaise, performed for the Committee of Public Safety, earned her her freedom after she was imprisoned in the Revolution due to her aristocratic background. After her husband's death, Montgeroult took a position at the new Paris Conservatoire in 1795, the first female professor ever to be appointed there and taught for two years. She is considered to be an important bridge between the Classical and Romatnic styles. She died in 1836 in Florence, Italy. Recorded for Grand Piano by Nicolas Horvath.

Guitar - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1393268 By The Candlelight Guitarist. By J.S. Bach / traditional. Arranged by Brad Powell. Baroque,Classical,Holiday,Instructional,Traditional. Guitar Tab. 4 pages. Geofonica Artistworks #976750. Published by Geofonica Artistworks (A0.1393268). This is a mash-up of the traditional Happy Birthday melody superimposed over J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 Prelude, arranged for solo classical guitar. This arrangement involved careful editing of essential elements of the Cello Suite Prelude (not the entire piece), tuning the guitar's 5th and 6th strings down a whole step, and adjusting harmonies of the Cello Suite to match Happy Birthday, still retaining Bach's compositional style.  It's an intermediate level classical fingerstyle, similar in difficulty to the Sor Etudes. You can see & hear the full arrangement performed in the YouTube link provided. LYRICS are included in both English and German.ABOUT: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso, and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his four dogs. Brad also played as the solo guitarist for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventure at Disney's Grand Californian Resort by Disneyland (March 2019-January 2024), providing music for the Disney Princesses (Belle, Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Mulan, Aurora, Ariel, Pocahontas, Cinderella, and their friends and guests).COMMENTS FROM LONG-ESTABLISHED REVIEWERS (for this and other Candlelight Guitarist recordings)...Bill Binkelman - Music Reviewer for Zone Music Reporter and New Age RetailerThe Candleight Guitarist is your tour guide to a land of easy-going, warm, and inviting instrumentals.Rebecca of Amazon - Amazon.com HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWERBradley Powell's flawless playing allows you to completely relax into sleep or relax into an evening of candlelight and romance. Arranged by Yoon Jae Lee. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Instructional,Romantic Period. 9 pages. Ondine Press #1066051. Published by Ondine Press (A0.1489200). This is a set of parts to Yoon Jae Lee's arrangement of the Adagio from Beethoven’s Pathétique sonata for string quartet. The full score is available separately. The 2nd movement of Beethoven’s Pathétique sonata is very popular with many pianists and this new arrangement makes it accessible for string quartet. Suitable for players of all levels from intermediate to advanced, it is perfect for use in weddings, parties or even as an encore to a concert program. Beethoven made his own string quartet arrangement of the next sonata No. 9 in E Major (Op. 14, No. 1) and in doing so, transposed the work up a half step to F Major. This arrangement follows suit by also transposing the movement up to the more string friendly key of A Major. Unlike many other arrangements already in existence, this arrangement emulates his early string quartet writing style seen in his own Op. 14, No. 1 arrangement as well as the Op. 18 string quartets.Click here to view perusal score.Click here to purchase full score.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1489194 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Yoon Jae Lee. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Instructional,Romantic Period. 8 pages. Ondine Press #1066045. Published by Ondine Press (A0.1489194). This is a full score to Yoon Jae Lee's arrangement of the Adagio from Beethoven’s Pathétique sonata for string quartet. The set of parts is available separately. 18 string quartets.Click here to view perusal score.Click here to purchase set of parts.

French Horn Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.767350 Composed by Mike Lyons. Concert,Contemporary. Individual part. 7 pages. Lyons Music Services #3520235. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767350). This is my third new sonata for unaccompanied French horn. it has three movements as follows: Movement 1: Dance It begins with a crotchet theme which forms the basis of the rest of the movement. The opening should be stately and measured, but not slow. The echoes should be as quiet as possible for each statement of the opening motif. I have made a lot of use of rhythmic features in this movement. After the Maestoso, the 12/8 section is in the nature of a jig, with lots of repeated pitches and very rhythmical There's much use of syncopation. After I have played around with these ideas (intervals based on the opening) there is a more legato tune, also based on the opening music, but in a grander style and marked nobilmente. This is almost a processional, and leads to a reprise of the jig motifs in a new mode and with modifications to the rhythm. The second movement of this sonata is a set of 3 variations on an original tune. The melody is quite hymn-like and needs to be played as such. Very legato, with very slight tongue. Variation 1 is an 8th note variation, with a slight increase in tempo to help it to flow. The player will need to pay close attention to the written phrasing so as not to lose the theme. This variation is p throughout. Variation 2 is a triplet/sextuplet variation, again with a slight increase in tempo. This variation has turns, which I have written out in ossias above to be clear how I would like it to be played. Variation 3 is a semiquaver and glissando variation, requiring good tongue technique and clear phrasing. Breathing should be easy as I have made provision for breaths to mark the ends of phrases. Please don't change these! Finally, there is a restatement of the original theme with slight adaptations to bring the movement to a quiet finish. The third and final movement of the sonata is a rondo. The opening music keeps returning throughout the length of the movement. It comprises a stuttering rhythmic phrase with alternating upwards and downwards scales which gradually build up throughout the opening of the movement. Each time the ritornello idea returns it has been altered in some way. Between the ritornelli are slightly less frenetic sections of cantabile melodic ideas which hark back to both the first and second movements as well as referencing the scalic ideas from the third movement. Although the music is fast, it should be playable without resorting to triple tonguing.

Published by Philip Kim (A0.1512670). This is the third arrangement from a series of piano concertos for solo piano. The first two are Beethoven's Emperor Concerto and Rachmaninoff's second concerto. Chopin's concertos always sounded like a grandiose piano sonata to me. The orchestration isn't as complex as Beethoven's and Rachmaninoff's. But it didn't mean it was easy to transcribe. I think the transcription turned out well. Already a challenging piece, a solo version is more. The beautiful Romance of the second movement is worth learning it. Arte Nova Music Lab #3682165. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742428). The Concerti Grossi, Op. 6, or Twelve Grand Concertos, HWV 319–330, are 12 concerti grossi by George Frideric Handel for aconcertino trio of two violins and violoncello and a ripieno four-part string orchestra with harpsichord continuo. First published by subscription in London by John Walsh in 1739, in the second edition of 1741 they became Handel's Opus 6. Taking the olderconcerto da chiesa and concerto da camera of Arcangelo Corelli as models, rather than the later three-movement Venetian concerto of Antonio Vivaldi favoured by Johann Sebastian Bach, they were written to be played during performances of Handel's oratorios and odes. Despite the conventional model, Handel incorporated in the movements the full range of his compositional styles, including trio sonatas, operatic arias, French overtures, Italian sinfonias, airs, fugues, themes and variations and a variety of dances. The concertos were largely composed of new material: they are amongst the finest examples in the genre of baroque concerto grosso.Taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concerti_grossi,_Op._6_(Handel)

Published by Ryan Blauvelt (A0.921864). The sweet and joyful character of this Kuhlau Sonatina has made it the most popular of his piano works.Classical sonatas normally have three parts or movements: fast-slow-fast. However, this sonatina has only 2 movements, fast and faster. The energetic second movement is short but it packs a punch. The main theme is danceable and very articulated, but it also contains a more lyrical section, brilliant chromatic scales, and a dramatic grand finale. This arrangement features one pianist in a quasi-concerto format. The six Sonatinas, Op. 55, were published in Copenhagen in 1823 and, like the other sonatinas, were designed for teaching purposes or otherwise for the amateur market.

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.507111). She is considered to be an important bridge between the Classical and Romantic styles. She died in 1836 in Florence, Italy. Recorded for Grand Piano by Nicolas Horvath.

Clementi’s most musically fascinating piano works after the sonatas and Gradus ad Parnassum are undoubtedly his Capriccios, which are scattered across his entire output and span about forty years of his fifty year-long career. Collating these various Capriccios in a completed edition brings perspective and insight into Clementi’s evolving personality as improviser at the keyboard. In particular, the 2 Capriccios Op.47 of 1821, representative of Clementi’s late style, are large-scale, three-movement, grand-sonata-like works with substantial introductions, which challenge the very definition of the Capriccio as being typically short and free in form.Content: Foreword Critical Commentary Capriccio, Op.17 (1787, revised c.1802) Capriccio, Op.34 No.1 (1795, revised 1804) Capriccio, Op.34 No.2 (1795, revised 1804) ‘Scena Patetica’, Exercise 39 from Gradus ad Parnassum Op.44, Book 2 (1819) ‘Capriccio’, Exercise 80 from Gradus ad Parnassum Op.44, Book 3 (1826) Capriccio, Op.47 No.1 (1821) Capriccio, Op.47 No.2 (1821)
