The original motet was written for 5 voices. This transcription for brass choir has 8 voices. The trombone parts were created to give the piece fullness, as they mimic the Trumpet 1 and 2 parts. The Euphonium and Tuba parts share a lot the same notes also, to help give the piece a solid bottom. That said, this piece can be played with only 5 parts, but it sounds great with 8. This piece will help make your Christmas concert a very festive one!Scored for 2 Trumpets, 2 French Horns, 2 Trombones, Euphonium and Tuba.Duration: 3 minutes

Mr. Chasanov has arranged this music beautifully for a eight-part Trombone Choir/Ensemble of two four-part choirs. The music is full of remarkable rhythmic counterpoint demanding full concentration from the performers. The four-minute arrangement is appropriate for moderately advanced performers. This is an ideal choice to be used for general recitals or as a jubilant work for the Christmas period. Instrumentation: 6 Tenor Trombones and 2 Bass Trombones

Hodie Christus Natus Est is a festive concert piece for the Christmas season with traditional Latin text. It is scored for SATB voices with multiple divisi sections and soprano/mezzo soprano solos and closes with SATB double choir and soli. The piece may be sung a capella or with antiphonal brass choir (available separately). A rhythmic middle section alternates 3/8 and 2/8 figures juxtaposed with the original motif within four-beat measure units. The piece was premiered by the choirs of the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1996.

In the choral parts, an expressive lyricism predominates, revealing Siegfried’s affinity for chant and early music. A balance between accessibility and challenge is maintained throughout. This is the third movement, Hodie Christus natus, based on the familiar Christmas text, Today Christ is born, today the Savior has appeared. The movement begins majestically, with the singers declaiming the text against a descending pedal motif.
