This Abba classic has a simple form with really fun vocal line solos for all the instruments and a great beat, which the cello and viola hold down for the majority of the song. This arrangement starts with an intro that uses homorhythmic material with tight harmonies that imitate the feel of the original Abba music video.  As the song launches into the first verse, the viola and cello team up playing the “Take a Chance†rhythmic figure, emulating the chanted words from the song, with the violin on melody. The viola takes the melody on the first half of the chorus, then hands it off to the cello which has a brief section in tenor clef. The song repeats and fades out on the chorus.  Bowings and rehearsal letters are included for ease of sight-reading, ideal for gigging performances. This version has been arranged a half step down (the original song was written in B Major, and I adjusted the key to B-flat Major so that it’s a bit friendlier to string players).

Mostly, we tend to think of a barcarolle as a gentle compound time boat ride. This work by Mendelssohn, however, is more like a competition between gondoliers to see who can get through the Gran Canale the fastest!A difficult and challenging piece for brass because of the flow needed to keep the music light and delicate. Continuing the tradition of pieces based on characters in the Dungeons and Dragons game that I run, The Bedouin of Wyrms follows a young ranger who struggles to find a place in the world, trying to find out how to deal of moral quandaries with no correct answer. Despite this, Sylveon Jastire keeps a kind heart and solemn sense of purpose. The Passionate Sylveon Jastire is young and adventurous, with the naivete to match. With this outlook, she cares about only one thing; protecting her family by entering the wilds and taking care of any threats before they even have the chance to become problems. The Lamented and The Headstrong Sylveon, known colloquially as Silver, learns the difficulties of the world, and that nothing is as straight-forward as it was at her desert temple home. In the second movement, Silver learns the consequences actions have on the world, both good and bad. In the third, her resolve tightens as she doubles down on her ideals. This proves to be a good thing, as her tenacity eventually leads to her liberation. The Free Silvers work has paid off. Through a strong belief in her ideals and a little flexibility in her methods, Silver has Met countless friends, slain countless evils, and saved the brother she never knew she had from an evil that lurked beneath. The idea for the beginning motif came when I was simply at a piano and began playing around with chords based on quintal harmonies, chords built off of perfect fifths instead of the usual major or minor third. When I wrote this piece, I thought of a scene in which a pair of beings, one with a masculine energy and the other feminine, were dancing quite literally in the clouds. In the B section, the pair holds one another tightly as they share memories of one another, some fond and some bittersweet, before returning to their waltz. In the D section, the feminine being goes her own way and dances solo with a sense of vigor and raw passion. She goes a little too hard and trips, falling on the ground. The masculine being comes to her aid and gets her back on her feet, returning to their waltz once more. By the end, the sun sets and they part ways, sharing a tender embrace and a kiss goodbye.

Written around 1820 by Italian composer Saverio Raffaele Mercadante, this engraving of his CONCERTO FOR HORN is in the original key and has been meticulously edited. Consisting of two sections, the beautiful, plaintive opening slow section (Larghetto alla Siciliano) is about 2.5 minutes in length and works well as a stand-alone feature to showcase the sonority of the horn. It would be perfect for a talented high school player. The concluding fast section (Allegretto brillante) is bubbly, delightful, and quite technically challenging in a few spots. The concert band / wind ensemble accompaniment (available separately) is scored to prevent overpowering the soloist and will work with smaller groups for senior recitals, etc. NOTE: This download is for the 4-page SOLO PART ONLY.
