Chopin - Prelude - Opus 28, No. 14 - (Key Map Tablature)

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.984719 Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by John M. Honeycutt. Romantic Period. Score. 6 pages. Music Innovators Workshop #4359399. Published by Music Innovators Workshop (A0.984719). This incredibly difficult-to-read piece is tamed by the key maps tablature. The traditional notation for this piece is at the extreme of its ability to notate piano music - and it fails miserably! It is playable only by the gifted few who have the tenacity to race through reading this incredibly fast 6 flat Eb minor notation. with its additional double flats and accidentals, some of which must be played on white keys. Surely the piece must be some kind of joke - Chopin's way of thumbing his nose at those bold enough to try to play it. It surely is NOT the great music that Chopin usually crafted. The joke is that it is not really difficult to play. It is just incredibly difficult to READ! The music can be played, although without its breakneck speed, by students at the intermediate level if reading from a key map. This piece is an extreme example of how much easier playing from key maps can be.This piece is notated on a vertically oriented tablature called a key map. Key maps are intended to SHOW you (visually) which keys to play by matching (mapping) the locations of the keys on the keyboard. >>> The group of 12 keys from Middle C up to B form what we call the green Octave Group. (There are 7 of these identical groups on the piano distinguished by their colors and locations.)The key map staff is based on an Octave Group of the keyboard. For each key map octave group, the 5 vertical lines of the staff stand for the 5 matching black KEYS. >>> Staff lines ARE SPACED to match the horizontal spacing of the black keys on the keyboard The notes for black keys are placed ON these staff lines. The notes for the white keys are placed BETWEEN the lines. >>> The notes of a key map move to the left and right to indicate change in PITCH and down the page to indicate the passing of TIME (rhythm). The vertical length of each note is proportional to the time (in beats) that the sound requires.

Easy Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.759698 Composed by Frédéric François Chopin. Arranged by AJ Tan. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 3 pages. AJTanPiano #6661443. Published by AJTanPiano (A0.759698). Often known as the Minute Waltz in English, this Chopin waltz is infamous for its speed. Rumors say it should be played in a minute (which is not true). However, its French title (Petit Chien, Little Dog) makes it easier to understand how this piece should sound. This arrangement is dedicated to students who like ambitious classical work but are still in the making. It allows students to warm up to the finger-turn technique and learn to play the running notes smoothly while not worrying too much about the left hand's chords. Also, you could explore different pedaling techniques with this arrangement:)Suitable for Grade 3 to 5's learning.

Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1177383 By Frederic Chopin. By FreÌdeÌric Chopin. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. 19th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Romantic Period. Guitar Tab. 6 pages. Brian Streckfus #776814. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1177383). Key: Changed from B minor to A minorCapo: 2 (If you want original key, but I wasn't a fan of capo 2; it felt like there was no bass notes.)1. Arranged for guitar. 2. Piano pedal markings removed 3. Phrase markings removed and opted for commas. 4. Re-harmonized 5. Key changed from B minor to A minor. 6. Slurs 7. Left hand fingers 8. Tablature9. Harmonics added when advantageous, but playing the regular note would work as well.10. Piano pedal markings removed and replaced with commas. It's a flaw of sheet music that slurs, ties, and phrase markings are all the same symbol, and having all three happening can clutter a score.Compromises This may sound obvious, but of course I had to make some alterations to make this flow properly on guitar. Many of the original chord inversions on the piano were not kept. However, many harmonies were kept intact as far as following the chord nomenclature name. Measure 50 was originally an A minor chord, the irony is that the F major suprise is an homage to Chopin anyways, suprised he didn't opt for it. To be honest, I don't like how there is a perfect authentic cadence in measure 50. I think modern audiences would want to clap too badly, so I believe that ending needs to be slightly messed up to propel the music forward, and give a sense that there is still a problem. The other chord that was changed was an E7b9 to a Ddim7 in measure 78. If you know your theory well, you'll realize these chords have the same exact function and nearly the same notes, it's just that Ddim7 flowed a bit better on guitar. I'd rather have guitarists play the rhythms correctly and with musicality, than have guitarist clunkily go though overly large chords in order to mantain historical accuracy. Measure 15 was hard to keep the original chord intact. A Bb/D with a G in the melody as a suspension sounds more like a g minor chord. That is cliche Chopinesque neopolitan moment so the Bb is crucial to mantain. Having some rough sort of Bbmaj7 or G minor chord while mantaining the melody seemed to sound the best even though the name of the chord might have gotten a little off. I tried chord charts, but they seemed messier than what it was worth. I also could have the denser tablature in the sheet music, but that does make it look 10x more intimidating. So this version is unique in that the tablature is my denser arrangement, whereas the sheet music would allow someone to quickly make a new arrangement. I like this ethos because most guitarists are likely to be much better at playing chord quickly when they don't have to have an exact voicing. This makes this arrangement easier to further perfect since I am naming the harmonies, which often isn't done in classical music.BackstoryThis is one of my favorite pieces, and also my favorite composer. I feel classical guitar repertoire is lacking easily playable music in the romantic style. Often, if it is romantic guitar music, it is extemely difficult and therefore only a select few can enjoy performing it. Also, I sometimes get my hopes up to find a romantic guitar composer, but then after listening, there's nothing quite like Chopin. Obviously, you will have to have some chops to play this since it's one of the most ambitious undertakings a guitarist could take, but it's also not so hard that you have to be train for a decade because I changed the key.

Andrew Howes #904608. Published by Andrew Howes (A0.1315833). A waltz I wrote for my first grand-daughter Charley on her 13th birthday. Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.987082 Composed by Eric Paul Nolte. Contemporary. Score. 14 pages. Eric Paul Nolte #1551123. Published by Eric Paul Nolte (A0.987082). This second piece in my series of Introspections is a sort of passacaglia. It is a dramatic but lyrical piece in triple meter that features a kind of ground bass of chromatic harmony, with melodic variations above it. This much-varied ostinato is introduced emphatically in the opening statement, is developed throughout, and closes the piece, transfigured. In my introduction to this piece, I offer some technical advice for the intermediate advanced pianists, for whom the piece is written, on how to play to hard passages, particularly the fast scales. This piece is not for beginners, but neither is it nearly as difficult as any of the harder etudes by Chopin. Moreover, much of it is easy and, I should hope, gratifying to play. While the harmony of this piece is chromatic and spiky, it is tonal, melodic, and, all said, I give you this one with my most conscientious effort not to make your ears bleed, or leave you baffled or suffering from musical vertigo. The performing time time is about seven minutes.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972635 Composed by James Siddons. 20th Century,Contemporary,Ragtime,Standards. Score. 10 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #3022927. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972635). These seven short pieces were composed in the early months of 1976 as imitations of some of the composers and musical styles of the early twentieth century. They were never performed or published at the time. They are useful as didactic studies for student pianists. The seven pieces areI. Intonatione In the Whole-Tone ScaleII. Prélude and Nocturne in ModesIII. An Impression of ImpressionismIV. An Imitation of Roy HarrisV. Adding Chord-Tones While Shifting MetersVI. Ragtime BitonalityVII. Diatonic Waltz Program Notes: The Intonatione In the Whole-Tone Scale recalls the Renaissance Italian musical form that evolved into the prèlude in later organ music, as well as the use of Italian forms in the atonal music of Arnold Schoenberg, and some neo-Baroque composers of the twentieth century. In contrast, the whole-tone scale is reminiscent of generally tonal composers, including Debussy. The Martial Prèlude and Nocturne in Modes recalls the many pre-twentieth century pairings of preludes with fugues and other forms. The pairing with a nocturne evokes an air of Romanticism. The Martial Prèlude is a march-like fanfare, in Lydian mode on C. The Chopinesque Nocturne is in Phrygian mode, on E flat. An Impression of Impressionism evokes some of Debussy’s Preludes pour Piano, including a suggestive title at the bottom of the page, as Debussy himself did. For the young pianist aiming to master the works of Debussy, the arpeggio patterns, block chords, and sequential motives will prove helpful as introductory exercises. An Imitation of Roy Harris was inspired by the occasion in 1976 when James Siddons heard Roy Harris speaking in person about his compositions. Siddons was impressed by Harris’ youth in Oklahoma, and how the solidity of American rural life shaped Harris’ symphonic music. When taking questions at the end of the lecture, a young composer asked Harris about his creative methods when composing music. Well, Harris responded, You don’t pull up a potato just to see if its growing. Adding Chord-Tones While Shifting Meters is a technical exercise that is nonetheless fun to listen to, and fun to play. A student pianist should be asked to analyze the harmony in this piece, and to describe what shifts are taking place when the musical meter (as well as phrasing and rhythm patterns) change. The echoes of Stravinsky and Bartók should be apparent to the listener and pianist. Ragtime was not regarded as art music of the same caliber as Stravinsky and Schoenberg, or even Copland and Gershwin, until the 1970s. The inclusion of ragtime in these seven pieces would not have been accepted by composers of the early twentieth century, Stravinsky excepted. Ragtime Bitonality explores how such piano music might have sounded had major composers of the 1900-1920 era taken an interest in its march-like vitality. There is even a touch of atonality! In contrast to the powerful rhythms and juxtaposed tonal relations in much early twentieth-century music, there were works by many composers that continued familiar melodic patterns and balanced forms, offering musical relief in a turbulent era in music history. The Diatonic Waltz is offered here as a quiet, peaceful conclusion to our tour of musical styles in classical music of a century ago. About the Composer: James Siddons is a composer and pianist as well as musicologist. His research guide to the music of Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu was published in 2001. He then taught piano there himself from 1885 until 1918, whilst also serving as conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre until 1911.This theatre saw the premieres of the operas composed by his teacher and mentor Rimsky-Korsakov, and he was also the conductor at the Russian premiere of Wagner's opera Tristan und Isolde. In 1908, he conducted the Paris premiere of Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov. From 1918 to 1922, he was the director of the Music-drama school of Mykola Lysenko in Kiev, where, amongst others, Vladimir Horowitz was a pupil in his masterclasses. He returned to the Moscow Conservatory in 1922, teaching there until his death. Other famous pupils of his include Simon Barere, Maria Yudina and Maria Grinberg. He died in Moscow. As a pianist, he played many of the compositions of his Russian contemporaries. His compositions, which showed the influence of Frédéric Chopin and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, include a symphony, pieces for solo piano, an Allegro de Concert for piano and orchestra, and lieder. His virtuoso pieces for piano in particular are enjoying something of a renaissance in recent years. He was the uncle of Heinrich Neuhaus and first cousin, once removed of Karol Szymanowski (Felix and Karol's father, Stanislaw Szymanowski, were cousins).(Wikipedia).

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1029347 Composed by Brendan Reeves. Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. Brendan Reeves #4830769. Published by Brendan Reeves (A0.1029347). Waltz No. 10 by Brendan Reeves My favorite composer is Chopin. His influential work has inspired many composers, including myself, and this piece is in many ways a tribute to him and the Romantic style in which he composed. Its purpose is to evoke feelings of love and beauty in those who listen. When you listen to the piece, I hope you will appreciate the subtle details in the music. In addition, I hope you will feel how the music, in true Romantic style, builds to a climax and settles down again before ending. It begins sweetly in dolce as the theme of the piece is revealed. As it continues, it moves into the B section of the piece which is played con brio. After the con brio section, it goes back to the dolce before finishing. The piece finishes in a style called leggerissimamente, meaning as light as can be. The name of the piece, Waltz No. 10, is simply named for being the 10th waltz in a series of waltz’s I have composed. I hope you enjoy listening to the piece as much as I have enjoyed creating it.

Flute,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549725 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Contemporary,Multicultural,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 22 pages. Jmsgu3 #3531379. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549725). Duration: ca. 7:00, Score: 12 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano: 7 pages. An epic choice for a recital or funeral. Fauré Background: In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works: Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life: Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life: It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend. Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life: Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy: Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.

Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1408124 By Damien Gauci. By Damien Gauci. 19th Century,Classical. Full Performance. Duration 100. Damien Gauci #990694. Published by Damien Gauci (A0.1408124). This piece was inspired by Chopin's pieces 'Nocturne in C# Minor' and Prelude Op. 28, No. 4. The solemn, singing melody in the right hand is meant to be played as marked, 'cantabile'. This, along with the left hand's slow moving arpeggios with some consonant and dissonant parts creates a reflective, peaceful mood.Whilst writing this piece I wanted to focus on writing a piece in binary form, as the second half of the piece shows. I still tried to keep the melodic melody in the right hand, but the left hand changes to a waltz-like accompaniment. If I were to write this piece again, I may have explored the first part for much longer and made a nice transition into the second part.As for now, this is my last piece which I composed at an earlier time. I am now going to start working on some new fresh pieces, focusing on certain aspects of music. Thanks again, Damien.

Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1366668 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century. 17 pages. RayThompsonMusic #950991. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1366668). Debussy: Piano Preludes Bk.2 No.5 Bruyères (Heather) - symphonic wind dectetArranged double wind quintet/bassDebussy's Préludes are 24 pieces for solo piano, divided into two books of 12 preludes each. Unlike some notable collections of preludes from prior times, such as Chopin's Op. 28 preludes, or the preludes from Johann Sebastian Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, Debussy's do not follow a strict pattern of tonal centres. This is from the 2nd Book.I have arranged all of these preludes from both books:Book 1Danseuses de DelphesVoilesLes sons et le parfums…..Des pas sur le neige La fille aux cheveux de linLa Cathédral engloutieMinstrelsBk.2BruyèresGeneral LevineHommage à S.Pickwick EsqCanopeAs if by magic, we are transported to heather covered V it shows that this shepherd is a distant cousin of ‘la fille heathland with a piece much reminiscent of la Fille aux cheveux de lin’. The same calm, the same purityaux Cheveux de Lin from book one. Nature and innocence demand a spontaneous and laidback approach to those delicate and poetic riffs to match the colour and aroma of fragrant purple shrubs. Birds may be heard calling, accompanied by the distant refrain of a shepherd’s flute in this harmonious and homogeneous prelude — an admirable contrast to numbers IV and VI.In direct connection with this prelude, Marguerite Long mentions a Debussy souvenir pairing the scent of sea mist and coastal pines, and if she is correct this would take us to Arcachon in south west France. It is possible that the young composer first went there in 1880 with the baroness Nadejda Von Meck and later in 1904 when he stayed with the uncle of Emma Bardac (neÌe Moyse), his future bride. The pastoral and familiar poetry of a woodland scene where the earth’s pervasive scent mingles with the subdued display of patches in purple.— CortotA peaceful melody on a shepherd's pipe, resonating on the silent moorland. With its Celtic pentatonic structureand the same diatonic transparency, time-signature and tempo provide a clear link.— Harry Halbreich

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.1014883 Composed by Damien Gauci. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. Damien Gauci #4783383. Published by Damien Gauci (A0.1014883). This piece was inspired by Chopin's pieces 'Nocturne in C# Minor' and Prelude Op. 28, No. 4. The solemn, singing melody in the right hand is meant to be played as marked, 'cantabile'. This, along with the left hand slow moving arpeggios with some harmonious and dissonant parts creates a reflective, peaceful mood. Whilst writing this piece I wanted to focus on writing a piece in binary form, as the second half of the piece shows. I still tried to keep the melodic melody in the right hand, but the left changes to a waltz like accompaniment. If I were to write this piece again, I may have explored the first part for much longer and made a nice transition into the second part. As for now, this is my last piece which I have composed at an earlier time. I am now going to start working on some new fresh pieces, focusing on certain aspects of music. Thanks again, Damien.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1411455 Composed by Saxie Dowell. Arranged by Timothy Stapay/Liberace. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Pop,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 12 pages. Timothy Stapay #993722. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1411455). This is the song and performance that led to much of Liberace's popularity. During his early career during a mostly classical concert; an audience member shouted out a request for the then popular novelty tune, Three Little Fishies. Liberace improvised in the style of Chopin, Strauss and Liszt. The rest was 'history'. He always incorporated popular songs in a classical style in his future concerts. The song “Three Little Fishies†by Kay Kyser, with lyrics and music by Saxie Dowell, was released in 1939. It became a hit and reached the number one spot that year. This playful novelty song has delighted audiences for decades with its catchy tune and fun lyrics. Throughout the years, “Three Little Fishies†has remained a popular song, captivating the hearts of both young and old. Its jaunty melody and catchy chorus make it a delightful tune to sing along to, evoking feelings of nostalgia and happiness.

An arrangement of the timeless classic song that combines the rich harmonic palette of the jazz idiom with some keyboard techniques of the 19th century romantic composers. Performance duration is about 3 minutes 45 seconds, and a performance can be viewed at youtube.com/c/rupertaustin/videos. A six bar introduction hints at the bridge of the song before the first two verses are presented; the first with chordal writing and the second introducing some left hand arpeggios. The first appearance of the bridge stays close to the original. This is followed by two more verses where the right hand takes flight with figurations that at first outline the famous melody, before the roulades of notes lose sight of the melody and instead weave around the harmonic changes. At bar 48 the bridge reappears with the melody incorporated into a right hand figuration inspired by passages from a Chopin etude (Op. 25, No. 11). However, the much slower tempo makes this section far more approachable than Chopin's fearsome etude. At bar 56 an earlier version of the verse is repeated, which then leads to the close. A flexible tempo should be used, with generous rubato in appropriate places. In particular, bar 41 should not sound rushed and tempo can be held back significantly here. Fingering suggestions are given in many places, but these will not suit all hands. The closest attention to fingering is required in bars 48-49 and 52-54. The dynamic markings should be viewed as a rough guide and the performer is encouraged to find their own interpretation. An arrangement of the timeless classic song that combines the rich harmonic palette of the jazz idiom with some keyboard techniques of the 19th century romantic composers.
