Choral Choir,Choral,SAB Chorus - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1441810 By Tony Bennett. By Bart Howard. Arranged by Vicky Jacobs. Jazz,Standards. 4 pages. Vicky Jacobs (Glee Club) #1021795. Published by Vicky Jacobs (Glee Club) (A0.1441810). This is a fun to sing arrangement of a classic tune. It runs through once in a flowing 3/4 and then picks up the tempo and swings to the end of the arrangement. There's no scat (I've got a thing about scat and choirs - I don't love it!).

Londonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room For Daddy).<br> <br> "Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant’s Causeway.<br> <br> On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.<br> <br> There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some listeners have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.<br> <br> The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly’s intent.<br> <br> Why the name Londonderry Air? Londonderry and Derry refer to the same place, a city in the north of Ireland, and also to the surrounding county. Supposedly the city of Derry was founded by St. Colmcille, although archaeological evidence shows that people were living there thousands of years earlier. There is an excellent museum in the city, which is worth a visit if you want to find out more. The name of the city was actually "Doire", corrupted to "Derry" by people who can’t pronounce Irish. It thought to derive from an Irish root meaning "oak tree".<br> <br> Moving quickly along in history, about a millenium later the government of England was having a difficult time colonizing Ireland because of the fierce and warlike clans living there, especially in the north of the country, Ulster. The monarchs of England, almost all of whom were notorious cheapskates, were continually looking about for ingenious ways to conquer places without actually having to put up the money themselves, or run the risk of unpopularity if they lost. In the case of Ireland, some of these schemes of the "Brish gummit" (as it is termed nowadays in Ulster) are still producing unfortunate long-term consequences.<br> <br> In 1608, King James I gave the city of Derry to the City of London corporation. I guess the deal could be summed up by saying that if the City of London could figure out a way to chase all the inhabitants out of Derry, they would be allowed to keep the loot, minus a percentage for the King of course. If they lost, well too bad. In celebration of this historic agreement, the name of Derry was officially changed to Londonderry. (For further information, check out the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s History of Derry.)<br> <br> The linguistic outcome of all this today is that, if you think that King James’s deal with the City of London was a good idea, you call both the city and county "Londonderry". If you do, you are probably a supporter of the Unionist movement that seeks to keep Ulster a part of the United Kingdom. If you think it was a bad idea, you call both "Derry", and you are probably a supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause. Or you might just be someone who thinks it’s confusing for kings to be going around changing the names of places all the time for no good reason.<br> <br> You can find plenty of discussion about the political side of the question elsewhere, but here let’s look at the musical side. We have an air, collected in county Derry/Londonderry, and it doesn’t have a title. What do we call it?<br> <br> If you were a proper Victorian, there’s no way you were going to call it the Londonderry Air, much less the Derry Air, because of the improper sentiments that these titles might suggest. My parents tell me that in their youth in Australia, it was usually called the Air from County Derry. (This would, I suppose, support Winston Churchill’s theory that Australia was inhabited by "convicts and Irishmen".)<br> <br> My mother also sends the following information, referring to an arrangement of the tune by the Australian composer Percy Grainger:<br> <br> Just another note about Danny Boy, that I grew up in Australia believing to be the Air from County Derry. We were looking through some LP’s last night (back to vinyl yet!) and found a Mercury Wing Classical Favorites stereo LP SRW18060, COUNTRY GARDENS and other favorites by Percy Grainger {played by} Eastman-Rochester Pops, Frederick Fennell, conducting. The cover notes included the following: "Irish Tune from County Derry was harmonised in memory of Irish childhood friends in Australia." Considered by many to be Grainger’s masterpiece of harmonization, the tune was collected many years ago by Miss Jane Ross of New Town, Limavady, Ireland. Grainger has set it for many instrumental combinations. So there’s another variant on the name for it. It doesn’t say who wrote the notes, but the bits in quotes for each of the works on the record are Grainger’s original comments.<br> <br> The references to Londonderry Air that I’ve seen don’t go back any earlier than the late 1930s. For example, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) in February 1940. Bing Crosby’s version was recorded in July 1941 (reference). (So many different things I could check up on!) Londonderry was an important American naval base during WWII, but the US hadn’t come into the war in 1940.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1194167 By Dave Froman. By Dave Froman. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 12 pages. Dave Froman #793589. Published by Dave Froman (A0.1194167). 2021. SATB, piano, and violin / 4:30The beautiful and haunting poem Fire and Sleet and Candlelight laments a wasted life. This original piece is reminiscent of the choral standards “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child†and “Wayfaring Stranger,†evoking what I can hope are similar thrilling feelings of angst and terror for singer, conductor, and listener. Text by poet Elinor Wylie (1885-1928), born in Somerville, New Jersey. Please reach out if you would like to premiere this piece. davefroman@gmail.com.Text:For this you’ve striven  Daring, to fail:Your sky is riven  Like a tearing veil. For this, you’ve wasted  Wings of your youth;Divined, and tasted  Bitter springs of truth. From sand unslakèd  Twisted strong cords,And wandered naked  Among trysted swords. There’s a word unspoken,  A knot untied.Whatever is broken  The earth may hide. The road was jagged  Over sharp stones:Your body’s too ragged  To cover your bones. The wind scatters  Tears upon dust;Your soul’s in tatters  Where the spears thrust.Your race is ended—  See, it is run:Nothing is mended  Under the sun. Straight as an arrow  You fall to a sleepNot too narrow  And not too deep.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus divisi - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1514738 By BAHAGA Prosper. By BAHAGA Prosper. Arranged by PACIS EUSEBE NDOLI NDAHIRO. A Cappella,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 6 pages. PACIS EUSEBE NDOLI NDAHIRO #1089222. Published by PACIS EUSEBE NDOLI NDAHIRO (A0.1514738). If you want to enjoy a Stellenbosh-choir level African A Capella arrangement you've never heard of, this is the real deal for you!The story is about a man remembering a girl he was enamored with from way then in the village when they used to be young. The man describes how well-mannered and well educated she was, regrets never having had her, whishes he could stay on his natal hill and wait for her, nicknames her a Cow's tear-drop(in Burundian and Rwandan traditions, cows are the most sacred and respected of demesticated animals) and describes her gaze as the Sunset(Yasa n'irirenga). It's a beautiful story, and I was pleased to set it to music that values its depth and sense of longing, sometimes using minor versions of the melody (traditionally pentatonic) to accentuate the nostalgia and the longing he has for his Cow's tear-drop.For you all that want to pronounce the words in Kirundi well, I have added a YouTube video of a famous Burundian Singer interpreting this song. Hope it helps with the combined vowels (nk, kw, ry etc).Enjoy this one. Definitely one of my all-time favorite arrangements.

Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1410591 By Toto. By David Paich and Jeff Porcaro. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Pop,Rock. 23 pages. Derek Hasted #993012. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1410591). AFRICA (Toto) - GUITAR QUARTET/large ensembleWritten for classical guitar, also suits acoustic or electric guitarDerek Hasted writes I wanted to make this fantastic piece accessible to as many guitarists as I could. To do that, Iâ??ve moved the key down one tone to make the keys in this piece familiar ones. My arrangement will suit a mixed ability ensemble from early intermediate to intermediate. Guitar 4 has the bottom string tuned down to D, and thereâ??s a bass clef version of the same line to suit a normally tuned bass guitar or upright bass. You can have one or both lines in your performance.Iâ??ve deleted a tiny piece of repetition near the end - the words change in the original but the music doesnâ??t - as an instrumental there was too much of the same phrase! The piece finishes with a final chord instead of a fade to nothing, as it works so much better in concert. The resulting piece still runs for four and a half minutes. Thereâ??s a set of repeat marks so that the music will fit on a normal music stand without page turns.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by number of instruments, with links to soundclips and sample score.

This is Our Prayer
Piano, Voix et Guitare
Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.965763 By Lisa Waites…
(+)
Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.965763 By Lisa Waites. By Lisa Waites. Arranged by Lisa Waites. Children,Film/TV,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Score. 1 pages. Servant Song Music and Ministry #571431. Published by Servant Song Music and Ministry (A0.965763). I wrote this contemporary hymn as a musical prayer response to the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In liturgical churches, it functions beautifully as a congregational sung response following the Prayers of the People (or even replacing the Prayers of the People). In evangelical settings, it can be sung as a stand-alone worship hymn right after the sermon, or as part of a set of worship songs at the beginning or conclusion of the service. I am a prolific songwriter, and I've been writing music for 35+ years now. Through all of those years, there have only been a handful of occasions where I have felt more like a conduit of the Holy Spirit than the composer of the hymn; this was definitely one of those times. This is Our Prayer is written in the key of F Major, making it highly accessible for beginning church accompanists. It has a moderate tempo, set in a 3/4 time signature with a lilting rhythm. The vocal range is designed for robust congregational singing. The melody line is just one octave, ranging from Middle C to the C above it; the Alto line is just a six note range, from Middle C to the A above. This score includes the piano accompaniment in a strophic, hymn style format, two-part vocal harmony, and guitar chords (which can also assist pianists who play by chord + melody line, instead of by reading the score). The simplicity of this hymn does not detract from its' beauty, however. This is a highly singable, memorable tune with some interesting rhythmic patterns. The lyrics of this hymn are loosely based on Romans 12:12-21 (As far as it depends upon you, live at peace with all people). The words of the hymn are truly a prayer, asking God for peace, but they also remind us that as people of faith, we are invited to participate WITH God in the process of making peace on earth, by how we pray, live, give, and place our trust in God. One lyric reads that we dare to pray for peace; this is an intentional choice on my part, flagging the potential costliness of becoming people who prioritize peace. The week this hymn was released to Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music Unlimited, Reverbnation, and Deezer, it debuted at #30 on the Top 100 Contemporary Christian Music Charts on Spotify. The YouTube video version of the hymn (link attached below) was viewed over 7,000 times in the first ten days, by people in over 40 countries. You are welcome to stream it for worship services, on church websites, and on social media. The more people view it, the more ad revenue it will generate, and all profits from the sale of this hymn in any form (video ad revenue, digital MP3 sales on the sites listed above, and the sale of this musical score) will be donated to the Red Cross and the United Church of Canada's Mission & Service Fund; both of these registered charities have targeted programs running to assist Ukrainians who've been displaced by the war. Once the Ukrainian war ends, I will continue to send all profits from the hymn to those same charities to help refugees in other conflict zones. May this hymn comfort and discomfort you. My prayer is that it will prompt all of us to live more faithfully as people of peace - in our individual lives, but also in our families, in our communities, our nations, and our world. To God be the glory!

"The Dog Had..." Variations

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1290458 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Romantic Period. 35 pages. Head and Stem #881172. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1290458). BACKSTORY ON “The Dog Had…†Variations The origin of “The Dog Had…†Variations†stems from a frantic voicemail received from the composer’s mother-in-law many years ago while on a visit exclaiming that our dog at the time, Pepper, a chocolate-brown and white springer spaniel, “HAD†an accident of explosive proportions on their basement rug and that we needed to “GET HOME†and deal with it immediately. At first the family was taken aback by the phone message, but ultimately it became a source of hilarity and shortly afterward, the composer’s wife created a rhyme from the message and a tune immediately sprung from that. This tune simply became something our family sung together periodically over many year’s time for amusement until now when the composer came up with the idea to set it to variations for string quartet. In this work, the tune is first heard in simple fashion in its entirety in the viola. Fragments of the tune follow in various guises. For example, the rhythm of the words “GET HOME†as well as “I’VE HAD IT†are prominent thematic ideas used in the piece. There are also a couple of moments where the music sounds weak and demented, but also places where it sounds like a domestic quarrel and the theme is further broken down into fragments. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.
