This collection contains 10 praise choruses notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. For each song, there is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate score for each instrument. A note and chord reference chart is also provided for each song. To aid in the learning and teaching of these songs or for use with other instruments (such as a Ukulele), chord names are included on each Boomwhackers® staff and score. Lyrics are also provided on each score for sing along enjoyment or when using these arrangements as the accompaniment for a unison choir.This set of scores uses colored noteheads corresponding to the Boomwhackers® color scheme.  If you have a set of bells or tubes with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the instruments match the Boomwhackers® color scheme. Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are full color and easier to distinguish (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter and eighth rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. All sharps and flats are displayed as well (shown in the key of C); a helpful reminder for beginning musicians.The number of ringers and whackers needed for each song will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one note to each person. They are suitable for mezzo soprano and could also be sung by tenor voice an octave lower. They are among some of the most popular folk songs of Wales and sure to be well received at a vocal recital. They would also make excellent encore pieces. For copyright reasons, English translations are not provided, although some are to be found on various web pages. 1. Y Ddau Farch (The Two Mares) The song tells the story of two horses. The older one tells the younger, “In my day I was as good a horse as youâ€. But when I became too old to work, I was sent away to the mountains. She vows never to return to her cruel owners. This is an example of a macaronic song in which the lyrics use more than one language. 2. Si Hei Lwli, ’Mabi (Sleep, my Lovely Baby) In this pentatonic lullaby, a mother tells her child that their ship is moving away, the captain is on board, the eastern wind is blowing and the seagull is on its nest. 3. Canu Cwnsela (Wassail Song) The singers ask permission to come in and sing for their dinner. But they seem to have chosen the wrong house because the reply is: “I have no dinner or money to spend, to give you a welcome tonight.†The melody is in the Dorian Mode. 4. Robin Ddiog (Lazy Robin) The song, also in the Aeolian mode is about a robin whose little house is always tidy. “Open the door a little bit, so that I can see the sea and the waves†he asks. When the door is opened, the breeze sweeps away all the leaves from the floor. 5. Migildi Magildi “When the smithy’s door is open, we can see the blacksmith working.†The song describes the sights and sounds of the blacksmith’s workshop.You can hear all the songs in the audio demo, though they are played by an oboe rather than sung.

This piece was commissioned by Annette Saarinen for her granddaughter Aurora, who happens to be studying chemistry (among other things) so she can pursue her goals of working on environmental restoration.Composing a song that is a gift for a friend's granddaughter is fraught with a number of perils, particularly when one of the inspirations is that the recipient of the song likes Adele tunes. Adele's songs are mostly romantic songs about lost or unrequited love, so the lyrics couldn't really come across as being FROM the grandmother.Knowing that Aurora is studying chemistry, however, gave me a clue as to how I could make the piece work nicely: make it sound like a love song about the chemistry between two people, when in fact, the lyrics are talking about how our use of chemistry is both responsible for the state of our environment and the means we must use to fix it.I did use my usual trick of starting with words or names, and have composed both Aurora and Chemistry into the notes of the piece, the former in the accompaniment, and the latter as the foundation for the verse melody.Duration: 3m54s.

Some know it as Chestnuts Roasted On An Open Fire or Merry Christmas to You. The melody is absolutely beautiful, and the chord changes super interesting. I especially like Nat King Cole's version, which is in Db major. To make it easier for intermediate piano players I wrote my piano solo arrangement in C major instead. It is still challenging  enough.The sheet music will be available for purchase at 2pm Chicago time on Nov 27.About The ArrangementThe arrangement is written in jazz ballade style. It doesn't swing. I includes a fun double time improvisation section though which I made up on the spot during the second B section when I recorded the song. It is in latin style. The arrangement can be performed with or without improvisation. Should you be a jazz pianist you could use the included chord symbols to make up your own improvisation.About The Sheet MusicThe sheet music is the exact transcription of my recording, including the improvisation part. (You can listen to it and see me perform in the video below.)The sheet music contains jazz chord symbols and plentiful of articulations as well as some dynamic markings. How This Arrangement Came AboutMay arrangement is heavily based on the Nat King Cole version. I love the ballade feel and the beautiful chord substitutions he uses in the orchestration. First I simply played along with his version in Db major. This helped me to figure out the harmony. Next I start thinking about the accompaniment. Now it is time to practice it. Once I have the arrangement figured out I start recording it a few times, listen to each version, iron out the edges. Now it is time to record the entire thing. Recommendations For Learning The SongI recommend that you first listen to my performance while reading along in the sheet music. I always think about fingering and sustain pedal use at the same time when learning a song. Smart use of the sustain pedal can really make it much easier to play.Is This Arrangement For You?This solo piano arrangement is for every pianist who loves The Christmas Song. It doesn't matter would kind of pianist you are. The arrangement is certainly for intermediate pianists and up. It is also beneficial when you don't have very small hands. Some chords in the left hand require a hand span of a 10th. However, there are ways to get around that by simply rolling the notes with the help of the sustain pedal.

This inspired him to compose the words and music for the song, Estrellita (Star of Love/Little Star/Petit Astre/Stellina). The text ‘Star from far away, you know about my love and my suffering…’ has been speculated by many that these lyrics are Ponce’s sentimental expressions for his beloved Mexico as a little star… ‘Because I cannot live without his love.’ Or, it is widely held that the lovely melody of Estrellita came to Ponce in a moment of inspiration while spending a romantic evening with his wife… either scenario could be true. In 1923 violinist Jascha Heifetz was in Mexico City and realized he didn’t have any work by a Mexican composer on his program. While in a café, he heard a local musician sing the popular song Estrellita and noted its title on a napkin. Estrellita became one of his favorite encore songs ever since. Scored for solo violin, tenor and piano this trio runs 2:59.

It was used in the 1980 film Urban Cowboy and appeared on both the Urban Cowboy soundtrack album for that film, as well as on the Anne Murray's Greatest Hits compilation album, issued in late 1980. Later on, it also appeared on Murray's 2007 album Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends, performed as a duet with Amy Grant.As a single, it was released in August 1980 and became Murray's fifth number one country hit as a solo artist. This song started out as an Andean folk melody that Paul Simon came across in 1969 when he played a week-long engagement at a theater in Paris along with the South American group Los Incas, who played an instrumental version of the song called Paso Del Condor. Said Simon: I used to hang around every night to hear them play that. I loved it and I would play it all the time, and then I thought, Let's put words to it.The Peruvian songwriter Daniel Robles recorded this song in 1913, and copyrighted it in the United States in 1933 during his travels in America. When Simon recorded it with his added lyrics, he thought it was a traditional song, as that's what Los Incas told him. When Robles' son filed a lawsuit, Simon had to give Robles a composer credit on the song, with his estate getting those royalties.In discussing the song, Simon always talks about it as being based on a traditional Peruvian song, and we've never heard him mention Robles. This wasn't the first time Simon got tangled over songwriting credits on traditional melodies: Simon & Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair / Canticle was based on a folk song, but his arrangement came from a singer named Martin Carthy. Simon was always clear on his influences, but legal misunderstandings were a problem in these cases.Los Incas, who were the group that introduced Simon to the song, provided the instrumentation when they recorded it in Paris with Simon. Their leader, Jorge Milchberg, played a charango, which is an Andean string instrument made from the shell of an armadillo. Simon played acoustic guitar, and other members of Los Incas played flutes and percussion. When Simon brought the track to America, he added his lyrics. This was one of the easier songs to record for the Bridge Over Troubled Water album, since the backing track was already mixed together - it was just a matter of adding the vocals.The title translates to English as The Condor Passes. The lyrics Robles wrote to the song in 1913 are about returning home to his native Peru.Los Incas leader Jorge Milchberg got a composer credit on this song along with Simon and Robles. Milchberg later became the head of the group Urubamba and remained friends with Simon, who toured with them and produced their first American album. >>The Wainwright Sisters covered this for their 2015 Songs in the Dark album. Lucy Wainwright Roche explained to The Sun: I chose 'El Condor Pasa' because it was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on it guitar and it has a childlike quality to it, but it also has a darkness and sadness that fit in well with the album.Paul Simon performed this on both Sesame Street (in 1977) and The Muppet Show (in 1980).
