Double Bass,String Bass Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869156 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Individual part. 44 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #31067. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869156). I received an email from Joel Quarrington in 2011 with a request to buy a score and a set of parts to Hylidae … The Tree Frogs (1991) for violin, double bass and piano. He said he would like to perform the work at the next International Society of Bassists convention in Rochester, New York. I told him That is great. But it’s such an old work. Why don’t I write something new for you? He said, How much would a commission cost? I said, Let me write the piece first and if you like it, we can talk about a fee then. I began work on Toccata for Double Bass and Piano in late August and completed it on October 15. I sent Joel the music as a PDF and MIDI file via email. He wrote back, The piece looks really terrific and I have enjoyed listening to it as well, thanks for the midi file. I couldn’t be happier! Toccata is in three movements, fast-slow-fast, with internal ABA ternary forms in the first and last movements - also fast-slow-fast. Moderato … Trio … A tempo. Adagio. Allegro … Trio … Reprise! The first movement begins with a driving dotted-note motif in the double bass accompanied by an insistent sixteenth-note bass-line in the piano left hand and a soaring quarter-note melody in the piano right hand. A Trio follows which features a lyric melody in the double bass … molto cantabile! The double bass returns this time stealing the sixteenth-note bass-line motif from the piano left hand. The double bass pushes the music forward relentlessly and ferociously … holding no prisoners! To add counterpoint to this madness, the piano comes back with the quarter-note melody but in octaves this time. The left hand joins the melee occasionally to push the music forward until it reaches its climax at the conclusion. The second movement, Adagio, is a slow waltz. The mournful tune is delivered by the double bass at first, then it’s passed on to the piano, and it goes back and forth between the two. The third movement is a 6/8 romp, very syncopated and jazzy. The music goes back and forth between the double bass and piano, not unlike when the musicians in a jazz combo trade four’s among each other. An adagio Trio follows. The tune is in the double bass: long descending lines over a languid piano accompaniment. To complete the ABA format, the music from the beginning of this movement returns as a reprise. ENJOY!!! Commissioned by Joel Quarrington for a premiere performance at the 2013 International Society of Bassists Convention at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Easy Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1079924 Composed by Robert E. Benton, Jr. Children,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual,Traditional. Score. 5 pages. Robert E. Benton, Jr. #684142. Published by Robert E. Benton, Jr. (A0.1079924). This hymn recounts many of the metaphorical invitations that Christ made to come to the Father through Him, as recorded in the gospel of John, where Jesus introduces each passage by saying “I AM…â€, echoing God’s self-revealed name, YHWH, from Exodus 3:13-15 (note that YHWH is often transcribed into English using all capital letters “LORD†or alternatively in some versions as “Jehovahâ€). The chorus places each of Jesus’ “I AM†statements in the context of the LORD’s voice from heaven at the mount of transfiguration, as recorded in Matthew 17, which declares the Father’s love for his Son and commands us to listen to Him. Many attempt to deal with Christ as merely a great teacher, but do we listen to what this great teacher has taught? In full obedience to the command to listen to Christ, we should consider what he has said about himself, including at His betrayal in the garden where he says “I AM He... I told you... I AM He!†The composer has arranged this version of hymn for elementary piano with an alternate teacher’s duet. Full lyrics are available as a benefit to the entire family. Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.983990 Composed by Steven H. Boothe. Arranged by Ashley Ivers. Christian,Pop. Score. 7 pages. Boothe Publishing #4360789. Published by Boothe Publishing (A0.983990). 1st Kings 19: Verses 11 & 12When Elijah the Prophet of God killed all the false prophets of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, the Queen promised to kill him by sundown the next day. He fled for his life and ran for 40 days and 40 nights all the way to Mount Horeb, the mount of God. When he arrived, the Lord asked him what he was doing there. When he explained it to the Lord, the Lord told him to go stand out upon the mountain before Him. And behold the Lord passed by and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; But the Lord was not in the wind: And after the wind an earthquake; But the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; But the Lord was not in the fire: And after the fire a still small voice. God wasn't in the mighty wind. God wasn't in the terrible earthquake. God wasn't in the fire. God was the still small voice. That is where I can find Him still. That is what makes me responsible for my actions. I have the still small voice telling me what is right and what is wrong. It is called, the light of Christ. It is revelation from God. I can try to drown it out and pretend I don't hear it. However, pretending doesn't alter the fact that God's still small voice is always there for those who will listen.

Mixed voices (STTTBarB) - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q42747 (The I Tatti Madrigals). Composed by Gavin Bryars. Choral Music of Our Time. Downloadable, Choral score. Schott Music - Digital #Q42747. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q42747). Italian. The choice of 16th century texts, by Bronzino and Battiferri, reflects the interests of the dedicatee of these sonnets - Craig Hugh Smyth, a fine art historian and former director of the Villa I Tatti, who was a specialist in Bronzino and Pontormo. Bronzino's sonnet is a lament on the death of Pontormo, his teacher; Laura Battiferri's poem is a direct response to that of Bronzino. As I was also asked to set sonnets by Petrarca, I chose two of his closely linked sonnets, numbers 229 and 230 in the Rime Sparse. I had written a work for I Tatti some five years earlier setting Petrarca (A qualunque animale, the first in my Fourth Book of Madrigals) and was familiar with the context. However, through correspondence with Kathryn Bosi, Music Librarian at I Tatti and, through her, Craig Smyth's family, I became increasingly aware of his unusual and quite special character. From his undergraduate days at Princeton and indeed throughout his life, although a great scholar and writer, he was at the same time an aficionado of jazz, loving above all Louis Armstrong, being photographed with Duke Ellington, taking his children to see Thelonious Monk, listening to Ben Webster and playing the tenor saxophone himself. Indeed, he had told Kathryn Bosi that he had been proud to walk in procession at the funerals of black musicians in New Orleans. In some ways his life was almost an obverse mirror image of parts of my own - I was a professional jazz musician but found myself teaching art history for a time. As Fiorella Superbi of I Tatti has said: Craig was a maestro di vita. I raise a glass in his memory and dedicate these sonnets to him. Gavin Bryars.

Kevin G. Pace #1063117. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.1486060). A beautiful, sacred hymn with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Kathryn W. Hales.Text:The Great Sacrifice (based on Alma 34 in the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ) The Law of Moses long foretold,The coming of a Messiah Lord,The Son of God who would pay the priceThrough His redeeming sacrifice. Through this gift, infinite and great,We come to Him with love and faith. On the cross He justice paid,And fulfilled all cov’nants made. No sacrifice of beast or fowl,No human offering can or shall,Bring redemption’s healing grace,Or lead us to the Savior’s face. Only Jesus Christ the Lord,Only in the power of His word,Can He in mercy offer all,The ransom needed for the Fall. What little sacrifice is mineThat I may connect with God divine?A humble spirit, a broken heart,Are what He asks to be my part. One cup of water, one piece of bread,Remembering Jesus, whose blood was shed,In the Garden so long ago, Overcoming all death, and woe. CodaThanks to our merciful Eternal GodFor His sacrifice, infinite and great.

Thomas Oboe Lee #15879. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869356). Instrumentation: 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 English horn, 2 bassoons, 2 French horns, timpani and strings.Program note: In the year 2010, my wife Kristin Beckwith and I went to Paris twice, the first time in May and the second time in December right after Christmas. The weather was magnificent in May. Our friends Seph and Roger met us there. Being long-time veterans of Paris, they took us all over the city: Le Marais, the Left Bank, Montmartre, Sacré Coeur, Père LaChaise cemetery, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Jardin du Luxembourg, Jardin des Tuileries, Notre Dame cathedral, Eiffel Tower, the flea market at Porte de Clignancourt, the canal at Saint Martin, etc. Since the weather was so great we basically stayed outside the entire two weeks. My wife Kris said that we had to return next again to Paris to go inside the museums. So we did. The weather in Paris after Christmas was very damp and chilly. So we did indoor activities: Le Louvre, Musée D’Orsay, Palais Garnier, etc. We even attended a beautiful performance of Swan Lake by the Paris Opera Ballet at L’Opéra Bastille. I should also mention that on both occasions I met up with a former student of mine from Berklee, Joe Makholm. He makes a living in Paris playing jazz piano. Joe got us a gig at the Swan Bar in Montparnasse. On the first occasion we did it as a trio with a French bass player. I played flute. On the second occasion, we did it as a duo. Playing jazz in Paris? You can’t beat that!!! Early this year, Steven Lipsitt and I had a chat about my writing a new work for the Boston Classical Orchestra. My last work for the BCO was a piano concerto with Robert Levin as soloist. I told Steven that this time I wanted to write a symphony. He said, Sure. Go ahead. I told him it would be about Paris. He said he would put Mozart’s Paris Symphony on the same program. I said, Fabulous! Symphony No. 8 … City of Light (2011) is in five movements. 1. La Seine Presto, Moderato 2. Basilique du Sacré-Coeur Largo 3. Palais Garnier Allegro, Trio 4. Avenue des Champs-Élysées Allegro 5. Musée du Louvre Largo, Moderato This work is dedicated to my wife and muse, Kristin Beckwith. Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1300258 By Barry Manilow. By Barry Manilow and Martin Panzer. Arranged by Unimusic Academy. Contemporary,Pop,Rock,Singer/Songwriter. Score. 3 pages. Unimusic Academy (Academia Unimusica) #890000. Published by Unimusic Academy (Academia Unimusica) (A0.1300258). Even Now is a 1978 song by American adult contemporary and pop music singer Barry Manilow. It is the title track from his 1978 album, and Manilow wrote the music and co-produced the track with Ron Dante. The words were written by Marty Panzer.Released as the second single from the album, Even Now became a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1978, peaking at No. 19.[1] It became Manilow's ninth song to reach number one on the Billboard easy listening chart, spending three weeks atop the chart beginning May 27, 1978.[2]Billboard described Even Now as one of Manilow's classiest efforts.[3] Cash Box said that Barry reaches shivering moments.[4] Record World called it an emotional, sen-timental ballad in [Manilow's] trademark style.[5]In his autobiography Sweet Life, Manilow said that the song was one of my personal favorites, which never fails to move me. It reminded me of the great times I had collaborating with Marty Panzer, with whom the singer had worked previously. The lyrics of this song describe the remorse and regret felt by the lyricist over leaving a woman with whom he had a great relationship with for a much better life with a different woman, even though his instincts told him that it wasn't the right move to make. Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.1069964 Composed by Steven H. Boothe. Children,Pop,Sacred. Accompaniment. Duration 215. Boothe Publishing #4633683. Published by Boothe Publishing (A0.1069964). Fourteen year old Joseph Smith went into a grove of trees to pray and ask God for help to know which church was true, and which one he should join. God and His son Jesus Christ appeared to him and spoke to him face to face. With the appearance of God and His son to the boy Joseph Smith, there was once again a prophet on the earth. This event came to be called the first vision. This vision proved to Joseph Smith that God is not dead. God and His son Jesus Christ are alive and love us today. They have not left us alone here in the world to work out our own salvation. The greatest teachers and preachers of our times cannot save us for they are subject to death. Only Jesus Christ could and did break the bands of death. God talks to us today through His prophets. He does not speak to us through those who say He is gone and has left them in charge. The only way to find truth about God is to study His doctrine and then talk with Him. Ask Him if what you are learning is true. With 4,300 Christian religions on the earth today, we can know through revelation from God which is His true church. There can be only one. God told Joseph that He had a great work for him to do. God sent an angel who revealed to Joseph plates of gold. These plates of Gold were records kept by Israelite prophets in ancient America. God brought them to this land of promise before the Jews were carried away captive into Babylon. I know this is true. You can read the Book of Mormon. You can ask God for yourself if it is true. Then you too can know, for God will answer your prayer.

Then you too can know, for God will answer your prayer.

Focus on Grace ... A concerto for jazz saxophone and orchestra (2010)

Small Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869266 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 73 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #2019061. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869266). Instrumentation: Alto sax solo and orchestra, 2222-4231-perc-drum set-strings Program note. Maestro Max Hobart called me in the spring of 2009 and told me to check out this young jazz phenom on the saxophone named Grace Kelly. I said OK, that’s cool. That summer we went to the Regatta Bar in Harvard Square to hear her play with her band, and I was duly impressed by her musicality, soulfulness and chops. Max asked if I would be interested in writing a concerto for her and the Wellesley Symphony. I said, Sure. It sounds like a great idea. One of the most cherished jazz records in my vast collection is the collaboration between Stan Getz and Eddie Sauter entitled Focus. Eddie, who used to be an arranger for the Benny Goodman Band in the forties, went on to create the Sauter Finegan Band in the early fifties. The band was one of the first to include the piccolo, oboe, bassoon, harp, celesta, French horn, tuba, xylophone, glockenspiel, chimes, timpani, and other unusual symphonic instruments in the standard big band format of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm section of piano, bass and drum set. On the album Focus Eddie Sauter composed seven tracks of music for string orchestra and rhythm section. Stan Getz did not have a written part - he just improvised over the written music. If you are not familiar with this recording, then you will do yourself a huge favor if you go find it and add it to your own CD collection. The music is phenomenal and Stan is on top of his game, soaring above the strings with endless melodic inventions, flights of imagination and whimsy! It is one of those desert island CDs one should not be without. When I emailed Grace about this project and mentioned Stan Getz’s Focus, she said, It’s one of my favorite albums. So, we got off on a positive note immediately. My work, Focus on Grace … Concerto for Jazz Saxophone and Orchestra, is very much inspired both by the Stan Getz album and by the performances I heard of Grace and her band. The first movement is based on a funk groove in D minor: Grace’s part is initially written-out but she improvises freely in the coda. The second movement is a boss nova: as in the Stan Getz album, Grace does not have a written part but improvises over a set of chord changes provided by the orchestra. The third and last movement is an Afro-Cuban groove in six-eight: Grace has a written melody at first but soon launches into improvisation on a 12-bar blues in F. She ends the concerto in a free cadenza to show off her virtuosity and saxophone chops. ENJOY!!!

In the past 6 years he has commissioned me to write two works for his ensemble, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra: 1) Mambo!!! I said, Yes. I would be delighted to do so. He told me that the subject for this work would be Boston’s own landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. Sure, I said, why not? Charles told me he had a poet in mind who would provide the text, Nancy Stevenson. I said, Great! The work is in four parts, following Ms. Stevenson’s poetic design. I wrote a marching music in Part One depicting Mr. Olmsted when as a child he walked from his home to his aunts and uncles who lived far away. As a young man, Mr. Olmsted went through many jobs until he decided that as a landscape architect he could make cities a better place for children and adults alike. The mayor of Boston hired him to do just that, to make Boston more livable. In Part Two, I wrote presto music depicting the dredging of the Charles River and the planting of trees along its shores. In Part Three, the text describes the Boston Emerald Necklace – the paths that lead from the Fens to the Arboretum to Franklin Park. For this section I chose music that is bucolic and pastoral, a setting that evokes the country side with a flock of sheep, complete with a shepherd and his dog. In the last section the text describes Mr. Olmsted’s dream that in his parks there would be tranquility and rest to the mind … a place where the rich and the poor would play together. The music returns to the legato march that began the work.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. ‘Is that you kids?’ It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship… You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you know—them pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For …he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

JMJ Arrangements #685705. Published by JMJ Arrangements (A0.1081583). [W]hile [Joseph and Mary] were there, the time came for her to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, 'Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!' When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, 'Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.' And they went with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they saw it they made known the saying which had been told them concerning this child; and all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. (Luke 2:6-20 RSV-CE).

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1143904 Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Religious. Octavo. 37 pages. Studio at the Post #744209. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1143904). Duration: 16 minutes, 33 pp. Description: Exodus is a great story that belongs to everyone. Not only is it central to Judaism, not only is it integral to the Christian Bible, it is an immortal story that has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to oppressed peoples everywhere on this planet. It is relevant not just as ancient scripture but as living text, to be rediscovered by each new generation of an ever-widening Family of Man. The theme of struggle against oppression and slavery was just as relevant to the early Christians persecuted in Ancient Rome as it was relevant to the American Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, just as relevant to the Soviet Jews wishing to emigrate as it is to the South African Blacks resisting Apartheid. From the Dark Ages and the Spanish Inquisition, to Ghandi's emancipation of India, to the Holocaust, to, full-circle, the ongoing struggles in Palestine today, the story of Exodus is a guiding light in a dim and often grim world. According to the composer: The Story of a Leader is a collection of ‘re-chorales’ I created one summer when I was totally immersed in a post-educational obsession with the 371 Chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach. We used to study these to learn the rules of harmony and voice-leading (no parallel fifths, avoid crossed voices, etc.) at the Cleveland Institute of Music where I began my compositional career. That summer, now a professor of music in my own right, I discovered many broken and bent rules by the master himself and, along with the glory of being able to work through these Chorales myself at the piano, I felt an incredible feeling of liberation and possibilities unmediated by instructors of music theory. I began by stripping away all that Bach wrote, leaving only the hymn tunes which were not his to begin with. These tunes existed long before Bach used them for his tonal experiments, some attributed to Martin Luther, or someone else, others simply listed as ‘anonymous’. The same is true for the texts, which were then translated into English mostly in the 19th century (the provenance of each can be found herein on the first page of each of my reharmonizations). In some cases I modified the text to fit the context. I selected 12 of these ‘re-chorales,’ linking them together based on their texts in a kind of logic that worked for me, and created a narrative that told The Story of a Leader (Moses). This story is highlighted in the music with such techniques as cross-modal harmonies, points of imitation, a beer drinking song in one instance, and in another, to symbolize the parting of the seas for Moses’ people, an inversion of the soprano line in the bass..

Piano Solo - Early Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Louis Landon. Spiritual, New Age. Sheet Music Single. 7 pages. Published by Landon Creative, Inc.
Healing Hearts 2<br> Louis Landon<br> 2015 / Landon Creative<br> 66 minutes<br> Review by Kathy Parsons<br> Louis Landon continues to soar on the wings of an amazingly creative period - now going on several years! Healing Hearts 2 is the follow-up to Healing Hearts, which was released the end of 2014 and is nominated for Album of the Year on Whisperings Solo Piano Radio. This is Landon’s second album for 2015 and he’s already working on his first release for 2016! The fourteen tracks on Healing Hearts 2 were gathered from improvisations created during sessions at Landon’s Healing Piano of Sedona (AZ), so the piano solos are very smooth and soothing - probably the most relaxed and relaxing album of Landon’s career. Recorded on a Steinway B grand piano at The Peace Palace in Sedona and mastered by Joe Bongiorno at Piano Haven, also in Sedona, the piano sound is impeccable - very warm and enveloping. Landon told me that this is the best music he never wrote, referring to the fact that the music just flows out of him during these sessions, reflective of each client’s wants and needs at the time of the session.<br> <br> The full Healing Hearts 2 album is a little more than an hour of quietly uplifting music and works exceptionally well as a relaxing and healing experience. I’d like to mention a few favorite pieces, though. The album begins with “Sisters,” a very gentle piece that expresses the love and special bond that can exist between sisters. Very light and free, it’s a beautiful start. “Free At Last” starts out almost mournfully - dark and searching - gradually becoming livelier and more optimistic. It’s an amazing musical journey and development! “Relax and Enjoy” expresses the warm comfort of just letting go and “being” for awhile - leisurely and contented. “Feeling the Love” is so warm and open that it feels like a musical embrace - melodic yet very free. “All Is Well” is almost ambient, but what a wonderful atmosphere of quiet contentment it creates - a perfect peace. “Transition” is like floating on a cloud - effortless and so peaceful. “Dark Nights” is one of the most beautiful pieces Landon has recorded. It reminds me a little bit of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” and some of Chopin’s Nocturnes - so poignant and heartfelt that it takes my breath away. The gracefully flowing “Dancer” expresses freedom and elegant movement. “Lullaby” closes this excellent album with a piece so soothing it could melt the tension out of anyone. Gorgeous!<br> <br> If you are looking for music that will relax and refresh your inner being, you need to look no further than Healing Hearts 2. This is the real deal when it comes to soothing piano music with substance and heart. It is available from louislandon.com, Amazon, iTunes, and CD Baby. My first season with the Oregon Symphony was 1962-1963. I was so excited when I was told that I was accepted into the Portland Symphony (now Oregon Symphony), I danced and jumped up and down. I can still see myself. Its was like winning the Powerball. I was only 17 years old. What is equally amazing is that 45 years later I retired from a career that very few people can ever experience. I was bass trombonist my first year in the Oregon Symphony and was principal trombonist my third year. I also traveled with the New York Metropolitan Opera National company for 84 weeks as principal trombonist and was bass trombonist of the Portland Opera for 18 years. I played in the Peter Britt Orchestra for two seasons and also in the Anchorage, AK. music festival. I was a scholarship winner to Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass. and the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. I was privileged to perform with Leopold Stowkowski and Erik Leinsdorf. None of this would have been possible without my early training with the Portland, Youth Philharmonic under the leadership of maestro Jacob Avshalomov.<br> <br> I have met many famous people and have played the world's greatest music. The Oregon Symphony music directors and conductors have been magnificent and have each brought many special talents to the orchestra. I remember special concerts featuring Jack Benny, Danny Kaye, Isaac Stern, Leonard Rose, and many others.<br> <br> During my time in the Oregon Symphony I developed a hobby of making batons for some of the conductors who visited our orchestra. Most recently, I made batons for Itzhak Perlman, James DePreist, Carlos Kalmar, Riccardo Mutti, Murry Sidlin, Hannu Lintu, Karel Mark Chichon,<br> <br> Andre Watts, and many others.<br> <br> Since establishing the Alan Pierce Piano Service in 1976, I have tuned pianos for the Oregon Symphony, Andre Watts, Lawrence Leighton Smith, James DePreist, Murry Sidlin, Norman Leyden as well as for many churches, schools and prominent piano teachers. Most recently I tuned the piano in the home of world famous Janet Guggenheim. One of my most special memories was an all expense paid trip to Scottsdale, Arizona to tune the piano of a prominent surgeon. While in Arizona, I had the chance to spend time with the late James DePreist who had a home in the area. For two summers, I also served as piano technician for the Sunriver Music Festival I am currently the president of the Reno chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild. <br> <br> Most recently I got to meet Geoge Curran, bass trombonist of the New York Philharmonic. My wife and I traveled two times to hear him perform my Romanza and Scherzo for bass trombone and piano. What a thrill to hear a world famous trombonist perform my music. I am very honored that George Curran recorded my music on his latest CD. (Vital Signs)My first season with the Oregon Symphony was 1962-1963.
