Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. ‘Is that you kids?’ It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship… You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you know—them pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For …he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Digital Download SKU: A0.843718 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Debbie Warren. Folk,Traditional. Octavo. 7 pages. Keep Calm and Keep Singing #450402. Published by Keep Calm and Keep Singing (A0.843718). A fishing song from the North East of England, this became popular as the theme tune to 1970’s TV show When the Boat Comes In. However, there is also another melody (in the minor key) also believed to originate from the North East but which was collected by Cecil Sharp in Berkshire. I have combined both melodies giving one to the sops and the other to the altos. Each section then forms an ostinato accompaniment while the other is singing the tune. These “Dance†“Sing†notes although written as dotted minims are to be performed short and light – like bells. The song also works best with a slight northern accent – particularly the short northern ‘a’ vowel on the word Dance and in the phrase “When the boat comes inâ€. NB Although this is written for 4 parts the second alto is optional and the arrangement works just as well without it for SSA choirs. FREE resources are available (backing track, teach tracks) just email keepcalmkeepsinging@gmail.com with proof of purchase Easy Level Duration: 3'30.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1023644 Composed by Ben Ledochowski. 20th Century,Contemporary,New Age. Score. 12 pages. Ben Ledochowski #6217585. Published by Ben Ledochowski (A0.1023644). The Dreaming Sea was my first paid composition commission, a piece I wrote in April 2020. For the composition commission, my author friend Sterling Wisniewski requested me to score a short story of his, with the score I provided being expected to tell the story of the words through music and accompany original artwork. His short story is included as follows:A cardboard boat sifts the surface of the sea. A little girl, eyes closed, arms wide and crowned with a paper hat, stands at the front of the deck. Unsinkable - that's what she was. Her imagination bounced the boat on the tension of theworld, almost like it wasn't there. Her eyes were closed, yet she saw everything. On shore, a crowd of dirty sailors went about their work. Nasty mouths swore and harsh fists carried their cargo to their strong, dirty boat. A boy, no taller than a barrel, was in the midst of the buff shoulders and fit forearms. He peaked between the muscle mountains. He saw her. Eyes closed and arms wide, sailing away from the Sun and into the appearing Moon. The wind flapped her hair like the sail of a boat. The boy pried between the men and ran to the end of the dock, stuck his flat hand over his forehead to see. The boy could've sworn that she saw him. He could've sworn the boat swooped in a foot from his face. He could've sworn he heard her giggle. If anything, he thought he knew she saw him.The boy's father, the largest of all the men, wearing a real sailor's hat, gripped the boy's shoulder, spun him away from view of the cardboard boat, and without a word dragged him to the solid wooden ship in front of them. The robust crew pulled ropes and pushed out to set sail towards the setting Sun in the west. The boy soon slipped out of his father's grip and ran to the edge of the boat. Standing on his tiptoes, he hovered his eyes over the dock. There she was - eyes closed and arms wide, the wind flowing through her hair while her cardboard boat skipped the seas like a stone. he could've sworn she was thinking about him. he could've sworn he would see her again. He could've&n.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465850 Composed by James F. Linzey and William H. Monk. 21st Century,Chamber,Christian,Classical,Religious. 4 pages. Military Bible Association #1044448. Published by Military Bible Association (A0.1465850). The History of the Four Immortal Chaplains and the United States Army HymnDuring World War II, four Army chaplains met at the Army Chaplains School at Harvard University. ere, they received training for their assignments in the European theater. They then boarded and sailed on the United States Army Transport (USAT) Dorchester to report to their new assignments. The USAT Dorchester left New York on January 23, 1943, en route to Greenland. She carried about 900 military personnel and was escorted by Coast Guard Cutters Tampa, Escanaba, and Comanche. During the early morning hours of February 3, 1943, the vessel was torpedoed by the German submarine U-223 off Newfoundland in the North Atlantic. As the Dorchester sank on that fateful day of February 3, 1943, the four Army chaplains on board helped their soldiers board lifeboats as they handed out life jackets. When they ran out of life jackets, the chaplains gave their own life jackets to four soldiers that they might live. Then the chaplains joined arms and prayed as they went down with the Dorchester. These were young chaplains, new to the Army, holding the rank of first lieutenant. They included Methodist minister Reverend George L. Fox, Reform Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Catholic priest Father John P. Washington, and Reformed Church in America minister Reverend Clark V. Poling. e four chaplains were posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. Chaplain (MAJ) James F. Linzey, USA (Ret.), who was one of four military chaplains in his family, composed the United States Army Hymn, “Eternal Father, Hear Our Prayer,” in remembrance of the “Four Immortal Chaplains” on board the Dorchester. Also, James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1229673 By Ed Sheeran. By Aaron Dessner and Ed Sheeran. Arranged by Barry McCormick. Pop,Singer/Songwriter. Score. 4 pages. B. McCormick #825438. Published by B. McCormick (A0.1229673). Elevate your performance with Ed Sheeran's Boat sheet music from his highly anticipated album Subtract. Get Ed Sheeran's Boat sheet music today! Notes about the music This digital sheet music includes the melody on a separate stave, a piano accompaniment, and a short intro, making it perfect for piano instrumentalists, singers, and small groups. To make this piece more accessible I have arranged it in the key of G Major which is a third below the recorded version which is in B Major. This makes the higher notes more attainable to sing for a more people and makes it easier to play for most. Who likes playing with 5 sharps?! Structure In this arrangement there is a slight variation from the structure from the Subtract Recording. As mentioned above a short intro is included which is the melody from the end of the chorus. After this the repeats and D.S markings will follow the form as heard on the recording. On the final chorus rather than playing the bass as written and played for the previous occurrences just playing simple sustained root notes of the chord to bring it all back and give the melody some space for the last time through, this would emulate the feeling in the recording. Melody As with all my arrangements, to try an minimise the number of pages needed, the small note heads in brackets indicate where the melody is different when repeated and these notes should be played/sung on the appropriate verse. The melismatic phrase on boat at the end of bar 37 is a simplification of what is sung on the recording and the performer is free to amend as it suits them. Piano The piano follows a simple chordal harmony and rhythm, the most complicated coming on the final page but this is simply the chord broken up in a way to give more momentum to this section. If you would like a version where the melody is in the right hand of the piano I also have an arrangement of this as a piano reduction which combines the melody with the right hand of the piano part here with some modifications for playability. Alternatives. I have different versions of this piece which may suit different performers/instrumentalists more. All my versions are: Voice Piano and Guitar - Melody on its own stave with guitar chords above it and a piano accompaniment underneath; Voice Piano and Guitar - As above but the melody is combined with the right hand of the piano part; Guitar Lead Sheet - Melody with guitar chords; Ukulele Lead Sheet - Melody with Ukulele chords.

Concert band - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CBW205-S Composed by Judith Katz. Score. 15 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CBW205-S. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CBW205-S). 9 x 12 in inches.Long before the tragic sinking of the Medusa, was the sinking of the French ship, The Medusa. The frigate Medusa was completed in 1806, launched in 1810, and saw action in the Napoleonic wars. In 1816, it set sail from French to its ultimate location in Senegal to repossess it from the British. Along with cargo, there were almost 400 people on board. What no one knew, however, was that there was an incompetent captain on board with dubious skills. The ship was caught in a storm off the coast of Mauritania. After being damaged from hitting rocks and multiple attempts to relaunch it, it couldn't move. Soon, it was discovered that there was a shortage of lifeboats. Most of the crew and some of the passengers made their way to the lifeboats, saving about 250 people. That left about 149 others on board. Crew members left on board scrambled to build a raft for the others. The raft was launched and tied to one of the lifeboats. The hope was that everyone would make it to land, almost 60 miles away. The horror came, when the captain ordered the raft to be cut loose, claiming, that it was slowing everyone else down. That left the raft survivors to their own devices.Multiple days at sea brought on starvation, death and disease. People starved to death, and acts of desperation came about, such as the weak, but alive, being thrown overboard, and even cannibalism. Many days later, when survivors were finally rescued, there were only 15 people left alive, with 5 of them dying soon afterwards. News of the disaster quickly reached France, where both the government and the people were thoroughly outraged. Newspapers covered the disaster, and eventually there were trials prosecuting the captain and the crew for negligence. This can be considered as the first documented sea disaster. In 1818, 27 year- old Theodore Gericault was so moved by this disaster, that he painted his masterpiece, The Raft of The Medusa. To this day, the painting, which is enormous in size and almost the size of the raft itself, hangs in the Louvre. This is my first attempt at program music. It was my hope that I captured the mood, the feeling, and above all, in all good program music, that my composition told the story.

Many people spend their leisure time at the lake. Â Some spend the time on shore and others venture out in their boat. Â Spending time on the lake is a great way to shed the thoughts and worries of life, at least for a little while, and just relax. Â This piece attempts to capture the serenity of a peaceful day on the lake. The total duration is about 4 minutes. In addition to the excellent review in 2001 issue of The American String Teacher Journal, this piece was selected, through national competition, for performance at the Living Composers Concert held in Wisconsin in 2005. Contains the score and a full set of parts. Â ASCAP.

Arranged by Maria Thompson Corley. 21st Century,Chamber,Sacred,Spiritual,Traditional. 9 pages. Maria Thompson Corley #875686. Published by Maria Thompson Corley (A0.1284511). “Crossing Jordan†grew out of my daughter Kiana’s surprise request that I arrange a spiritual for voice, piano and cello for her senior recital. She received a degree in commercial music the year before COVID shut everything down, at a time before climate change made blizzards an anomaly here in Central PA. As a result, snow days still existed. I spent one of them doing the first draft of “Deep River,†her favorite.Later, I decided that if singers engage a cellist for a concert, they might like to program more than one piece for them, so I chose two more water-themed spirituals to complete the set. “His Name So Sweet†is a more meditative version of the song than I’ve generally heard. I wanted the piano, cello, and briefly the voice to imitate the fountain in the text. The mood is ecstasy, resulting from the fundamental change that baptism is meant to create. “Deep River†also includes “Michael Row The Boat Ashore†and “The Water Is Wide.†The latter isn’t a spiritual, however, taken together the message is that the river is deep, the water is wide, but with (the Archangel?) Michael’s help, Jordan can be crossed. “Wade in the Water†is one of the most well-known spirituals. I focus on the idea of escaping enslavement: the opening is quiet, furtive, maybe even nervous. The Moses in the text can be understood to be Harriet Tubman, who might urge escapees to wade in the water so pursuing dogs couldn’t follow their scent. In my mind, the ending symbolizes that the party has vanished, never to be enslaved again. The first instrumental version of “Deep River†was for trumpet and piano, performed by my sister, Alicia Thompson, and her son, Justin Griffin, during a church service in Atlanta shortly after I arranged it. After hearing a recording, I took borrowed her idea of adding a repeat (which she did to allow enough time for the ushers to take up collection). The clarinet, cello and piano version was premiered by the Isosceles Trio (Doris Hall-Gulati (clarinet), Sara Male (cello), and me (piano)).

Skye refers to the Island of Skye, a large island off the northwest coast os Scotland. There are several texts to this song; all refer, more or less, to an uprising of Scottish dissidents against the English is 1745-46. After their defeat, they fled to the Island of Skye. The text used here by the poet Robert Louis Stevenson. Scholars attribute the first half of the melody to an old se chantey and suspect thea the second half may have benn written by Annie MacLeod. Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797336). Playing in a harp ensemble is bliss! Continuing in the tradition of Nancy Hurrell’s other ensemble books, these arrangements for mixed level groups are fun for everyone. The tunes are from Scotland and Ireland, and include a duet, and three-part and four-part ensembles. There are also seven great solos. In addition to the usual toe-tapping Scottish reels, the arrangements use melodic patterns to suggest ripples in the sea (Aran Boat Song), fluttering wings (The Butterfly), and jingling coins (Little Donald of the Sweets). There’s a wonderful range of styles from ancient harmonies to traditional Carolan to jazzy reels. These arrangements have multi-level parts so everyone can join in and play together. Solos are Loch Gamhna, Cliffs of Moher,The Birken Tree, Captain Campbell, Eilean Beag Donn a’Chuain, Little Brown Island in the Ocean (D. Morrison), The High Reel, George Brabazon, Second Air (Turlough O’Carolan). John Ivor Holland #977871. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1394389). Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat is a song written by Frank Loesser and introduced in the Broadway musical, 'Guys and Dolls', which opened at the 46th Street Theatre on November 24, 1950. In the context of the show, gambler Nicely-Nicely Johnson invents a dream about being saved from hell in order to bring together the members of the prayer meeting. It was originally performed on stage by Stubby Kaye who later reprised his role as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in the 1953 London production, as well as the 1955 film version. In popular culture, the song was performed in the pilot episode of the show 'Glee' in 2009, and then redone in the season 3 finale, Goodbye as well as making appearances on various TV shows and films. When performed on-stage, it's usual that this is the song that gets multiple encores, so get ready to potentially play it several times in a concert!

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.747073 Composed by Herbert L. Clarke. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Traditional. 40 pages. Keith Terrett #6199053. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.747073). The Maid of the Mist in an arrangement for solo Cornet (Trumpet, Flugel, Baritone, Euphonium TC) & Wind Dectet of a fun light piece creating a great showpiece for the cornet. It is named after the sight-seeing boats for tourists in Niagara Falls. Set as a polka, there is much opportunity for the soloist to display quick fingers and light triple tonguing. To create a clean new edition, dynamics and articulations were made more consistent in the parts. Counter melodies were added to enhance the arrangement.American composer and Cornet player Herbert L. Clarke was one of the first soloists to combine a pyrotechnic technique with a lush, romantic sound. His virtuoso-with-a-heart' style set the standard for Cornet (and later Trumpet) players for the next several generations. He, along with Jean Baptiste Arban and Frank Simon, is considered to be one of the finest Cornetists in history. Many of Clarke's compositions are still regularly performed, including: 'The Maid of the Mist', 'Sounds of the Hudson', 'The Bride of the Waves', 'Stars in a Velvety Sky', 'From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific', 'The Debutante and Southern Cross'. 'The Maid of the Mist' was composed ca. 1912 and is one of about 50 pieces Clarke wrote to display his virtuosity in concerts. 'Maid of the Mist' is the name of a tourist boat that visitors to Niagara Falls can ride to view the falls up-close.

The pace begins slowly and builds to a huge climax with many vocal parts singing at the same time at the height of the race. Challenging but very fun to perform with an emotional ride throughout. The conductor has the freedom to interpret tempos as he likes. Enjoy this very unique piece. I've performed this for my church a number of times and each time the song has been received with extreme enthusiasm.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.879214 Composed by Dennis Frayne. Arranged by Dennis Frayne. Folk,Holiday,Patriotic,Spiritual,Standards. Score. 4 pages. Presto! It's Music Magic Publishing #6022305. Published by Presto! It's Music Magic Publishing (A0.879214). Michael, Row the Boat Ashore is an African-American Spiritual, written by slaves when they were fighting for and winning their freedom from slavery during the American Civil War. This song has been written here three times, each with the same melody, but each using notes from a different scale. Musicians refer to songs using different scales as being in different keys. First, the song is written using notes from the C Major Scale. Second, the song is written using notes from the D Major Scale. Third, the song is written using notes from the E Major Scale. When we write the same song using notes from different scales, or in different keys, we call that transposing the music. When a song transitions from one key to another key, we call that a key change, or a modulation. Includes lyrics and solfege syllables. Written using letter names, perfect for students who are learning to navigate the piano keyboard prior to reading standard music notation.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1407293 Composed by Russian Folk. Arranged by Paul Taylor. Folk,Historic,Multicultural,Standards,World. Score. 2 pages. Paul Taylor #989970. Published by Paul Taylor (A0.1407293). This popular work song from Russian folk history has been used to depict hard work in movies, cartoons and plays. Here it is presented for the early intermediate pianist. The sailors on the boat can be heard singing their song of work, very softly as the boat approaches the people on the land. As the boat gets closer, the dynamics increase in intensity and as the boat passes away, the dynamics decrease to reflect the passing of the ship. Some pedalling and phrasing suggestions are given as well.

Mezzo-soprano voice and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8460-3E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. Secular, 21st century. 3 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8460-3E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8460-3E). English. The poetry of Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) is especially appealing due to the wide range of topics, diversity of mood and peculiar imagination of the poet. The writings are reflective, passionate, witty, sensuous, observant, and ridiculously humorous. Her heart soars. Her mind pokes fun! Emily was truly a New Englander. Her poems are understated and compact. Her love of Nature focuses on small things- birds, bees, meadows and a pond.In creating the musical settings, the composer (herself a New Englander) endeavored to capture the spirit of the poetry, and of the poet, with songs diverse in style, and concise in form. Everything from romance to frogs is explored, briefly.Great delight is taken in creating musical translations of the colorful imagery: the letters floating off on the breeze (My Letter to the World); the shimmering moonlight (The Moon and the Sea); a frog croaking in a bog (The Frog in the Bog); hopeful birds hopping about (Hope with Feathers); the boat of passion riding the waves and then settling into its mooring (Passion); the ship's cannon firing in celebration (Joy); and the tiniest, lightest gifts of Nature (All I Have to Bring). These are the poet's Letters to the World. She lived as a recluse, yet her words took flight-traveling the universe as messengers of the soul. Duration: 14:00.
