Three Nocturnes for Flute (or Violin) And Piano - Opus 16

Instrumental Duet,Piano Flute,Instrumental Duet,Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.918711 Composed by Daniel Carr. 20th Century,Contemporary,Video Game. Score and parts. 44 pages. Daniel Carr #30875. Published by Daniel Carr (A0.918711). The Three Nocturnes are highly impressionistic in nature, they depict three progressing times of night: dusk, midnight and dawn. The first movement contains a harp-like piano accompaniment over which the flute sings – generally light and free. Near the end, as midnight approaches, the music grows darker in character. The second movement has a concentrated, quiet intensity -- more whisper than scream. It is primitive and trance-like. The flute plays without vibrato – sounding almost like an ancient wooden flute. The third and final movement depicts dawn as the sun bursts upon the horizon, shining on the flowers and trees that had been hidden by darkness of night. It is a joyful and dancing movement, with a capricious middle section suggesting children chasing fireflies through a dense forest which the sun has not yet penetrated. Both the first and third Nocturnes make extensive use of the highest register of the flute.

A peak of mystery married to a beautiful spectacle that lights up the night sky. In Midnight is a wonderful piece for any occasion the piece is written in D minor and creates a cinematic, haunting and siren ambiance. A call to the moon a star of the night. Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.966750 Composed by Dillon Ekle. 20th Century,Christian,Easter,Sacred. Score and parts. 9 pages. Dillon Ekle #3068399. Published by Dillon Ekle (A0.966750). This original composition takes its inspiration from Vespers, an evening service of prayer. The piece begins with a brooding bass rhythm, which underlies much of the composition, as melodies depict images of the evening sun's procession toward the horizon. At the moment of the sun's setting, a grand hymn emerges, the emotional high point of the journey as the fires of creation illuminates the world in God's glory, before cooling into a final reprise of the initial melody as the darkness of night settles in.While not an actual setting of the text, the original hymn-like melody in this piece is inspired by the ancient prayer called Phos Hilaron (O Gladsome Light), one of the earliest Christian hymns. This piece, written for piano duet (1-piano, 4-hands), is appropriate for concerts, or as a prelude or other instrumental moment in a church service, especially evening services. While it is not specific to any season, the mood is also appropriate for services in Advent, Lent, Holy Week, or other times of reflection.Melodies move throughout the range of the piano and across both players. Both parts are of similar difficulty, and neither part is more featured than the other; a musical performance will require a strong sense of ensemble. An audio preview accompanied by images and the Phos Hilaron text which inspired part of this piece can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK0NAl15juUThe PDF file is formatted to be printed double-sided. Once printed and bound, odd numbered pages (including the cover page) should be on the right (where the primo player sits), and even numbered pages should be on the left (where the secondo player sits). Alternatively, if two pianos are being used, the file can be printed single-sided and the parts separated out; the primo player will have the odd numbered pages, and the secondo player will have the even numbered pages.

(A0.976510). The Nocturne is an expedition into almost forgotten memories with overtones of hope as well as resignation and melancholia. It has been described as the feeling one has on a cold winters’ day when the sun almost shines for a brief moment, then is gone forever into the frozen darkness of night, never to return. Originally written with orchestral accompaniment as the second movement of the Piano Concerto #2 in C minor, this arrangement for solo piano was made at the request of Joanna Ezrin, pianist and pedagogue, and has been recognized at the MTAC annual convention in 2007.

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808993 Composed by Paolo Coggiola. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 51 pages. Preludio s.r.l. #6258361. Published by Preludio s.r.l. (A0.808993). Three Urban Nocturnes, for alto saxophone and piano, explores the sensual and perhaps even a little criminal side that the saxophone has in the author's imagination, evoking a night walk in a great contemporary city. Moving from mysterious sounds that introduce us to a dark atmosphere in the first song, Black Friars, we are introduced in two bright pages that could be two tributes to the female universe: the first, Lady Roxana, with smooth, elegant and finally affectionate sounds ; the second, Sex Sade, which does not hide a paroxysmal and virtuosic pleasure in writing, thanks to the safe conduct of the night. Like other recent pieces by the author, it is a suite of pieces that expresses an evident choice of field in a proudly neo-romantic key.SCORE and PARTS available.

Published by Christopher Watson (A0.913391). An original composition for solo piano. Nocturne is in a Romantic style and suitable for intermediate to advanced study and solo concert performance. The following describes the inspiration for the piece: 'Nocturne was inspired by recent late-night strolls through Venice, the rippling light on the canals, the intrigue of each twist and turn when the city is in darkness. The city of Vivaldi, a city of a thousand church bells'. The central section of the piece quotes the famous melody from Movement No.2 of Vivaldi's 'Winter' from the Four Seasons.

Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.1008374 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Arkady Leytush. 20th Century. Score and parts. 24 pages. Arkady Leytush #4849775. Published by Arkady Leytush (A0.1008374). Estampes (Engravings) is the title of the triptych of three pieces which Debussy put together in 1903. The first complete performance was given on 9 January 1904 in the Salle Erard, Paris, by the young Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes, who was already emerging as the prime interpreter of the new French music of Debussy and Ravel. The first two pieces were completed in 1903, but the third derives from an earlier group of pieces from 1894, collectively titled Images, which remained unpublished until 60 years after Debussy’s death, when they were printed as Images (oubliées). Estampes marks an expansion of Debussy’s keyboard style: he was apparently spurred to fuse neo-Lisztian technique with a sensitive, impressionistic pictorial impulse under the impact of discovering Ravel’s Jeux d’eau, published in 1902. The opening movement, ‘Pagodes’, is Debussy’s first pianistic evocation of the Orient and is essentially a fixed contemplation of its object, as in a Chinese print. This static impression is partly caused by Debussy’s use of long pedal-points, partly by his almost constant preoccupation with pentatonic melodies which subvert the sense of harmonic movement. He uses such pentatonic fragments in many different ways: in delicate arabesques, in two-part counterpoint, in canon, harmonized in fourths and fifths and as an underpinning for pattering, gamelan-like ostinato writing. Altogether the piece reflects the decisive impression made on him by hearing Javanese and Cambodian musicians at the 1889 Paris Exposition, which he had striven for years to incorporate effectively in music. In its final bars the music begins to dissolve into elaborate filigree.Just as ‘Pagodes’ was his first Oriental piece, so ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ was the first of Debussy’s evocations of Spain-that preternatural embodiment of an ‘imaginary Andalusia’ which would inspire Manuel de Falla, the native Spaniard, to go back to his country and create a true modern Spanish music based on Debussyan principles. Debussy’s personal acquaintance with Spain was virtually non-existent (he had spent a day just over the border at San Sebastian) and it is possible that one model for the piece was Ravel’s Habanera. Yet he wrote of this piece (to his friend Pierre Louÿs, to whom it was dedicated), ‘if this isn’t the music they play in Granada, so much the worse for Granada!’-and there is no debate about the absolute authenticity of Debussy’s use of Spanish idioms here. Falla himself pronounced it ‘characteristically Spanish in every detail’. ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ is founded on an ostinato that echoes the rhythm of the habanera and is present almost throughout. Beginning and ending in almost complete silence, this dark nocturne of warm summer nights builds powerfully to its climaxes. The melodic material ranges from a doleful Moorish chant with a distinctly oriental character to a stamping, vivacious dance-measure, taking in brief suggestions of guitar strumming and perfumed Impressionist haze. There is even a hint of castanets near the end. The piece fades out in a coda that seems to distil all the melancholy of the Moorish theme and a last few distant chords of the guitar. ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ is based on the children’s song ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’ (We shan’t go to the woods): its original 1894 form was in fact entitled Quelques aspects de ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’. The two versions are really two distinct treatments of the same set of ideas, but in ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ Estampes the earlier piece has been entirely rethought. The whole conception is more impressionistic, and subtilized. The teeming semiquaver motion is more all-pervasive, the tunes (for Debussy has added a second children’s song for treatment, ‘Do, do, l’enfant do’) more elusive and tinged sometimes with melancholy or nostalgia. The ending of the piece is entirely new. What it loses, perha.

Piano Solo - Early Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Louis Landon. Spiritual, New Age. Sheet Music Single. 7 pages. Published by Landon Creative, Inc.
Healing Hearts 2
Louis Landon
2015 / Landon Creative
66 minutes
Review by Kathy Parsons
Louis Landon continues to soar on the wings of an amazingly creative period - now going on several years! Healing Hearts 2 is the follow-up to Healing Hearts, which was released the end of 2014 and is nominated for Album of the Year on Whisperings Solo Piano Radio. This is Landon’s second album for 2015 and he’s already working on his first release for 2016! The fourteen tracks on Healing Hearts 2 were gathered from improvisations created during sessions at Landon’s Healing Piano of Sedona (AZ), so the piano solos are very smooth and soothing - probably the most relaxed and relaxing album of Landon’s career. Recorded on a Steinway B grand piano at The Peace Palace in Sedona and mastered by Joe Bongiorno at Piano Haven, also in Sedona, the piano sound is impeccable - very warm and enveloping. Landon told me that this is the best music he never wrote, referring to the fact that the music just flows out of him during these sessions, reflective of each client’s wants and needs at the time of the session.

The full Healing Hearts 2 album is a little more than an hour of quietly uplifting music and works exceptionally well as a relaxing and healing experience. I’d like to mention a few favorite pieces, though. The album begins with “Sisters,” a very gentle piece that expresses the love and special bond that can exist between sisters. Very light and free, it’s a beautiful start. “Free At Last” starts out almost mournfully - dark and searching - gradually becoming livelier and more optimistic. It’s an amazing musical journey and development! “Relax and Enjoy” expresses the warm comfort of just letting go and “being” for awhile - leisurely and contented. “Feeling the Love” is so warm and open that it feels like a musical embrace - melodic yet very free. “All Is Well” is almost ambient, but what a wonderful atmosphere of quiet contentment it creates - a perfect peace. “Transition” is like floating on a cloud - effortless and so peaceful. “Dark Nights” is one of the most beautiful pieces Landon has recorded. It reminds me a little bit of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” and some of Chopin’s Nocturnes - so poignant and heartfelt that it takes my breath away. The gracefully flowing “Dancer” expresses freedom and elegant movement. “Lullaby” closes this excellent album with a piece so soothing it could melt the tension out of anyone. Gorgeous!

If you are looking for music that will relax and refresh your inner being, you need to look no further than Healing Hearts 2. This is the real deal when it comes to soothing piano music with substance and heart. It is available from louislandon.com, Amazon, iTunes, and CD Baby. Highly recommended!
November 1, 2015

Recorded at The Peace Palace, Sedona, AZ, from November 2015 to February 2016. on a Steinway B.

Music mastering: Joe Bongiorno at Piano Haven Studio, Sedona, AZ

Louis Landon is a composer and Steinway artist. Formerly of New York and currently living in Sedona, Arizona, Louis has dedicated his life to music.
