Scenes of Singapore is a collection of 89 short piano pieces highlighting scenes of life in Singapore. The intent of this is similar to Edvard Grieg's Lyric Pieces, where he composed 66 short pieces with nationalistic sentiments. The difficulty of the pieces ranges from Intermediate to Advanced Intermediate.Each piece in the suite is fashioned after one of Singapore's constituencies from the 2015 General Election. From each constituency, I have taken the first letter from its name and given the piece a title to reflect the identity of the area there. The music was then composed around that particular identity. The entire suite was composed in 2019 over a period of about 4 months and because it was not on time for National Day, I only officially released the suite in early August 2020 instead. Excepting the Overture, the work is divided into five movements. The form and structure of each movement all relate to the story basis. The roles and music themes are as follows: First: Liao Tain-Ding: The composer created two themes a and b, to express both Liao Tain-Ding’s heroically tragic character and also his humorous character. Please see below: Second: A young lady humiliated by the Japanese Police: Although the young lady is not played as a heroine, she is significant here. She symbolizes the experiences and fates of Taiwanese citizens during the colonial period. For example c: 　 The work begins with an Overture by developing subjects a and c, to imply the fate of hero Liao Tain-Ding and what he has gone through. 　　 　　1st Movement: Night Lane in Ta Tao Cheng / 2nd Movement: The Japanese Mansion / 3rd Movement: Festival at the Hsia Hai Cheng Huang Temple / 4th Movement: Tamshui Riverside / 5th Movement: Martyrdom ※In May 1979, The dance of Legend of Taiwan-Orchestral Suite of Chivalrous Liao Tain-Ding arranged by Huai-ming Lin, was premiered by the National Taiwan Junior College of Art Orchestra, conducted by the composer Shui-long Ma, recorded by the Yun-de Company, and was premiered at the Taiwan National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.

This is a suite that has 6 movement for solo piano. This composition is an intermediate level work that can be played in any concert setting. I chose the title, Morning Walk in the Garden because the piece has a pastoral like melody with soft accompaniment. I chose the title, Galloping through the Blooming Meadow has staccato Alberti bass accompaniment style with a fanfare like melody. I chose the title, Stream flowing through the Autumn Forest because the tempo never changes throughout and there are no longer pauses in the movement. I chose the title, Exploring the Wonderous Mountain Valley because it has a fanfare like melody with a march like accompaniment that's resent throughout the movement. I chose the title, Voyaging the Harmonious Lake at Sunset because of the slow singable melody with a very soft and simple accompaniment. I chose the title, Observing the Gorgeous Sky while Hiking because of the bouncy rhythm going on in the accompaniment and the light cheerful melody played throughout. The 5 ensemble parts serve as accompaniment to the vocals, and the Trombone 1 part has a more individual role in answering the vocals. None of the five trombone choir parts are very difficult, though the 4th part is a bit rhythmically persistent throughout. The key signature may pose a slight challenge for younger players. The higher vocal sub parts are rather taxing in the high range for sustained phrasingFlexibility: This arrangement will work in multiple contexts. A 5-part ensemble can accompany a vocal ensemble, or a full 8-part trombone choir is possible. The Bass Trombone part is well suited to be played by Tuba if desired. Additionally, this entire arrangement conforms to the original artist’s recording in Key and Form. One of the Masterpieces of Chinese Music of 20th Century The magnificent cave art at Dunhuang, in Western China sets the stage for the ballet, “Dream of Dunhuangâ€. In the middle of the vast wastes of Western China, lies the oasis of Dunhuang, situated in today‘s Gansu Province. Since the Western Han Dynasty(202BC-8AC), Dunhuang was an important trading and cultural center on the famous “Silk Road’, the ribbon of communication which fostered the historic ties between East and West. In the East was China, source of treasured trading articles such as silk; in the West, the â€road“ branched to Venice, and north to what is today‘s Russia. The mural led caves at Dunhuang, which were begun the Northern Wei dynasty(336AD), and developed over one thousand years into the Qing Dynasty, re presents one of the world‘s richest cultural treasures. Drawing on bothn Western(Indian and Persian) as well as Chinese tradition, the caves, of which 492 remain intact, were decorated as a mines of religious devotion, with the initiation of Buddhism into China. The subjects of the murals, such as devise, demons, apsaras and bodhisattvas, represent the entire pantheon of Buddhist mythology, yet are also significant in their representation of muti-racial and muti-cultural influences, standing as an important testament to the age old exchange between East and West. A fabricated fantasia, the story of the ballet was inspirited by the famous artist, maestro Chang Shu-hong, who dedicated his whole life to Dunhuang. One of the Huang An-lun‘s major compositions with the play written by Xu Qing-dong, the score of “Dream of Dunhuang†was completed in mid-1979. The ballet has been dedicated to the composer‘s closest friends, Canadian writers John Fraser and Elizabeth MacCallun. Up to the date this CD being released, the ballet has never got a chance to performed in mainland China. Nevertheless, its music has been wildly performed and warmly received around the world. The Singapore premiere of its suite No.1 was performed by the SSO, conducted by Maestro Lim Yao. It has been also chosen as one of the “Master Piece of Chinese Music in 20th Century†in 1993. The world premiere of the complete ballet was performed successfully by the Russian State Ballet of Moscow, directed by its artist director, Vyatcheslav Godeyev, in 1994. Choreographed by Chen Min, it was took place in Taiwan with the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro David C.H.Chen. In 2002, ROI of Hong Kong has released the CD of the whole ballet, performed by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of Moscow. This is also the audio file attached. Before this recording conducted by the composer himself, the entire score was also performed by the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra of Moscow in1995. The YouTube video was the World Premiere in Taiwan by the Russia National Ballet with the Taiwan symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Chen in 1994. The ballet, “ Dream of Dunhuang†depicts two young artists seeking the ultimate experience in love and expression. This two lovers arrived at desert and with the guidance of the celestial maiden, they discover the miracles of Dunhuang. ISBN 9790203705642.Die Suite ist in erster Linie sehr gut als Ensembleliteratur fur den Musikschulunterricht der Mittelstufe geeignet. Fingertechnisch nicht zu anspruchsvoll werden die Hauptschwierigkeiten wie auch der grosste Anreiz beim Erarbeiten die kraftvollen Rhythmen besonders im zweiten und dritten Satz sein. Zeitgenossische Spieltechniken werden nur im dritten Satz verlangt (Sopranino: Spielen mit Luftgerauschen, Alt und Bass: Sputato, gleichzeitiges Singen und Spielen derselben Melodie). Da aber diese grossflachig und ohne schnelle Wechsel auftreten, durften sie auch gut fur in experimenteller Musik nicht geubte Spieler ausfuhrbar sein. Die Komposition hat eine sehr personliche Tonsprache mit folkloristischem Einschlag. Die Melodien sind eingangig, fast konnte man von Ohrwurm-Tendenzen sprechen. Hinter den sieben Bergen macht sicher viel Spass beim Einstudieren und Spielen.

It then moves to the B section at bar 33. The B section is a highlight of the piece with a strong melody and compelling harmonies.
