The original technical study composed by Frederic Chopin is considered one of the most difficult classical solo piano pieces due to the insistence on the weaker fingers playing chromatic scales. This arrangement captures the entire original work in a duet format to allow less advanced players to easily perform the signature piece. The treble player's right hands are dedicated in playing the chromatic scale that gives the song its signature sounds with semiquaver notes dedicated to the left hand. The base clef player is dedicated to performing the much less advanced base chords of the original study. This arrangement is of intermediate difficulty for the treble player and beginner difficulty for the base player.

We are proud to have brought them back into the light again to stand out as the great studies they are. Here is what Charlie Vernon, a student of William Hill has to say about these studies: When I look back on my time with Mr. Hill, 95% of all lessons that I had with him were spent studying music fundamentals from Arban, Schlossberg and Bordogni. Along with those studies we also spent time working on the basic flexibility exercises, which we now have as the Versatility Studies. I am so thankful for his insistence on the importance of the basics because that way of teaching has become the way I practice and teach all my lessons. He was a great inspiration to all of his students, and with these old books I hope to help many players who will use them and become better players and teachers.

Thomas Marvin Hatley (April 3, 1905 – August 23, 1986), professionally known simply as Marvin Hatley, was an American film composer and musical director, best known for his work for the Hal Roach studio from 1929 until 1940.Hatley wrote many of the musical cues appearing in the Our Gang, Laurel and Hardy, and Charley Chase films. His most memorable composition is Dance of the Cuckoos[1] (also known as Ku-Ku, or The Cookoo Song),[2] which serves as Laurel and Hardy's theme song. He was also the player piano (performing off-screen) in The Music Box (1932). His work in Laurel and Hardy's films Way Out West and Block-Heads earned him nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Score.[3]In 1939, Hatley was fired from the Roach studio. At the insistence of Stan Laurel, however, he did return to score one final Laurel & Hardy film, Saps at Sea. Hatley went on to become a lounge pianist, and often remarked that he earned more money in that career than during his days at the Roach studio.Marvin Hatley was a native of Reed, Oklahoma. He died on August 23, 1986 in Hollywood, California.

This land singing for string quartet by Haydn Reeder: program note This piece which runs for seven and a half minutes was completed in 2013. There are two elements in this work which represent interests that can be heard in other compositions of mine. The first is an interest in Australian Aboriginal chanting and this is heard in the opening and closing melodies played by the cello. It seems to influence other parts of the piece, there being quite a lot of melodic writing. It can also be felt in the Postlude. The second interest is in birdsong. However, the relevant section which occurs some way into the piece has its origins in flight formations, in this case the way a flock lands. Here, each of the higher instruments plays similar material independently. Gestures of a more aggressive nature usually featuring tremolo are introduced, developed and subsequently recede, providing a background to wide-ranging melodic lines. The Postlude, with its insistence on accumulating chords by means of slow upbeats produces a dream-like atmosphere to close the work. H.R.
