Piano,Viola - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1032818 Composed by Daniell Mattern. Contemporary. Score and part. 58 pages. Daniell Mattern #5721229. Published by Daniell Mattern (A0.1032818). Sonata in a Simple Scale for Viola and PianoThe Simple Scale of the title is a series of alternating whole steps and half steps. There are three versions; any particular note will belong to two of the three. Thus, the two scales that include C go up either a whole step from C (C D Eb F F#…) or a half step (C C# D# E F#…); the third scale excludes C entirely (B C# D E F…). These scales allow for a variety of melodies, which often take on a modal character, and familiar chords, including major, minor, and diminished.Although the scale is simple, the Sonata is not for elementary players. The viola range goes to the C two octaves above middle C and there are occasional double and triple stops and stopped harmonics, and frequent meter changes. Also, the unusual scale does not fit the standard fingering patterns for either instrument. That said, the sonata is intended to be enjoyable for proficient, rather than virtuosic, players. In the introduction to the Sonata-Allegro movement, the viola explores motives and intervals, with subtle embellishment from the piano. These phrases build to a three-octave descending presentation of the simple scale; a trill then leads into the main theme. The piano sets up a jaunty accompaniment pattern, over which the viola plays the theme in measure-long segments. The second theme is a long, legato line in the viola that spans two octaves. The viola then sets up a two-measure ostinato, joined by a lumbering piano bass, before the piano treble floats on top with a melancholy closing theme. The development section plays mostly with the main theme, shifting meters as the two instruments engage in dialog. A bridging trill takes us into the recapitulation, but now the viola plays the jaunty accompaniment pattern, and the piano has the main theme. After the return of the second theme, varied in its accompaniment, the piano presents the ostinato of the closing theme, and the viola takes the melody, leading to a quiet and playful finish. In the second movement (Song), the piano begins a slow, rather dark theme, joined by the viola, and ending in a rising question that leads into the second section. Presented simply by the viola, this lilting 7/8 theme has a folk-song quality. It is repeated and embellished several times before the first theme returns, ending in a loud and angry exclamation. The Scherzo is a 6/8 whirlwind. The viola presents rapid repeated notes punctuated with three rising or falling notes; the piano enters gradually until both are giving a forceful statement. In the middle section, the viola sets up a whirling pattern with a drone, while the piano plays a dark version of the closing theme from the first movement. The first theme returns and the movement gallops to a rapid finish. The Rondo begins with an introduction that explores octaves and trills, leading into the main theme, with slightly dissonant 4/4 viola measures alternating with 7/8 answers in the piano. Bridging measures in 5/8 take us into a relaxed, waltz-like interlude of solo viola. A fast section with a touch of fugato follows, with the main theme presented in diminution by the viola at the end. This leads into a second interlude, this one exploring octaves, trills, and clusters in unmetered fragments that the instrumentalists play at their own tempos. The viola then emerges with a confident new theme, joined after a while by the piano. The main theme then returns in a rollicking 3/4 version that brings the piece to a close.

Violin and orchestra - Digital Download Completed and orchestrated after the sketches of Debussy by Robert Orledge. Composed by Robert Orledge and Claude Debussy (1862-1918). Arranged by Robert Orledge. This edition: vocal/piano score. Violin Library. Downloadable. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q46518. Published by Schott Music - Digital
The Belgian violinist, Eugene Ysaye (1858-1931), with his impressive blend of virtuosity and poetry, was a great admirer of the young Debussy's music who led the Paris premiere of his only string quartet in December 1893. In September 1892, Debussy was planning an American tour with the financial support of Prince Andre Poniatowski that was to include his 'nearly completed three Scenes au crepuscule', inspired by the Symbolist poetry of his friend Henri de Regnier. He made 'extensive revisions' to them in 1893, even if all that seems to have survived is a series of sketches in Bibliotheque Nationale de France, MS 20632(2), most of which appear to be for violin and orchestra in E or B major. Another related, and more virtuosic, theme emerged in a Parisian sale in June 2006, which opens the main part of the present Nocturne (after a slow introduction).<br> <br> We also learn from Ernest Chausson in April 1893 that Debussy was composing a work for Ysaye's first American tour in 1894-95, which at one stage was described as a 'concerto'. Then, as Debussy was putting the finishing touches to L'Apres-midi d'un faune in 1894, he told Ysaye he was now working on 'three Nocturnes for solo violin and orchestra which are destined for you', and which undoubtedly derived from his earlier 'Twilight scenes'. The first was to be 'for strings only'. the second for three flutes, four horns, three trumpets and two harps. the third combines all these instruments'. He also informed Ysaye, perhaps with Whistler's Nocturnes in mind, that they were to be like 'a study in grey in painting'. Debussy only abandoned this project in November 1896 after Ysaye told him he would not be able to premiere the Nocturnes in Brussels 'for financial reasons'.<br> <br> My completion comes closest to the third Nocturne Debussy planned and to being a rondo with related episodes. The dynamic idea that emerged in 2006, which was scored by Debussy, leads naturally into the 'twilight' theme in B major beginning on solo cello and doublebasses, with the high, haunting three-note idea first heard at the outset floating above on solo violin, exactly as Debussy conceived it. All five of Debussy's themes are harmonized and they vary in length between three and thirteen bars: none of them relate to the orchestral Nocturnes of 1897-99. Rather than develop any of these themes, they are presented in changing harmonic backgrounds in the contemporary manner of L'Apres-midi d'un faune, and the whole work centres on an expansive scalar which joins the various aspects of Debussy's 'twilight' themes together in a new perspective.

Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.518941). Violin Sonata No. 3 “Korean Beauty†Op.289 Sonata No. 3 is a music composed of Korean folk songs, nursery rhymes, and rhythms. The 1st movement was composed in a traditional sonata form with two opposing themes following a short introduction, “Jindo Arirang†and the rhythms of “Semachi†were cited. In the 2nd movement, the lyrical beauty is expressed using the theme of “Arirang,†which is the most representative Korean folk song and is well known worldwide. And for 3rd movement, the Korean nursery rhyme “Eolle Kollery†is cited, which is based on a four-time system, is used to express a humorous atmosphere. For reference, “Eollekoleri†is a language used by children to make fun of others. The last 4th movements are in the rondo form of ABACAD, and between the A and A subjects, three different folk songs, “Miryang Arirangâ€, Cheonan Samgeori(Three-way Intersection), and “Saeya Saeya Palangsaeyaâ€(Blue Bird) are cited, and at the same time, the Korean rhythms “Kutkori†and “Jajinmori†and Semachi were comprehensively cited. Due to the characteristic of the 4th movement in which the theme is used in layers, it was given the nickname “Korean Folk Song Sandwichâ€. This Sonata No. 3 was selected as a designated piece in the first final competition to commemorate the late Kwon Hyuk-ju, and was premiered worldwide by 5 finalists. Howard (A0.998836). This 'little rondo' has a distinctive main theme which uses the octatonic scale, and is harmonised by a series of parallel triads. The theme returns throughout, between episodes that are themselves variations on this tune, thus essentially making the piece monothematic. Textures are developed and the main melody is passed between instruments. One variation conveys an ironic march, almost in the manner of Shostakovich. Another variation uses the theme in a series of high register parallel triads, above a tonic pedal. Following a unison statement of the original theme by all four instruments, the brief introduction returns as a coda, to frame the work. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for most standards, including students and the more advanced. Duration: 2 minutes 10 seconds.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk.

DescriptionA delightful, intermediate level work suitable for encouraging students, hobbyists and professionals to improve or show off their performance skills. This lively work engages the audience with a breadth of moods from enlightening to reflective to celebratory. A great recital piece or encore piece to show off the melodiousness, harmoniousness and vibrancy of the tuba. Please send feedback, praises and more to contact@joaba.com.Total Duration: ~8 minutesPerformance Notes Prelude The real art of performing this piece is to master its dynamics. With the long pianissimo to forte crescendo at the introduction, the contrasting forte/mezzo piano sections and brisk, shorter crescendos for the cadences, the tubist must be aware of dynamics at all time and use them wisely. The second aspect to performing this piece is to contrast the 2 eighth note plus quarter note slurs motif against the arpeggiations. The introduction starts with the slurs and evolves into the arpeggiations by the first forte and the remaining piece explores the contrast between the two. Performers should feel free to try different dynamics, try different tempos (like zipping through the arpeggiations and slowing for the motif), etc. The goal is to bring the listener through the pleasantries of introductions to feel fresh and eager for further discourse ahead. March The rewarding challenge in this piece is to bring out the difference between cheery and con brio. The former being achieved by emphasizing the swaggering, strutting feel of the one-measure-per-beat feel and the latter by emphasizing the intervallic bounciness with the one-two march feel.Note that the motif (with the quarter note morphing into an eighth note) along with simpler arpeggiations are brought to play in a new manner reinforcing the positive mood from the prelude. The goal is to befriend the listener with an engaging, buoyant time. Air The tubist will exercise great breath control and phrasing to achieve a sublime solemnness counterbalancing the prior two movements. The motif now takes center stage headlining the main melodic phrases; however, here it is disjointed and conveys the sighing for the solemnness. After the pleasantness of the march, affableness having garnered friendship, we now open ourselves to share some somber matters and offer consolation. The intended goal here is to add depth to the relationship by addressing darker aspects in the discourse. Slip-jig Rondo Harking back to the compound meter of the prelude, this dance adventurously wakens the listener from the solemnness of the air asserting a new grandness and gladness. This is a slip-jig put into the rondo form so celebrate the main dance theme when it comes around and put fire and character into the transitions to make it worthwhile. The motif now jumps into the compound meter’s beat and morphs into three slurred, conjoint eighth notes. Now this motif enables several affects: exciting dance steps, transitions/modulations and concluding the phrases and the piece itself. The performer should aim to lead and amaze the listener with the waltz-like slip-jig rhythm and astound with the virtuosic transitions as a final send-off.

The first one has been done for mallets and the second one was built on a base of a drums work (GEA).The duration of those movements is 26 minutes, being around 11 minutes the first and 15 minutes the second one.The chamber music is formed by:Woodwind quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn & Bassoon)Brasswind quintet (Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, Horn, Trombone & Tuba)Strings orchestraThree firsts violinsThree seconds violinsThree violasTwo cellosFor the second movement is high recommendable to enlarge the strings, a good number of musician could be doubling.I. Strong ForcesThe work is inspired by the four fundamental forces of nature. These forces explain any phenomena which can be produced in the universe.Throughout all composition, it is latent the mathematic construction based in the series Fibonacci. In the first of the movements, Fibonacci's series is present in the notes' sequence that forms the series of 16 sounds and it is going to be present throughout the whole work. This series is taking form along the movement and it is getting melody and harmony.Although it is far away from the sonata form, as we know it in its period of highest glory, it takes elements of it and updates to our days. In this movement, we can find sonata form elements as the exposition, development, transitions or coda. The central part of the first movement becomes in the slow movement, being more intimate and lyrical, free of the serials ties although it uses resources before cited -now called common practice-.The movement finish with a short re-exposition that concludes with the virtuosic of the soloist doubling the series and adding more tension until conforming the series in its full whole.II. Weak ForcesIt is the most tribal of both movements. Its structure is more complex and in it, we also can find clear reminiscences to the sonata form.We can divide the movement into two big blocks. The first one is formed for the introduction and sections one and two.IntroducciónIt is based in one ostinato of three notes where the accent is changing provoking unsymmetric, this ostinato represents the nucleus of our existence. The piccolo and the trombone introduce us to the human element representing the two elements that form the development of the whole movement. The two elements of thematics are taken from the series, the first one is easily recognizable because it appears in his primary form.First section & cadenzaIn this movement, the rhythm, the melody, and the harmony are based on the sequence of Fibonacci. As the theme ostinato of the soloist as the melody is formed under the rhythm of 1, 2, 3 and 5. This section leads us to the second section with a clear mode of cadence. In the cadenza, the elements of the rhythm are varied freely with an accompaniment of the Spring Drum.DevelopmentIt is formed by two Rondo sub-sections in which the solo part has been created through the mirror technique. Both sections have the next form:Intro-A-B-A-B-(B(minor)+A)Intro-A-B-A-B-(B(major)+A)First section & CodaThe movement ends with the repetition of the first section and the final code.

Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM404). ISBN 9790570483037.The piece was written for my son-in-law whilst I was in a bustling cafe in Cardiff sipping my 'caffelatte'. It was for a concert that evening!!! The introduction is a March marked Allegretto (a piacere) whilst the main theme is an upbeat Allegro. It is loosely in pseudo Rondo form with a returning embellished and augmented first theme. A fun piece!
