Her earliest memory was watching her mother play classical piano. She began piano lessons at the age of 8, and started composing shortly thereafter.Stevens approaches her compositions as an artist. The song is about the cycle of birth and death: Cycles of life go on, yet we carry all that we've known and loved through the ages. Time, another track on Sydney's current release, is a song about how time passes more quickly when we are doing something we cherish. Brian's Song, inspired by the loss of her father-in-law, reflects: All that really matters is the way we fill our heart, and the ways that it has loved. Dawn, a track from Sydney's album Seasons, is a beautiful piano-based instrumental with light string background. It portrays that very peaceful hour as the sun slowly lights up the world -- the hour of dawn.Sydney is a poet. Classically-trained pianists are often asked to “play some quiet background music†which is non-invasive, that will support the event without bringing attention to the music itself, and can be brought to a graceful close quickly. “What to play?†is not the only challenge, but also, “What do I do if I run out of music before the event is done?†or, How can I bring a piece to a close if I'm told to stop playing before the piece is over?†“HELP! I can't improvise! I offer you a set of beautiful phrases that are uniquely purposed to fill these needs - and more. Peaceful Measures is a set of twelve four-measure, repeatable, interchangeable phrases with very little melodic distraction. Start with any phrase that suits your need, such as background music for a pastoral prayer. Repeat one phrase indefinitely or flow directly to any other. Skip around. Each phrase leads to all others, and all lead to your choice of two clearly labeled Endings. Because this download includes the seven most commonly used major keys, Peaceful Measures can also be used as vamping material until the song you are accompanying is ready to sing. Or use a phrase to extend a song in order to continue its mood. Print only the pages of the key you need now, or the whole set for quick referrals later. Explore their flexibility for other purposes, such as the passing of Communion for example: find your favorite phrases to repeat, then flow into the Ending that will serve the best timing. Need quiet music filler for an unknown length of time? Choose a phrase and repeat, then go to an Ending of your choice. Everything is written out for easy navigation and on-the-spot reading. The recording I have included is a series of phrases, some repeated, in F Major and uses Ending I. Pianists will discover even more settings for these versatile phrases! Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of leaves swirling. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musician’s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing! In Clouds, Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot! Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrow’s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Season’s Reprise brings together the themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite.

Having read many of the novels of Patrick O'Brian about the British Navy during the Napoleonic Wars, I thought I would write music for a hypothetical film based on these novels. I started H.M.S. Surprise long before I learned that such a film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World was actually being made. I had neither seen the movie nor heard the music used in it.H.M.S. Surprise consists of two movements for chamber orchestra. The first, In the Harbour, serves as an introducton. It portrays an existence which is peaceful and devoid of the difficulties to be encountered later. To be sure, there is some back-street intrigue and romantic entanglement, but life is generally pleasant. The second movement, At Sea, immediately follows the first and is considerably longer and more programmatic. It begins with typical adventure at sea music and soon becomes an imitation of a sailor's hornpipe, begun by the flute. Next comes the storm or the battle or perhaps both at the same time. Calm returns and the sailors give thanks by singing a hymn. Thanksgiving turns to celebration as everyone on deck plays one tune or another, including even the Captain, Jack Aubrey, who plays the violin. Later Captain Aubrey and his friend, Steven Maturin, physician, spy and cellist, play a duet before the music comes to a rousing conclusion.

Penn’s Landing was written for the 2020 Curtis Young Artist Summer Program's Composer-Performer Collective. The inspiration for this piece comes from a very specific memory that I had in May 2019 of me and a friend visiting an empty Penn’s Landing at night. The skyline of Philadelphia was so vibrant as well as the lights coming from different booths and restaurants that were open. Experiencing Penn’s Landing without any people allowed us to witness the beautiful qualities that night brings in Philadelphia.The beginning of this piece starts with a reflective and peaceful feeling. The piano plays a descending two-note figure that resonates on the second note. It then mirrors itself with similar figures that represent the city lights reflecting on the water. The music transforms into something more lively, playful while still using motifs and figures from the beginning. We then move to darker, slightly slower music when the low register of the piano is introduced. The left-hand plays a dark chorale while the right-hand hits high endless, resonant notes. These feelings of elation, admiration, peacefulness, coldness, melancholia were all emotions that I hoped to evoke.

Healing Hearts is the fourth solo piano release from Louis Landon in less than two years, an indication that his 2013 move to Sedona, AZ sparked an amazing creative streak for him. Since his move, Landon has established Healing Piano of Sedona which offers a unique sound healing experience to create mental, physical and emotional well-being. Landon is a Steinway Artist who has toured internationally and has released seventeen albums, eleven of which are solo piano (one is a best of). He has been using the techniques of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky for spiritual development since 1980. Healing Piano of Sedona was created to help people live life joyously, passionately, stress- and disease-free.The thirteen tracks on Healing Hearts were created spontaneously to assist individuals in their emotional and spiritual well-being. I have to admit that in the past, I have had a strong preference for Landon’s more composed music, but he is improvising and performing so much now that his spontaneous music is incredibly cohesive and complete and the emotional content is rich and sincere. Landon has performed house concerts in my series every year for the past seven years and while his music has always been exceptionally good, now it’s often breathtaking in its beauty and honesty. Nothing is held back, coming from the purest source of creativity. I’m blown away by the music on Healing Hearts and am certain that it will be the second of Landon’s albums on my Favorites list for 2014.Most of the tracks overflow with peace and serenity. In fact, Louis calls his home studio The Peace Palace and I can see why! A couple of pieces are a bit livelier, but the entire album is perfect for a warm and soothing background. However, be sure to treat your mind and soul to a blissful hour of calming music that can effortlessly heal the spirit and wash away the cares of the moment, the day, or life in general - at least for a while. All of the tracks are exceptional, but I’ll mention a few favorites. Amy’s Song is a breath of fresh air - graceful, tender and very warm. Gorgeous! Desert Peace is somewhat more ambient and so peaceful. I love the title track, which is more minor and a bit darker, but so poignant and compelling. Now or Never seems to be offering support and encouragement to move forward - gently but firmly. Sacred is almost hymn-like. The Great Unknown is dedicated to a young family member who passed away recently. Dark and sometimes painfully sad, there is hope as the healing process takes place - an amazing piece of music! The Painter expresses the passionate spirit that can flow from one artist to another. Unstoppable begins quietly and simply, gradually building energy, strength and power. Unstoppable, indeed! The seven modesThis collection of PDFs is something I am very proud of and I believe it has been my most well recieved PDF upload on the internet. Finding chord charts that simply list chords are a dime a dozen, and can be found anywhere. It is much rarer for a chord sheet to try to explain what order they go in and even rarer still to find it for guitar. It's difficult because it is an art, and of course there really is no wrong answers in composing (especially on Halloween I always joke). I personally haven't seen anything else quite like this on the internet.Many music theory books seem abstract and impractical whereas these chord charts show music theory applied to guitar. The aim is to memorize them so that you can understand them in all 12 keys. These chord progressions are of course a great composition aid. Tips:1. I find sheets like this to be excellent practice to play by ear. If the music is relaxing I play blue chords, if it is intense I play red chords. Once you get into the groove, and you know no one is changing key, it's as simple as that.2. When playing by ear, even if you get the exact chord wrong but you still get the correct color, it will still sound like you harmonizing the song correctly!!! See chords categorized by purpose rather than name will elegantly simplify how music actually works.3. The reason why we study the roman numerals is to be able to think about all of music in a single keyless key to allow for optimum clarity.4. One issue that needs to be fixed: what to do about the 11 other keys? One easy and quick fix is to use a guitar capo (or downtune) to get to all the other keys. I can't imagine giving out 56 pages of chord progressions to each of my students, it's way too much. Instead, I teach strategies on how these work in all 12 keys. 5. Order = Blue, Yellow, Red, Blue for stereotypical chord progressions that truely progress. These is such a thing called a chord succession where it is not the previous order. Again, try not to see music in terms of right and wrong. Everything expresses an emotion. For example, if there is a song devoid of red chords, it will result in more peaceful music. Released in the summer of 2016, Keith Gehle’s 5th full length commercial recording (Space and Time) is a sincere, heartfelt journey of healing through instrumental sounds and compositions. The album features 11 tracks of steel and nylon string guitars with accompanying piano, cello, flute, oboe, strings and synth pad sounds. Keith wrote the music and produced the recordings over several years after the unexpected death of his brother Ken in January of 2010. The process of grieving an unimaginable loss coupled with writing and recording music as a tribute to his late brother was extremely difficult and at times painful. The resulting work is honest, pure, and for Keith, a healing endeavor. This folio contains seven pieces from the album that work well as guitar solos and include detailed fingerings and interpretation. There's also a version with TAB available on this site.
