JESUS WAS WALKING is a sermon song based on the sermon On the Way to Jerusalem preached by Dr. Paul de Jong at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers Florida, on December 3, 2023. It is an arrangement of the children's song, Walking With Jesus which I first learned in French in Haiti in 1965. I have seen it with cartoons on the internet in Portugese, Spanish and Japanese. My lyrics are anything but childlike. They portray what Mark 10:32-52 tells of the march of Jesus to Jerusalem, where he lays out to the tone deaf disciples that he will be delivered to the priests, and Gentiles, killed, but on the third day he would arise from the dead. And having heard this, James and John ignore his message and want to know who will sit on his right and left when his kingdom comes. He has to correct them that his kingdom was not like that of the Gentiles. The other ten disciples rebuke James and John, but Jesus teaches them that to be great, one must be a servant to all. Finally, a blind man comes forward asking a favor, but unlike James and John, he only asks in humility that he might see. His faith heals him and the march goes on.Guitar chords are provided and an autoharp would be appropriate.

Hoffman (1839-1929), with harmonizing counter melodies by the soprano, alto and tenor/baritone instruments interweaving throughout. Also included is bass and percussion. The piece includes an introduction and ending; and a key change, followed by the return to the original key via D.S. al Coda. At the tempos marked, which also change a bit after the introduction and during the ending, the piece is 3:08 minutes in length. The piece is intended for use as special music in a christian worship service. The piece includes all three verses and the refrains of the original hymn. Thus it serves well as an accompaniment for a solo soprano or tenor vocalist; or a group of sopranos or tenors, or both, sung in unison. The lyrics could be taken right out of the hymn book and presented, with a bit of rehearsal to be prepared for the key changes and changes in tempo. This audio recording or an instrumental ensemble, using the sheet music, could perform the accompaniment. UPC: 749193009291.Two Manger Carols is a setting for handbells, optional handchimes, flute, and oboe incorporating Whence Comes this Rush of Wings Afar (also known as Carol of the Birds) and Sleep of the Child Jesus. The opening phrase uses the singing bell technique, over which the flute plays a figure representing the rush of wings and the oboe introduces the carol melody. Throughout the arrangement, the melody moves between handchimes, flute, oboe, and handbells. Care must be taken to balance the dynamics of the various instruments, especially taking care that the oboe doesn't overpower the ensemble. As the piece slows to the end, carefully observe dynamics and musically interpret the text, King of Glory, sleep.

Key: C major.The Beatles classic with the Advent hymn, In Dulci Jubilo. Both texts come from dreams, and this winds up a meaningful combination. In Dulci was written in the 14th century by German monk and teacher Heinrich Suso (or Seuse), who writes in his third-person autobiography about a dream he had: Now this same angel came up to the Servant [Suso] brightly, and said that God had sent him down to him, to bring him heavenly joys amid his sufferings; adding that he must cast off all his sorrows from his mind and bear them company, and that he must also dance with them in heavenly fashion. Then they drew the Servant by the hand into the dance, and the youth began a joyous song about the infant Jesus, which runs thus: In dulci jubilo... About 650 years later, in 1968, Paul McCartney was staying out late, drinking too much, and thinking that the Beatles were probably going to break up soon. Then one night, somewhere between deep sleep and insomnia, I had the most comforting dream about my mother, who died when I was only 14. She had been a nurse, my mum, and very hardworking, because she wanted the best for us.... At night when she came home, she would cook, so we didn’t have a lot of time with each other. But she was just a very comforting presence in my life. And when she died, one of the difficulties I had, as the years went by, was that I couldn’t recall her face so easily.... So in this dream twelve years later, my mother appeared, and there was her face, completely clear, particularly her eyes, and she said to me very gently, very reassuringly: “Let it be.†It was lovely. I woke up with a great feeling. It was really like she had visited me at this very difficult point in my life and gave me this message: Be gentle, don’t fight things, just try and go with the flow and it will all work out. His mother's name was Mary, or course. He wrote the song in the next few days, and it was released on the album on the same name in 1970, a month after the Beatles split up. As for the actual texts, they're very different. In Dulci is macaronic (alternating between two languages, in this case Latin and a translation from Medieval German) and ecstatic; Let It Be is English and more subdued. In this version, we alternate between the two but keep the Let It Be structure, except for a diversion in the middle where the well-known Bach setting is adopted as kind of an interlude. The two texts and melodies are sung together in the last verse (the fourth In Dulci verse and the third Let It Be verse), where both are talking about music.

This sermon song was inspired by the second half of the sermon Those Who Came With Jesus by Dr. Paul de Jong at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers, Florida on November 26,2023 using the text Mark 10: 1-31. I used the first groups who came with Jesus were the Pharisees testing Christ about marriage and devorce, the disciples and the children. In my sermon song Marriage and Children With God I set to the traditional Here Comes The Bride, with a Christian message as apposed to Wagner's pagan opera of origin. This one focuses on the rich man in the Gospel of Mark who, although he kept all of the commandments, lacked one thing - that he sell all he had and give it to the poor. With sorrow he departed from Christ because he had many riches. I avoided the eye of the camel referance, but ended with the line For all things are possible with God.For the music, to describe this event, I tweeked my sermon song LOOK, which has been published by Sheet Music Plus. This SATB arrangement can be used as special music by a quartet, a choir anthem or sung by a congregation with its five verses as a hymn.

This is a collection of 12 Trios (or Duets) arranged for Violin, Viola and Cello, based on melodies of beloved traditional christian hymns. Melodies are harmonized mostly by interweaving counter melodies. The Violin and Viola (or Violin II) are, at times, alternating melody and counter melodies, rather than the traditional vocal parts found in church hymnals. The result is a more interweaving flow of melody and counter melody. The Cello provides the bass, as it also contributes to the counter melodious sound. A Violin II part has been added to duplicate the Viola, in case a Viola is not available. These pieces also work very nicely as duets without the Cello; or duets with the Violin and Cello. Designed for early intermediate musicians, the collection is ideal for prelude or postlude music and especially offertories in worship services, funerals, weddings, etc . Length of the pieces can be altered by using more or less of the repeats included. The last two pieces are based on melodies from Christmas hymns. In addition, these pieces have a technical training value, as would etudes and exercises, due to the moving counter melodies that may challenge students at the early intermediate level. Though written to challenge students at the early intermediate level, more advanced musicians and audiences will find this music quite satisfying to play and enjoy, respectively. String class teachers may consider using this collection in class, as the entire Violin, Viola or Cello sections will be in unison, as a section, which provides support to players within their section. At same time, the other sections would be playing other parts, also in unison as a section - a good ensemble practice tool. The class might perform pieces from this collection in concert. Used as a place of worship for centuries, first by Christians and then by Muslims (from 1453), the Hagia Sophia (Istanbul) still amazes people from all over the world. Since 1934, it is a museum – but more than that, the Hagia Sophia, a unique architectural work of monumental proportions in Christian Antiquity and the Middle Ages, is described as a mystical place. Monumental, yet mysterious, a 'miracle of space', a symbol, a sign. 'Sophia', the holy wisdom, accompanies us through the whole Bible history. The present music has to be regarded against this background: A reflection, contemplation with music and poetry. The Creation is powerful, but the truth about it is powerful as well. And the realization that the path to truth is reached through wisdom. As a consequence, this piece has to cross the powerful for half its duration, monumental. It is the cupola over all following (observing) verses (sections). From bar 371, the path leads back into the powerful, into the rejoicing (bar 406). It must not be forgotten to mention the suggestion of 'singing in a mosque' (bar 510) which is answered by a simple prayer (bar 511). This is reminiscent of the mosaic above the imperial door of the building portraying Jesus Christ sitting on a jewelled throne. He holds an open book in which one can read 'Peace be with you. I am the light of the world'. The line and sound of Hagia Sophia are based on a symmetrical eight-note row (mode B) with the notes B, C sharp, D, E/F, G, A flat (G sharp), B flat (A sharp). Although the major-minor relations are removed, harmonic connections (colours) emerge nevertheless.

The writer, a member of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), imagines a literal Christ baby in the woods who is at one moment frying with fire and at the next melting into a pool to wash the sins of the world (or assuage the guilt of the narrator). Only at this moment does the narrator realize that it is Christmas day and the reader is left to ponder their devotional obligation to the poor. Apart from being a monumental target for parody, the text demanded to be set to gothic Halloweeny music. Expect unrepentant stealing from Gesu bambino and a nod to Handel’s French overture style. (Feel free to double-dot this section if you so desire.) There is also an Afro-cuban montuno piano solo whilst the baby Jesus burns. Because of course there is.

Twenty-three patriotic and seasonal selections, hymns, gospel songs and choruses From the Forward: EASY ENSEMBLE MUSIC is a collection of patriotic and seasonal selections, hymns, gospel songs and choruses. It has been prepared for use by church ensembles in various types of programs and services. It is also practical for school ensembles, which today are an important adjunct of the instrumental music teaching program. This volume is intended to help provide worthwhile and instructive music that is interesting to perform for players just beyond the beginner stage (or Grade II as defined by the Instrumentalist Magazine.) It will probably be used most often by youngsters who will need to spend time in individual practice before performing the selections with a group. However, more experienced musicians will find the contents pleasant to play without being taxing. Most selections are of modest length, have ample time for lead parts to catch their breath, and do not make undue demands upon range, technique, or rhythmic virtuosity. All selections are scored for a five (or four) part brass ensemble. Performing groups must have at least one book for each part (with the possible exception of Part 5, Tuba) in order to obtain satisfactory harmony. The parts are distinguished as follows: Part 1: C Instruments (Violin, Oboe, Flute); 1st Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet) Part 2: 2nd Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet) Part 3: Trombone (Baritone bass clef, Bassoon, Cello); F Horn (English Horn); Eb Horn (Alto Saxophone, Eb Alto Clarinet) Part 4: Trombone (Baritone bass clef, Bassoon, Cello); Baritone treble clef (Tenor Saxophone, Bass Clarinet) Part 5: Tuba or Sousaphone (Bassoon or Cello with occasional lower range limits, String Bass 8vb) WESLEY L.
