Includes score and parts: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax 1, Alto Sax 2, Bb Trumpet, Trombone (or Baritone), Mallets, Bass Drum, and Cymbals. When I arranged this, I only had early elementary clarinet players so that part is entirely written below the break. It can be taken up an octave for more advanced players. There is a flute solo for your best flute player, it could also be omitted if necessary. The mallet part could also be omitted in a pinch. It Is Well With My Soul is a hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. First published in Gospel Songs No. 2 by Ira Sankey and Bliss (1876), it is possibly the most influential and enduring in the Bliss repertoire and is often taken as a choral model, appearing in hymnals of a wide variety of Christian fellowships. Horatio Spafford's original lyrics are included below. It Is Not Death to Die is a new setting of French poet Henri Abraham César Malan's Non, ce n'est pas mourir as translated by George Washington Bethune and adapted for this work. Why this text? It first came to my notice shortly after the passing of Billy Graham, who was known to paraphrase D. L. Moody, Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.Graham's bold proclamation and Malan's poetry motivated me to focus anew on the resurrection, re-remembering it as the pivotal element of the Christian faith. For if there is no resurrection, Paul says in 1 Cor 15, our faith is useless. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead! Unfortunately, singing about heaven has, perhaps, been neglected of recent decades. We seem to have focused more on the already to the detriment of the not yet. But it is important to remember that this life is not all there is! Quoting Paul again, the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us (Rom 8:18). Yet, if Christ delays, the grim inevitability of our transition into eternity is a certain experience we all face. Malan's poetry so poignantly and eloquently captures this tension that it compelled me to compose a fresh musical setting that attempts to captures the mixture of dread and hope borne out in the acclamation that death is swallowed up in victory! I pray that this setting aids the Church to remember the great hope and promise Christ has granted us: O Death, where is your victory? O Death, where is your sting?_______________________________________________________________________________________________The music opens with a C# diminished chord in a very still and somber texture reflective of grief. The text is introduced with the first of two main motives, a rising 4-note outline of B minor in a triple repetition of It Is Not Death. As each stanza proceeds the music concludes on the second motive, a 5-note descending span of a minor 7th in Bb Lydian. The energy and mood of the music gradually shift over the five stanzas, as the focus moves from this life to the next; the texture thickens, the harmony expands, and the dynamic grows into the music’s pinnacle on reign with You on high! It is Cold for Beginner Level The story behind this song:I installed a brand new AC and heating unit at my house during the summer of 2014. The person who installed the system did not do a good job. I had a lot of problems with the brand new ac unit after they came to install it. One of the problems is that every year, when the temperature outside goes down to 30 degrees, the brand new installed heating system would not go above 65 degrees. Normally, it stays at 61 degrees. I was and still am very frustrated about this. This new heating and ac system costs a lot of money. (A person use the same amount of money to buy a nice small car.) Because the temperature has not gone above 65 degrees inside, I have had to wear two sweat shirts, one coat, one feather jacket, two pairs of cotton pants, two pairs of socks, and two warm hats almost every single day for about one month. I have been so cold every winter. A lot of times during the coldest days in the winter, I have to stay in my 1998 Toyota Sienna van. Because it is warmer in my van than in my house. One day, while I was driving, I thought about writing a song about how cold I have been.In this song, I used many seconds including Major 2nd and Minor 2nd. The Major and Minor seconds sound very sharp, like the cold that is cutting through your skin. It is very uncomfortable, and that is the idea behind this song. The Heart It Is a Strange Beast examines the conflict that occurs between the logic of the brain and the emotion of the heart when it comes to one's romantic endeavors. The piece is written for Three Part Choir with woodwind, bass guitar, and simple percussion accompaniment. There are a lot of complex rhythms and at times the voice parts are almost polyphonic. The piece also explores the Dorian mode which is a rather rare key for modern performances. Even though this piece is challenging it is very fun to play and has a lot of educational potential for intermediate level groups.The piece by Mark Lewis was written with Men's Ensemble in mind but its range is such that any three part ensemble could probably perform it. The music in written in treble clef for ease of reading. Clarinet is the preferred woodwind instrument but sheet music has been included for C, Bb, and Eb instruments. Bass guitar is preferred but any bass instrument would work well for the bass line and the percussion parts are also intended to be easy to play on multiple different types of percussion instruments.

Said Lamm: [It's] not a complicated song, but it’s certainly a quirky song. But that was my intent. I wanted to write something that wasn’t ordinary, that wasn’t blues-based, that didn’t have ice cream changes, and would allow the horns to shine and give Lee Loughnane a solo. This arrangement is for saxophone quintet (soprano, alto, two tenors, and baritone) and the melody is passed around the ensemble a bit. The arrangement is suitable for intermediate level players.

The right hand plays the melody line embellished with chords underneath, along with a couple of thumb slides and quick placing. The left hand has more challenging cross-unders with 10th intervals, brush muffles, and several lever changes. Both hands do some jumping between registers, and there are many rolled chords and some tempo changes throughout the piece.Type of Harp: Big harp version is for 33-string harps and larger. Small harp version is for 26 string harps and larger.Range: For big harps: the lowest note is C, two octaves below middle C. The highest note is G, two and a half octaves above middle C.
