Hava Nagila, Klezmer tune for Violin Duet

Violin Duet Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.589297 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David McKeown. Jewish,Multicultural,Wedding,World. 4 pages. David McKeown #6020793. Published by David McKeown (A0.589297). Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violins. Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a steady beginning, the melody gradually increases in tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Hava Nagila is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Hava Nagila is perfect for celebrations, weddings and concert performances, both formal and informal. Published by David McKeown (A0.589167). Chosn Kale Mazel Tov, (Good Luck to the Bride and Groom), is a Jewish wedding tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violins.Often shortened to Mazel Tov, it is thought that the song was written by Sigmund Zelig Mogulesko. Born in Romania, he was a larger than life character who dominated Yiddish theatre on both sides of the Atlantic in the late nineteenth century. Mogulesko was a childhood prodigy, equally adept as a composer, playwright, singer, comedian, actor and impresario. Mazel Tov was written for a wedding scene in one of his productions but has since become one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards.Mazel Tov is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Mazel Tov is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. Score and parts. 6 pages. David McKeown #6017133. Published by David McKeown (A0.588675). 7.40pm is a traditional Russian Jewish tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Violin and one Clarinet. It isn’t completely clear where the title 7.40pm comes from. One interpretation is that 7.40pm was the time the Odessa tram conductors finished work and danced to this tune. But there are versions titled 7.40am which may refer to the time of Jewish early morning prayers. Whatever the origin, there are several Russian recordings of 7.40pm that predate the 1917 revolution.7.40pm is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo. 7.40pm is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Mazel Tov is perfect for wedding and concert performances, both formal and informal. Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Oboe,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.588931 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David McKeown. Jewish,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6020755. Published by David McKeown (A0.588931). Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Violin.Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. David McKeown #6017097. Published by David McKeown (A0.588929). 7.40pm is a traditional Russian Jewish tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Violin. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of 7.40pm is perfect for recital and concert performances, both formal and informal. Al HaNissim (Hebrew: עַל ×”Ö·× Ö´×¡Ö´Ö¼×™×, on the miracles) is an addition to the Amidah and Birkat Hamazon on Hanukkah and Purim. On both holidays, it starts off with a short paragraph, beginning with the words for which it is named. After that, each holiday has a unique paragraph, describing the events for which that day is celebrated.[1] On Hanukkah, the prayer is recited to thank God for the miracles with which the holiday is associated. This work uses elements of klezmer music to express the idea of this prayer through music.

Cello and piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6912 Sequentia Serpentigena. Composed by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Op. 285. Duration 17 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6912. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6912). The Sonata, in six movements, is the direct outcome of Peter Maxwell Davies’ encounter with the ‘pievi’ – early medieval rural churches – of Tuscany. He writes: ‘In particular, it was inspired by the elusive and enigmatic nature of the imagery of their stone carvings. I have concentrated on just one image, that of the snake, which in Jewish and Christian tradition is a symbol of temptation and betrayal, and of sinfulness in general. However, in the pievi, older significances, which can be traced back to Estruscan times, can be discerned, and these meanings, quite contrary to the usual readings, are now beginning to be fathomed, helping us to understand for instance why the piece of San Vito in Corsignano has no stone carving apart from decorative elements, and that of small, extended snakes.’

Small Ensemble Flute,Recorder,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.932483 Arranged by JM Bolton. Jewish. Score and parts. 46 pages. JM Bolton #6658393. Published by JM Bolton (A0.932483). You don’t have to be Jewish to appreciate klezmer, a Yiddish word that means music. There is something about these tunes that awakens an almost uncontrollable desire to dance! Klezmer does that. The whole point of The Little Books of Fiddle Music series is to make available interesting and fun pieces of music that the beginning and intermediate musician can enjoy. There are a lot of other collections available, but most of them are too demanding for the casual fiddler ... and there are many more people who play recreational music then you might suspect! The pieces in this book were selected because they are melodious and not overly complicated. In some cases, I simplified the notation even further to make the music accessible to a beginning fiddler. My goal is to allow more people to appreciate this music. The book is smaller than usual so it will fit into your fiddle case. You can use it on a music stand or leave it open on the floor as a quick reference when you are playing in a group. If you enjoy this book, you might try the other titles from the Little Books of the Irish and Scottish collection.
