Journey of Peril is a composition for emerging ensemble performing at an intermediate instrumental level. This composition moves several times between concert Eb Major and c minor allowing the ensemble timely experience in the two different tonalities. This is written with various repetitious sections which allows for quick rehearsal time and successful and performance. Again, this is interesting and playable music for young and emerging wind/percussion ensembles.

Published by Jason Gary McChristian (A0.886109). ​ In May 2015, a solar sail was launched into space by the publicly funded organization The Planetary Society. The construction of the sail consisted of a box the size of a loaf of bread (known as a CubeSat), metal booms, and four incredibly thin triangular Mylar sails. The vehicle was propelled by light from the Sun and in future projects; the sail would continue to gain momentum, ultimately accelerating to high speeds, allowing for travel along limitless distances. ​ Luminous Travels - The Journey of LightSail-A tells the account of this space-faring vessel in four major musical scenes. The first scene, UNFOLDING, features a lyrical melody first heard on the solo trombone then carried off by of the ensemble. The second scene, COMPUTING, depicts the inner-workings of the CubeSat. This new theme is rhythmic and aggressive, suggesting the hazards to come. The third scene, BLACKOUT, represents the communication blackouts that occurred during the flight that left the project in peril. This scene marks the cadenza of the work and depicts the lonely and frigid environment of space. Eventually, the unease is assuaged bringing hope back to the project. With a new sense of optimism, the final scene, ACCELERATING, represents the increase in speed that will occur in future solar sail space projects. The music from the earlier sections returns and changes, and as the music presses forward; the solo trombone rises into its highest register at breakneck speed as the solar sail crosses along infinite space. ​ The piece is dedicated to Keith Hunter, who has been a champion of my music and for whom Luminous Travels is dedicated. ​.

Capriccio on the Departure of a Beloved Brother, BWV 992 is an early keyboard work by Johann Sebastian Bach, composed in 1704 when Bach was still a teenager. It is considered one of his few programmatic compositions, telling a specific story through music. The journey across the Wild West was full of hardship, peril, and loss This song battles the very real struggles with levity and humor. It was first published in 1858.“Git Along, Little Dogies†is a cowboy ballad, also known as “Whoopie Ti Yi Yoâ€. While likely older, the first mention of the song was in author Owen Wister’s 1893 journal. It was first published in 1910. “Dogies†is a reference to small or orphaned calves. The narrative of the song quotes a cowboy singing to the slow or stray dogies as they move along the cattle drive to Wyoming.“Rock Island Line†refers the Rock Island and La Salle Railroad company (established 1947) which soon after became the Chicago and Rock Island Railroad. When construction of the railroad arrived at Rock Island in 1854, it became the first to connect Chicago with the Mississippi River. This folk song references an encounter between an operator of a toll gate and a train engineer who is let through without paying by lying about his payload. Once safely through, he yells back his confession as the train speeds onward. The earliest known version of the song was published in 1929.Grade 3.5 Performance time: 10:00.

Depicting the journey of travelling across the Tasman to begin a new life in a brand new country, this work is full of excitement, despair, and determination. Underlined by the composers jazz influences, this autobiographical work uses the migration of birds between New Zealand and Australia as an allegory for the composers own experiences. Movement 1, Into the West depicts the perilous journey across the Tasman, and the intensity of being dropped into a new place to fend for yourself.Movement 2, Alone in a Crowd, tells the story of the loneliness that can come from being just that little bit out of place in a new society, whilst also full of character and strong personality.Movement 3, Broken Wing, begins with everything being too much, and reflecting on the many failures of the journey, but finishes with a vengeance and determination to prevail.

Published by John Fisher (A0.1267531). This is the fourth in my series of Sermon Songs. On June 18, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers, Florida, Rev. Roger Peterson used the text Acts 12 : 1-19 in an inspiring sermon - BELIEVING PRAYER. James had been killed, and Herod, grandson of Herod the Great, who had spoken to the Wise Men, put Peter in chains and had him heavily guarded so he could be executed after the Feast of the Unleavened Bread. The early church prayed, and prayed for Peter, and an angel lead Peter out and he at first thought it was a dream. When he finally realized he was free, he knocked and knocked on doors until a faithful girl named Rhoda let him join in what would be his long journey of spreading the Gospel. Herod, by the way had the guards killed, but when he acted like a god, God got him but good.In these perilous times, I would hope that this hymn arrangement could be sung over and over. ( Check out my other published Sermon Songs - SING TO THE LORD, MOSES AND MIRIAM, and BARNABAS.

The story is of a disabled and deformed young woman who, accompanied by her employer, the Chief Shepherd, takes a long journey through perilous and challenging conditions, and finally endis up on mountain peaks, fully victorious over her trials, and healed of her infirmities. This work depicts her awaking up and finding great joy in the healing. I wrote this for six flutes, but it can be expanded for a full flute choir/orchestra, and accompanied by a bodhrun.
