Just Another Night Music (Mozart´s Little Night Music in a Latin Version)

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.876883 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Augustin Lehfuss. Baroque,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and parts. 23 pages. Gustfuss Records #3036639. Published by Gustfuss Records (A0.876883). This is a „take another crossroad version of Mozart´s famous Little Night Music, written by Austrian Arranger and Composer Augustin Lehfuss – a wild and funny arrangement for string quartet in a unusual latin style. Everybody knows the triad motive at the beginning of Mozart´s original composition, which reappears several times throughout the piece. The idea was, that the performing quartet, while playing the original work of Mozart – tired of always playing the same classical music – „turns left any time the characteristic motive appears, and switches to the latin version which is sold here. Then it runs wild for a while and enjoys Mozart´s theme in a crazy latin style, bevor, finally disciplinized again, finishes in Mozart´s original ending of his „Little Night Music. From the „turn out of Mozart´s original piece until the original ending the latin arrangement lasts about three minutes . For this arrangement starts with the famous triad motive, it can also be played as a stand alone version, though recognizable for the audience. There are phrasings and dynamics indicated in this arrangement, but every quartet should feel free to choose their own phrasings. This arrangement was written for students of a musical university, so it requires a little bit more advanced players – but it should not be taken too serious..visit also the arranger's hompagewww.lehfuss.com Please visit also the arrangers facebook and twitter accounts https://www.facebook.com/pg/Augustin-Lehfuss-Singer-and-Songwriter-694559137266782/about/?ref=page_i..... https://twitter.com/AugustinLehfuss

Healing Hearts 3<br> Louis Landon<br> 2016 / Landon Creative, Inc.<br> 63 minutes<br> Review by Kathy Parsons<br> Louis Landon’s Healing Hearts 3 is the third in a series of solo piano albums that are comprised of improvisations that were created while clients were in session at his Healing Piano of Sedona (AZ). These sixty-minute healing and music sessions consist of forty minutes of mentoring and twenty minutes of music that includes personalized music for the client’s own use. Landon created Healing Piano of Sedona several years ago to help people live life joyously, passionately, and stress- and disease-free. Landon is a Steinway Artist who has been a life-long musician. Healing Hearts 3 is his twenty-first album and fourteenth solo piano collection. Each of the thirteen pieces on the album was inspired by a different “soul journey,” so the music is quite varied although it maintains a very calming and peaceful vibe throughout.<br> <br> It is interesting to note that Healing Hearts 3 has the closest to the ideal sound Landon has been looking for on his recordings. He attributes that achievement to the mastering and editing expertise of Joe Bongiorno of Piano Haven Studio, also in Sedona. Landon has been trying to get the sound of a classical concert hall in his Peace Palace studio recordings and this album definitely has that sound, which is exceptionally beautiful - clear, warm and resonant.<br> <br> Healing Hearts 3 begins with “Standing In the Light,” a softly flowing piece with a poignant melody that gently soothes the heart - a favorite. “Heart Song” is hushed, intimate and obviously very personal. “Triumph of the Soul” starts out in the deep bass of the piano - very dark and lost. As the piece evolves, it gradually lightens as it moves up the piano keyboard, ending in a very positive place. I’ve often said that the piano is the best instrument to express the sound and feeling of rain and “Night Rain” proves that point again. More energetic than most of the other tracks, the notes flow freely: sometimes smoothly and evenly, sometimes more percussive like big fat raindrops - love it! “Tears” is heartbreak set to music, although tears are so often a big part of the healing process. Such deep emotion is expressed in this piece! Landon wisely follows sadness with “Happy Man,” a lively slice of pianistic sunshine. “Phoenix Rising” begins in the deep bass of the piano, obviously signifying a very dark place or crisis. Over the course of the composition, there is turmoil and pain, but then Landon gradually moves the piece into the upper end of the piano to a much lighter and more peaceful place - a stunning piece! “Healing Time” is gently uplifting and so soothing and serene that I can actually feel it melting away tension - another favorite. “Music Runs Through Me” flows quickly like a stream with sparkles of sunlight dancing happily on its surface. “Balance” returns to a calm stillness that comes when things/life are in balance. Slow, lyrical and very peaceful, it’s the perfect closing for another great album from Louis Landon!<br> <br> I have thoroughly enjoyed all three Healing Hearts albums, but I think #3 is my favorite. Londonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room For Daddy).<br> <br> "Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant’s Causeway.<br> <br> On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.<br> <br> There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some listeners have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.<br> <br> The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly’s intent.<br> <br> Why the name Londonderry Air? Londonderry and Derry refer to the same place, a city in the north of Ireland, and also to the surrounding county. Supposedly the city of Derry was founded by St. Colmcille, although archaeological evidence shows that people were living there thousands of years earlier. There is an excellent museum in the city, which is worth a visit if you want to find out more. The name of the city was actually "Doire", corrupted to "Derry" by people who can’t pronounce Irish. It thought to derive from an Irish root meaning "oak tree".<br> <br> Moving quickly along in history, about a millenium later the government of England was having a difficult time colonizing Ireland because of the fierce and warlike clans living there, especially in the north of the country, Ulster. The monarchs of England, almost all of whom were notorious cheapskates, were continually looking about for ingenious ways to conquer places without actually having to put up the money themselves, or run the risk of unpopularity if they lost. In the case of Ireland, some of these schemes of the "Brish gummit" (as it is termed nowadays in Ulster) are still producing unfortunate long-term consequences.<br> <br> In 1608, King James I gave the city of Derry to the City of London corporation. I guess the deal could be summed up by saying that if the City of London could figure out a way to chase all the inhabitants out of Derry, they would be allowed to keep the loot, minus a percentage for the King of course. If they lost, well too bad. In celebration of this historic agreement, the name of Derry was officially changed to Londonderry. (For further information, check out the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s History of Derry.)<br> <br> The linguistic outcome of all this today is that, if you think that King James’s deal with the City of London was a good idea, you call both the city and county "Londonderry". If you do, you are probably a supporter of the Unionist movement that seeks to keep Ulster a part of the United Kingdom. If you think it was a bad idea, you call both "Derry", and you are probably a supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause. Or you might just be someone who thinks it’s confusing for kings to be going around changing the names of places all the time for no good reason.<br> <br> You can find plenty of discussion about the political side of the question elsewhere, but here let’s look at the musical side. We have an air, collected in county Derry/Londonderry, and it doesn’t have a title. What do we call it?<br> <br> If you were a proper Victorian, there’s no way you were going to call it the Londonderry Air, much less the Derry Air, because of the improper sentiments that these titles might suggest. My parents tell me that in their youth in Australia, it was usually called the Air from County Derry. (This would, I suppose, support Winston Churchill’s theory that Australia was inhabited by "convicts and Irishmen".)<br> <br> My mother also sends the following information, referring to an arrangement of the tune by the Australian composer Percy Grainger:<br> <br> Just another note about Danny Boy, that I grew up in Australia believing to be the Air from County Derry. We were looking through some LP’s last night (back to vinyl yet!) and found a Mercury Wing Classical Favorites stereo LP SRW18060, COUNTRY GARDENS and other favorites by Percy Grainger {played by} Eastman-Rochester Pops, Frederick Fennell, conducting. The cover notes included the following: "Irish Tune from County Derry was harmonised in memory of Irish childhood friends in Australia." Considered by many to be Grainger’s masterpiece of harmonization, the tune was collected many years ago by Miss Jane Ross of New Town, Limavady, Ireland. Grainger has set it for many instrumental combinations. So there’s another variant on the name for it. It doesn’t say who wrote the notes, but the bits in quotes for each of the works on the record are Grainger’s original comments.<br> <br> The references to Londonderry Air that I’ve seen don’t go back any earlier than the late 1930s. For example, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) in February 1940. Bing Crosby’s version was recorded in July 1941 (reference). (So many different things I could check up on!) Londonderry was an important American naval base during WWII, but the US hadn’t come into the war in 1940.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? They are ALL in my store! All my anthem arrangements are also available for Orchestra, Recorders, Saxophones, Wind, Brass and Flexible band. If you need an anthem urgently for an instrumentation not in my store, let me know via e-mail, and I will arrange it for you FOC if possible! keithterrett@gmail.com<br> <br> Contact Publisher Related ScoresLondonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. If you need an anthem urgently for an instrumentation not in my store, let me know via e-mail, and I will arrange it for you FOC if possible! keithterrett@gmail.com<br> <br> Contact Publisher Related Scores

Piano Solo - Early Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Louis Landon. Spiritual, New Age. Sheet Music Single. 7 pages. Published by Landon Creative, Inc.
Healing Hearts 2<br> Louis Landon<br> 2015 / Landon Creative<br> 66 minutes<br> Review by Kathy Parsons<br> Louis Landon continues to soar on the wings of an amazingly creative period - now going on several years! Healing Hearts 2 is the follow-up to Healing Hearts, which was released the end of 2014 and is nominated for Album of the Year on Whisperings Solo Piano Radio. This is Landon’s second album for 2015 and he’s already working on his first release for 2016! The fourteen tracks on Healing Hearts 2 were gathered from improvisations created during sessions at Landon’s Healing Piano of Sedona (AZ), so the piano solos are very smooth and soothing - probably the most relaxed and relaxing album of Landon’s career. Recorded on a Steinway B grand piano at The Peace Palace in Sedona and mastered by Joe Bongiorno at Piano Haven, also in Sedona, the piano sound is impeccable - very warm and enveloping. Landon told me that this is the best music he never wrote, referring to the fact that the music just flows out of him during these sessions, reflective of each client’s wants and needs at the time of the session.<br> <br> The full Healing Hearts 2 album is a little more than an hour of quietly uplifting music and works exceptionally well as a relaxing and healing experience. I’d like to mention a few favorite pieces, though. The album begins with “Sisters,” a very gentle piece that expresses the love and special bond that can exist between sisters. Very light and free, it’s a beautiful start. “Free At Last” starts out almost mournfully - dark and searching - gradually becoming livelier and more optimistic. It’s an amazing musical journey and development! “Relax and Enjoy” expresses the warm comfort of just letting go and “being” for awhile - leisurely and contented. “Feeling the Love” is so warm and open that it feels like a musical embrace - melodic yet very free. “All Is Well” is almost ambient, but what a wonderful atmosphere of quiet contentment it creates - a perfect peace. “Transition” is like floating on a cloud - effortless and so peaceful. “Dark Nights” is one of the most beautiful pieces Landon has recorded. It reminds me a little bit of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” and some of Chopin’s Nocturnes - so poignant and heartfelt that it takes my breath away. The gracefully flowing “Dancer” expresses freedom and elegant movement. “Lullaby” closes this excellent album with a piece so soothing it could melt the tension out of anyone. Gorgeous!<br> <br> If you are looking for music that will relax and refresh your inner being, you need to look no further than Healing Hearts 2. This is the real deal when it comes to soothing piano music with substance and heart. It is available from louislandon.com, Amazon, iTunes, and CD Baby. Fifteen Safari Duets for Tubas
2 Tubas (duo)

Composed by Gregory Fritze. Classical Period, Contemporary Classical, Jazz, Method, Etudes and Exercises. Score. 38 pages. Published by Musica Nova USA
Fifteen Safari Duets for Tubas was composed for playing duets with my tuba students. The fifteen duets are at different levels of difficulty and various styles so that we always had duets to play no matter what ability of student. There is something in each duet for students to learn from the basics of tone production, rhythms, melodic phrasing, jazz, graphic notation, etc. Most are sight readable and some have been performed in concerts. They are all fun to play. Although for tubas, they may be played on any instrument.<br> <br> In 1988 I spent a month in Kenya on safari and experiencing the African wildlife and culture, thus the inspiration for these duets that were composed soon after the trip in 1989 and 1990 and have been a regular part of my teaching ever since. Four of these duets are recorded on the compact disc “Tuba Safari” (Troy 1173) on Albany Records.<br> <br> 1. Elephants at Stave<br> <br> This duet presents the cantabile style studied for playing the tuba. I find that this duet helps the student much like the melodies of Borgodni etudes. There are more elephants in Tsavo than anywhere else in Kenya. It was not uncommon to see large families of thirty elephants at a time.<br> <br> 2. Gallop – Thompson Gazelle at Amboseli<br> <br> This duet provides an opportunity to read in a sharp key, D major, as well as basic rhythms and articulations. I find that the more advanced students can read in a faster tempo and other students can work in a slower tempo – a common choice in all of the duets. Large herds of playful Thompson Gazelle were a usual occurrence in most of the game parks in Kenya. <br> <br> 3. Rhinos at Nairobi Game Park<br> <br> This waltz helps the student match phrasing in a cantabile setting. There are a few instances where the teacher (playing the first part) plays a phrase then the student plays a similar phrase. The rhinoceros is a very noble animal that can grow to more that 1,000 pounds and is known for its horn. The Nairobi game park is located just outside the city, giving a sense of surrealism to the panorama.<br> <br> 4. Giraffes at Nairobi Twiga Park<br> <br> This is in a “rock” style with syncopated rhythms and cantabile melodies. The Nairobi Twiga park is just outside the city and is the only place where one can feed the giraffes. Along with their long necks they have very long tongues.<br> <br> 5. Warthogs at Ngulia<br> <br> Legato scales and syncopated rhythms are the features of this duet. Warthogs have tails that are held upright when they run.<br> <br> 6. Baboons at Kiliguni<br> <br> This duets alternates in rock style and swing. Baboons are sometimes a problem because they will try to steal food from the tourists’ tables. They will work together where one causes a diversion while the others steal. <br> <br> 7. Pastoral – Cape Buffalo at Samburu<br> <br> The key of A for this duet gives variation for the students. Cape Buffalo are in large herds on the savanna. The Samburu Lodge dining area was built next to a watering hole. At the beginning of breakfast there were no animals, but in fifteen minutes more than 500 cape buffalo were at the water hole.<br> <br> 8. Song - Hippos at Mzima Springs<br> <br> This is the easiest of rhythms and range of the duets, especially for the 2nd(student) part. Hippopotamuses can grow up to 4,000 pounds and spend most of their time sleeping in the water during the day. At night they go on land to hunt.<br> <br> 9. Leopards at Kimana Lodge<br> <br> This duet is non-metric and uses graphic notation. This was a favorite duet of my students as many have never experienced this notation before. The leopard is a large predatory cat that usually hunts at night. <br> <br> 10. Colobus Monkeys at the Ark<br> <br> This is an Invention in the Bach style. The Ark is a building that was built in 1969 at a watering hole for tourists to watch wildlife. The colobus monkey is black with white on its forearms and chest. <br> <br> 11. Zebra Migration at Masai Mara<br> <br> This duet is in a “Medium Swing” jazz style. The great migration between the Masai Mara and Serengeti involves about two million wildebeest, zebras and other animals every year. It is considered one of the most impressive natural events worldwide.<br> <br> 12. Ostrich at Samburu<br> <br> This duet works on double time and half time. The ostrich is the largest bird in the world. In Samburu there was an ostrich that hung around the lodge, her name was Margaret. She was very friendly with everybody but she would steal your hat.<br> <br> 13. Cheetah at Voi<br> <br> This is another duet that includes graphic notation. The cheetah can run up to 80 miles an hour when chasing after prey. When not hunting prey it often walks very slowly.<br> <br> 14. Gallop – Gerenuk at Buffalo Springs<br> <br> This gallop displays different types of articulation. The gerenuk is an antelope with a slightly extended neck so it can eat higher leaves from trees.<br> <br> 15. Lions at Mara Sopa<br> <br> This duet is in the style of a fanfare. The lion is considered the king of the savanna. <br> <br> Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Tuba Professor and Chair of Composition, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over one hundred compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally including First Prize in the 1991 TUBA Etude Contest. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe that have been performed extensively throughout the world. Many of his compositions are available on ITunes, Youtube and Soundcloud. <br> <br> His compositions are recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Records and others. He has been a guest lecturer, conductor and performer at many colleges, universities and music festivals in the United States, Canada, Japan, South America and Europe. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1954 and has Composition degrees from the Boston Conservatory and Indiana University. Piano Solo - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522203 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Concert,Instructional,Standards. Score. 12 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3410943. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522203). Youngsters are sure to enjoy these tuneful pieces, crafted especially for the young learner. The music follows on from the much easier pieces in The River at the End of Day. They are ideal for elementary pianists, but of course could be used with beginners of all ages. More experienced students will find them ideal and enjoyable sight-reading exercises or to develop the useful skill of transposing at sight. The colorful pieces are arranged in approximate order of difficulty, so you can feel free to pick and mix according to the needs of the students. Most of the pieces use eighth notes (quavers), quarter notes (crotchets), half notes (minims) and whole notes (semibreves). Each piece takes up just one page. With attractive melodies and interesting harmonies several of them could be strung together to create a suite for a student recital. Many of the fingerings are provided but sometimes the choice of fingering is left for the teacher and student to decide. For more advanced students, these pieces can serve a useful function either as sight-reading exercises or for transposing at sight, a skill that is sometimes neglected. The sample audio clip contains the following pieces from the collection: (1) Dance to the Rising Sun; (2) Song of the Tree Spirits; (3) Mountain Dance; (9) Hymn to the Stars and (10) Night Dance.

Small Ensemble Flute,Harp,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797341 Arranged by Beth Kolle. Concert,Folk,World. Score and parts. 40 pages. Afghan Press Music for the Harp #4808447. Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797341). Songs for the Midnight Sun comprises fifteen Nordic folk melodies, dance tunes, songs and ballads that have captured the arranger's imagination over the years. For Beth Kolle, Scandinavian music is the expression of the unparalleled beauty of the Nordic countries. The exotically different modes and harmonies evoke wild nature, and unseen beings of the ancient folk beliefs. This is music meant to be sung, danced to, or crooned to sleepy children, preferably in an age-old log cabin redolent of sweet, mellow resin and many years of comforting fires. As with all her other books, these arrangements are meant to be adjusted to your own playing style. Use them as a stepping-off point for making the arrangement your own, or use some of my ideas in a different song. Consider yourself warned: many Scandinavian tunes are addictive and tend to roll around in your head. The cure for that, of course, is to find another tune to replace the one in your head. And so on....good luck with that.Contains: Song from Venjan, Traditional Song, Dalarna, Sweden, The Dream, Göran ‘Freddy’ Fredriksson, Sweden (also has flute/fiddle part), Polska from Hälleforsnäs, Traditional Polska, Sweden, Ball Polska, Traditional Polska, Sweden, Funk Fars Polska, Traditional Polska, Rättvik, Sweden, Marjankukka (Berry Flower), Lauri Keskinen, Finland (Flute or Fiddle part included), Springtime Waltz, Traditional Waltz, Sweden (Flute or Fiddle included), Walking Tune (Gånglåt efter Hamare), Traditional Gånglåt, Sweden, The Lost Sheep, Traditional Melody, Telemark, Norway, Waltz from Denmark, Traditional Waltz, Denmark, Amanda, Roger Tallroth, Sweden ,Waltz from Folldal, Traditional Waltz, Norway (Flute or Fiddle part included), Bridal March from Äppelbo, Traditional Wedding March, Sweden, Griffenfeldt, Traditional Reinlender, Norway, La Folia, Traditional Polska, Sweden (Flute or Fiddle part included)

Piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q25583 14 famous classical pieces, original version + jazzy arrangement. Composed by Uwe Korn. Arranged by Uwe Korn. This edition: Sheet music. Jazz rock - classic - music history. Downloadable. Op. Vol. 2. Schott Music - Digital #Q25583. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q25583). 14 famous themes from music history, from Bach to Offenbach, each with its own jazzy interpretation - just as in Vol. 1. This edition shows that 'classical music' and jazz are not that distant from one another after all. Just imagine Grieg's Piano Concerto played on a bandoneon - and you have got the perfect tango! Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 1 is also ideal as a salsa ('Hungarian Salsa No.1'). Schubert's trout suffers a terrible fate, here it may continue to live in a lively ragtime ('Fish Rag'). With Mozart, the night is merry and friendly. but 'A Black Night Music' shows its dark side.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. ‘Is that you kids?’ It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship… You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you know—them pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For …he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.
