An energetic new setting of the classic sacred text, "Cantate Domino" was commissioned as a competition piece by maestro Rolandas Daugela for the Cantate Domino International Choral Festival and Competition of 2017.

The piece opens with a triumphant fanfare, accompanied by an energetic rhythmic figure in the tenors and basses. This first theme is contrasted by the second section - a warm, contemporary "benedicite" theme, followed by a lyrical, folk-inspired "quia mirabilia". The final section is an exciting reprise of the first theme, but this time the tenors and basses carry the fanfare in four-part harmony while the sopranos and altos provide the driving accompaniment. In the final bars of the piece, the choir ascends in a powerful crescendo to a magnificent final cadence.

This simple yet effective arrangement of "Someone You Loved" is perfect for a developing middle school or high school choir. The original song is in a tough range for most singers; this version gives uses octaves in the verses and then gives the melody to the altos, but supports the low notes with help from the tenors. Harmony in the voices is easy yet effective, and the piano supports the vocal parts to give the singers confidence to sing fully and with real emotion.

The verses and choruses pass around the main melody - from bass to tenor, to group, to a high-flying soloist.

The bridge introduces some new, original musical material to add variety to the centuries-old text, and things conclude with a keychange and a strong, satisfying, joyful finish.

There are homages to the barbershop style here as well - a vibrant tune for a Glee Club! A crowd-pleaser at holiday concerts.

Sutartinės are traditional Lithuanian multi-part songs and have been recognized by UNESCO as ?Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity? in 2010. This piece expands upon a traditional Lithuanian sutartinė: ?U?augo liepa,? a story of a linden tree and a woman?s reverie.

The piece begins with a literal quotation of the original sutartinė and then takes you on an adventure ride, bringing the text of the story to life with a broad range of choral and pianistic colors, creatively expanding on the simple seeds of the source material.
