Solo piano intermediate arrangement of Dvorak's famous, Humoresque No. 7. This arrangement has been transposed from the original key of Gb major to the much simpler key of G major, and the left hand has been streamlined significantly. There are still some challenges that make this difficult for a late-beginner or early-intermediate, such as thirds in the right hand, inner voices in the right hand, moving positions freely, using many accidentals in non-uniform ways, and the expressiveness required to play this correctly. I hope you enjoy playing this beautiful piece from the all-time classical canon.

Key Signature: G majorTime Signature: 3/4Tempo: Vivace, ma ritmico (vivace, considerably, 148bpm)Difficulty: IntermediateWilliam Alwyn (1905-1985) Fantasy Waltzes: No. 8 in G Major The Fantasy Waltzes is a suite of eleven piano pieces composed in London between June 1954 and April 1955 and is arguably one of Alwyn’s finest works for piano solo. Alwyn uses the basic three-four waltz rhythm with a great variety of style, and much of the music has that of a romantic approach, although here and there are nods to the composer’s earlier neo-classical style. The idea for the Fantasy Waltzes originated while Alwyn was on holiday in Norway after a visit to Grieg’s lakeside home. Although conceived as a continuous cycle, the suite does divide into two parts, Nos. 1-6 and Nos. 7-11, which encompass many moods from happy to sad, to mysterious and solemn, with the eighth waltz being one of the most attractive of the set. The Fantasy Waltzes are dedicated to the New Zealand pianist Richard Farrell, who gave the first performance of the work in a BBC broadcast on 2nd June 1957. Less than a year later, Farrell’s promising career as a concert pianist was cut tragically short after being killed in a car accident. Alwyn admired Farrell’s playing greatly and dedicated the fifth of his Twelve Preludes for piano to Farrell’s memory.

This arrangement of Captain Picard's Air from the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Inner Light is fitted specifically to the range of a 26-string lever harp, like Harpsicle Harps or Dusty String Ravenna. While there are some complex rhythms and silences to count through, the notation itself is relatively simple -- intended to reflect the sparse, lonely/hopeful nature of the original song, which was played on a solo pennywhistle.It is written in the key of G Major (one sharp), which means it can be played on Harpsicle models that are not fully levered (e.g. Sharpsicles, as well as Fullsicles), and there are no lever changes or accidentals. If the harmonics are omitted, and the dotted rhythms counted carefully, this piece could be accessible to a late-beginner, at least from a technique standpoint. Beginner harpists who have little or no prior background in reading sheet music might struggle with the leger lines, though.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. The rest are key of C. No accidentals, busy left hand, tempo changes in some selections. Beginning tempo marks and fingerings are suggestions only; numbers below the notes indicate fingerings for left hand, and those above are for right hand. Inspired by my granddaughters' love of the knock-knock jokes based on the phrases; 'Knock-knock, who's there? Orange-orange who? orange you glad you're...' This is a rollicking piece with a swinging intro (repeated as bridge going into second A section) but segueing into a B section at a slower tempo and comprised completely of major sevenths! (all in broken chords and/or rolled chords with help for small hands by the use of damper pedal). Structure of a major 7th chord being: maj 3rd, m3rd, maj 3rd requires many accidentals in the B section. The mood surprises with a dramatic shift into this dreamy sequence created by these major sevenths which LH breaks up and RH answers with rolled same chord. Intro is sassy and attention-grabbing. With hands in unison, this familiar rhythmic pattern beginning with a very quick note (16th) with emphasis on the second note, introduces the first A section consisting of melody of broken chords with fun, fun lyrics that are tossed around between the hands in an antiphonal question/answer style. Interspersed are 5-finger position descending motifs as well as accompanying chords (or pieces of chords) placed on predictable beats for continuity and ease of learning. Chord progressions are unexpected and surprising, as are the 5-finger position motifs. Coda creates excitement by building D major full chord with hands in unison with much crescendo. Great for analyzing chords and 5-finger position melodies. Did you know the word 'orange' has no English rhyming word? I took that as a challenge and had FUN with the lyrics! Form: intro A interlude/bridge A coda Key of G harmonic minor w/lots of exploration into other majors and minors. Time signature 4/4. When singing the lyrics, I envision the first phrase being sung in a normal voice, the 2nd in an operatic voice, 3rd in a voice much like the 'Cookie Monster', and the 4th in a very childish voice. Tempo indication moderato, quarter note at 108 Lots of dynamic contrast. There is an optional advanced first violin part with some third position work to provide a challenge for more advanced players. The standard first violin is the same but an octave lower. This is my slightly more complex arrangement of Leaves from the Vine from the beloved animated series Avatar: the Last Airbender, as well as the more recent Netflix live-action adaptation by the same name. It is appropriate for intermediate harpists working with an instrument as small as 26 strings, ranging from the C below middle C to the third G above Middle C (though it can obviously also be played on a larger harp, as well). It is written in the key of B-flat Major with no accidentals or lever changes. As such, it could work on an instrument model without levers, so long as the instrument is tuned with Bs and Es flat. My own instrument is a Harpsicle Fullsicle Harp. But I believe it could also work, with one or two very minor modifications, on a Harp-E, some of the Roosebeck Pakistani harp models (though check your range to be sure), Dusty Strings Ravenna 26, or Musicmakers Sonnet 29.The intro, outro, and transitions of the song weave in a medley of other themes from Avatar: The Last Airbender, including excerpts from The Avatar's Love, Four Seasons, and the main title theme. The core of the arrangement, however, centers around on variations of Leaves from the Vine.I also have a simplified, beginner-appropriate arrangement of this piece published seperately. I ask permission to use pleonasm Sharp # function: raises the pitch of the note by a semitone up. Makes the note a semitone higher. B-flat function: lower the pitch of the note by a semitone down. Makes the note a semitone lower. Double sharp x or ## function: raise the pitch of the note by one step. Makes the note a higher pitch. Double-flat bb function: lower the pitch of the note by one tone. Makes the pitch of the note a lower pitch. Bequadro function (I can't make this signal by keyboard. That's why it's important to watch this class that will be on the cards in the upper right corner). Nullify both the sharp (whether it's doubled or not) and the flat function (whether it's doubled or not). The bequadro still cancels the accidents of the key signature. Lesson 10 Bars and bar numbers It is a vertical line placed on the pentagram. It serves to organize the writing of the score in a Cartesian way. When the amount of beats exceeds the measure, it is necessary to place the vertical line and continue in another measure. This is one of the reasons to know the bar count. Another reason is when a large group is going to rehearse a song and it is often necessary to stop the rehearsal in order to make necessary adjustments.
