This piece was a product of a couple nights of pondering. There are so many things to think about, and often times, we can get lost in a sea of thoughts. Thus, the middle section has a swirling effect. There are some things that are worthy of our thoughts (Philippians 4:8). When dwelt on, the Lord can open up our understanding as He shows us His Truth. If you have any questions or would like to use it publicly, please contact me at joshua.burgus2020@gmail.com. .

Many years later, the lyrics were changed to Happy Birthday etc., and the rest is history.Sometimes obvious, sometimes not: Happy Birthday’s chopped a lot!All the main themes are derived from parts of that tune. Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1208466 By Andy Williams. By Antonio Carlos Jobim and Gene Lees. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Film/TV,Jazz,Latin,Multicultural,Standards,World. Score. 8 pages. Timothy Stapay #806578. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1208466). My piano cover arrangement of Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars by Antonio Carlos Jobim.Corcovado (known in English as Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars) is a bossa nova song and jazz standard written by Antônio Carlos Jobim in 1960. English lyrics were later written by Gene Lees. The Portuguese title refers to the Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro.Tony Bennett recorded the first popular English cover of Quiet Nights with new lyrics by Buddy Kaye in 1963.  Numerous English cover recordings then followed sometimes credited to Lees and/or Kaye and Lees, including the Andy Williams recording of the song with English lyrics, reaching #92 in the Billboard Hot 100 and #18 in the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart in 1965. Also receiving air-play, contemporaneously with Andy Williams' recording of Quiet Nights, was Kitty Kallen's version. Her album, titled Quiet Nights, was released by 20th Century-Fox Records in 1964.Lyrics below:Quiet nights of quiet starsQuiet chords from my guitarFloating on the silence that surrounds usQuiet thoughts and quiet dreamsQuiet walks by quiet streamsAnd a window looking on the mountainsAnd the sea, so lovelyThis is where I want to beHere, with you so close to meUntil the final flicker of life's amberI who was lost and lonelyBelieving life was onlyA bitter tragic jokeHave found with youThe meaning of existence oh, my love

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024731 Composed by Thomas McConochie. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 28 pages. Thomas McConochie #3560891. Published by Thomas McConochie (A0.1024731). The three poems I have set to music are among the most famous in Chinese literature. They use wistful imagery to arouse bitter-sweet feelings. Morning in Springtime evokes images of beauty in Springtime such as dawn, chirping birds, but also countless beautiful flowers being blown down in a storm. Quiet Night Thoughts draws on imagery of the moon, associated with longing, to create a sense of sadness among the serenity of a quiet night. What I Most Pine For relates the mixed feelings of wishing one’s distant love well through alluding to the gifting of fruit as a symbol of love. This music is suitable for community and professional ensembles. The post-modern, minimalist style is accessible with pleasing melodies, harmonies, and modes throughout the music.

PROGRAM NOTES: The composer writes about his work: The woodwind quintet is one of my favorite mediums: the individual personality of each musical instrument on one hand, and the homogeneity that can skilfully be achieved on the other hand, stimulated my imagination for a long time. The titles of the movements represent my own plot thoughts and associations behind each story: The First is a meeting of five friends willing to play together while one of them is being considerably late. The second is my association to a native ceremonial dance. The third, reminds me of a light breeze on a lazy summer night, while sitting on front of the porch. The fourth describes a person gazing at the fire flames, controlled like a marionette by the wind. The fifth is a sinking / floating memory, and last, a discussion about how a fugue should sound. Nevertheless, this is only my view of the music. I would like to invite the listeners to find their own association, and create their individual stories.MOVEMENTS: 1. The Meeting2. Native Dance3. Flute,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1042377 Composed by Jamie Farrow. Classical,Contemporary. Score and part. 12 pages. Jamie Farrow #647168. Published by Jamie Farrow (A0.1042377). This is a piece for flute and piano duo. Fastnet Rock, home to the Fastnet Lighthouse, is Ireland’s most southerly point situated in the Atlantic Ocean, famous for massive waves that engulf the island during storms. Three photographs (see below) and the lighthouse’s history were my inspiration for this duet, with the different images and ideas that they created, influencing my composition’s structure, themes and ideas at play. The piece starts at sunset and finishes at sunrise, with four sections each representing a different moment that follow a gradually developing structure through the first three sections before a gentle reprise of the ideas from Section 1 (S1) in Section 4 (S4). This gives a cyclicity to the piece, furthered by the tonal regions explored in each of the sections; Ebmaj to Amin to Bmin to Amin to Ebmaj. S1 invokes thoughts of the colours of sunset It is divided into four sub-sections, characterised by either solo flute or flute with piano, with each section exploring a different range of colours generated by their keys. Throughout, accidentals provide additional colour reminiscent of light diffracted during a sunset with the piano in the duo section voiced low in its range adding warmth explored through pivot chords. The flute plays in a very free recitative style, allowing the flautist individual expression emphasising the organicity of sunset as each performer will express this section differently. Section 2 (S2) and Section 3 (S3) are closely related, focusing on night-time through to sunrise in S4, with S2 providing the build up to the events of S3. In S2 the piano plays at the extremes of its range with widely spaced chords and no sense of beat, creating stillness and a sense of uneasiness through the constantly and irregularly beating A. The flute represents the rising storm and wind playing an organically-evolving motif beginning low in range, before gradually adding more notes and slowly rising, eventually reaching a dramatic climax which explores the extremities of its range whilst accelerating into S3. The drama and large gestures of S3 represent an Atlantic storm, a wall of oscillating sound through repeated piano ostinatos and constant use of the sustain pedal. Coupled with the frequently changing time-signature creating a sense of wild waves rolling in the ocean, the chordal bars percussively suggesting waves hitting the island. The flute captures the drama and emotion of the storm and the whistling wind, with long rising and falling gestures exploring the instrument’s very extremities. S4 brings the morning after the storm. We hear the same flute idea as in S1, this time played in the sadder Amin, communicating a sense of loss and despair following the storm. The piano emulates the now gently lapping waves against the rocks of Fastnet with the triplet motif in the bass. The right-hand of the piano plays a chordal accompaniment as in S1 but much slower, representing the slowly emerging colours of a sunrise which become richer and richer like the chords before the sunrise in the final few bars with a move into Ebmaj.

French Horn,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1416184 Composed by Robert Schumann. Arranged by Layne Anspach. Classical. Score and part. 62 pages. Songburd Music #997868. Published by Songburd Music (A0.1416184). ROBERT SCHUMANN was a German pianist, music critic and one of the great composers of the Romantic Period who, in an earlier part of his career, was generally critical of the compositional works for piano and voice of his day, and consequently the greater number of his compositions throughout the 1830s were written mostly for piano.  Then came the year of 1840, considered to be Schumann’s liedarjahr (year of song), when he composed nearly half of his life’s best-known works, featuring some of the greatest liederkreis (song cycles) ever written for voice and piano.  One of his widely celebrated song cycles is the well-known Dichterliebe, Op. 48, which is based on a fanciful story of a knight who experiences rejection and love lost, giving us an insight into Schumann’s interests as a ballad writer, melding dramatic irony with his introspective nature and musical style. Schumann’s talent for combining dramatic lyrics with pleasing melodies is clearly seen in the moving lieder (songs) of his repertoire, and his Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love) is thought to be the paramount work among his song cycles.  Achieved in part by drawing upon the lyric poetry of Heinrich Heine, a German author, poet and literary critic whose political activism among the Junges Deutschland (Young Germans) of the 1830s and 1840s instigated at one point the banning of his works in Germany, leading him to become an expatriate who spent his final years living in Paris, France. Notably, the Romantic Period in Germany is thought to have had its roots in the Sturm und Drang (Storm and Stress) of the late 1700s and was certainly influenced to some degree by the French Revolution, which contrasted itself to the rationalism of the fading period of the Age of Enlightenment.  Thus, the ideological movement of the Young Germans, and its reactive stance to the Romanticism of the era, adds some contrast to Heine’s lyric poetry, which expressed personal emotions and the irony of love, solidified in his Buch der Lieder (Book of Songs) that was published in 1827. Divided into five sections, Heine’s Book of Songs dealt with issues of unrequited love, romanticism, and introspection, and it was from the more than 60 poems of the lyrical cycle Lyrisches Intermezzo (Lyrical Intermezzo) that Schumann found inspiration for his noteworthy song cycle, selecting 16 of Heine’s lyric poems for his Dichterliebe.  For this arrangement, German lyrics are included to assist the performer in connecting the music to the thoughts, feelings, and specific moments expressed in the words that might otherwise be lost if not aligned with the music.  Noting that changes in mood or tone of the music are better understood when aligned with the words, and by including the lyrics, the performer can phrase a passage while having a guide to see the end of the musical line. Romantic lieder allows for rubato in performance, as playing the piece exactly as written on the page will result in a less inspiring rendition.  To match the horn’s register with the vocal line, the piano part required alterations by moving some notation higher in the register.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869295 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 149 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #431379. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869295). Instrumentation: 3222-4231-timp-2perc-hp-chorus-strings Program note:It has been a wonderful two years of thinking, learning and working on my Continental Harmony Project with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. It is a rare occasion that a composer in the 21st century would receive a commission to write a musical work of such scale: a 40-minute piece for symphony orchestra, 200-plus chorus and a ballet company. At the Bangor Public Library I found some wonderful evocative 19th century texts for the chorus about the city of Bangor and its environs: the Penobscot River, Mt. Ktaadn, the logging industry, the native American culture, etc. At times I felt overwhelmed, but most of the times I was exuberant and quite inspired by the music that came forth in the process. The premiere is less than a month away, and I am looking forward to it. Susan Jonason, Executive Director of the Bangor Symphony, has made the occasion a very public one: a free concert on a Saturday evening! I hope the audience will go home humming the tunes from the work as they walk into the crisp, cool Bangor night.Formally the work is in five movements. The first, third and fifth movements are choral, and the two in between are orchestral. In the premiere, the Robinson Ballet will dance in the orchestral movements. The first movement is about the Penobscot River from winter to spring. The melting of the ice is a harbinger of things to come: warmer weather, for instance; but it has also contributed to a lot of flooding in the city of Bangor and its surroundings. The second movement is a waltz, a grand 19th century ballroom waltz for the ladies of the rich lumber barons. They come to the ball showing off their latest hats and gowns from London, Paris and Milan. The third movement is about the woods and the people who work in them. Thoreau’s text about Mt. Ktaadn is full of awesome thoughts about how nature is beautiful, yet unkind to man. It is followed by a J.G. Whittier lyric entitled The Logger’s Boast. The original song had twenty stanzas to it. I whittled it down to five. I don’t know what the original song sounded like, so I made up my own version of a lumberjack’s drinking song. The fourth movement is a wild, drunken polka. After a long week of working in the woods the lumbermen come back to the city and spend all their earnings on booze, women and gambling. And they dance the night away …The last movement begins with a funeral march for Joe Attien, a native American who was Thoreau’s guide when he came up here in the 1900’s. The work ends with a rousing march, a centennial hymn to the city of Bangor. God bless our city Bangor, now! On this its birthday morn …NB: The two ballet movements, II. La Valse and IV. Drunken Polka, are optional.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1225840 By Rainer Fabich Orchestra. By Rainer Fabich. Arranged by Rainer Fabich. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV. Score and Parts. 212 pages. Fajora Music #821876. Published by Fajora Music (A0.1225840). RAGING FURIES - Rasende FurienGoddesses of revenge - Göttinnenn der RageConcert Piece for big orchestra - Score and PartsThe image of the raging furies as a topos has permeated the world of thoughts and images of mankind for thousands of years and has inspired and fascinated countless artists. This idea is also based on an emotional background, a violent, uncontrolled emotional outburst, a rage (Latin: furor, in the sense of frenzy, passion and madness, French: rage). The resulting affect action is described as rage or fury, combined with a state of mind of uncontrolled excitement in the sense of being beside oneself or out of one's senses. The personification of these affects was in Greek and Roman mythology with the trio of vengeance goddesses, the Erinyens (Latin furia) called: Alekto (the incessant, the never resting), Megaira (German: Megäre, the envious anger) and Tisiphone (the Vengeance avenging the murder, represented with a dog's head and bat's wings), and another, that of Nemesis (the reconciling justice). Already in antiquity they were depicted in sculptures, embossed on coins or immortalized as images on amphorae. They appear in all eras of fine arts, sometimes in female, male or androgynous form, e.g. as avenging angels, or as hybrid beings between humans and animals. Pictures by Albrecht Dürer, Hieronymus Bosch, Tizian, Peter Paul Rubens, William Hamilton, Johann Heinrich Fuessli, Franz von Stuck, Alfred Kubin, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, Yongbo Zhao and many others are proof of this. They found their way into the literature of Virgil (Aeneis), Dante (Divine Comedy) or John Milton (Paradise Lost). Goethe lets them appear in Faust II, Schiller (Die Kraniche des Ibykus) and many others refer to them directly or in a modified form, such as Kurt Tucholsky (Gripsholm Palace), Alfred Döblin (Berlin Alexanderplatz), Max Frisch (Homo Faber) or Jean-Paul Sartre (The Flies). In opera, they become an important element in highly dramatic scenes, especially on themes with a mythological or historical background, often also related to the underworld, as in Monteverdi (Il Ritorno d`Ulisse in Patria), Lully (Armide), Gluck (Orpheus and Euridice) or Purcell (Dido and Aeneas). Haendel dedicates an aria to them in Rinaldo, the Furie Terribili. Mozart also uses it in The Magic Flute, in his aria Der Hölle Rache by the Queen of the Night.Furies appear up to the present in various forms, in comics, fantasy novels, computer games, or kung fu films of the 70s (Furies on the yellow river). They are even popular as plastic children's toys, mostly in particularly frightening and creepy presentations (Matchbox/Fighting Furies or Warhammer/Erinnye). This remarkable history and reception inspired Rainer Fabich to create this new orchestral work from his MYThS series. PEGASUS - Ride on Wings, ULYSSES - Prélude to an Odyssey and THE AMONZS - Myth and Projection have already been released. As the title suggests, this is frantically wild music (Allegro molto vivace) that seems to run away, like an action film with fast motives and runs of strings and woodwinds, combined with strong accents of brass and massive percussion Set. Alternations of straight and asymmetrical beats illustrate erratic sequences of movement, as are typical of scenes with the highest intensity, especially in films (e.g. a chase). In the jazzy middle section, the furies calm down a little, before they pick up speed again in a bombastic third section and increase to the point of ecstasy.

This piano solo captures the beauty of their flight as they glide so effortlessly through the air. There’s A Cow In The Garden Eating The Flowers Inspired by the memory of seeing an unexpected cow in the garden! This surreal image is captured in a quirky waltz, as I portray both the absurdity of the moment and the sense of wonder I felt as a child. The final phrase articulates my longing: ‘I wish it would come again’.Watching The World Go By A short, reflective piece, remembering what it was like to have time to just sit and watch the world go by from my bedroom window.Autumn Skies A miniature about the beauty of Autumn skies and the poignant sense of loss for a summer gone.Friends I was fortunate to have several children of my own age living close by. We seemed to be forever making dens, playing out in the street and generally enjoying each other’s company. This piece reflects that sense of well-being.Snake In The Pond One hot summer I was astonished and scared to see a grass snake cooling off in our garden pond! I watched, both horrified and fascinated, as it rose up from the depths and then disappeared again.Morning Commute I recollect many mornings stuck in traffic as my Dad took me to school on his way to work. We may not have chatted a lot, but it was always good to be together with my Dad, lost in our own thoughts. The Witch’s Cottage My siblings and I had a fascination with a small cottage nearby. It was set back from the road in a dark part of the woods and we called it 'the witch's cottage’. Every time we passed, I imagined I heard the distant cackle of the witch and wished I could catch a glimpse of her. These pieces are written to complement my other collection, Night Time Impressions, which also draw on childhood recollections, particularly of the woods behind the house where I grew up.Sarah Baker2023.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1435022 By Ivajla Kirova. By KEYA. 21st Century,Classical,New Age. Score. 8 pages. The Noise Factory #1015125. Published by The Noise Factory (A0.1435022). This was inspired by the story of a homeless man my grandmother met in her neighbourhood when she was young. Everyone thought he was insane but my grandmother did not think so since he always carried poetry writings and artworks with him wherever he went. My grandmother befriended him and during one of their conversations on the street he told her that he spent his life writing poems, drew portraits of the women he loved, and acknowledges that “life is nothing but a dream”. One day this homeless man disappeared and it wasn’t until a few weeks later that he was rumoured to have passed away one rainy night inside an abandoned house which was his childhood home. This piece intends to describe that man’s thoughts and feelings during his final moments: his lifetime memories, his final acceptance, and true inner peace before saying goodbye to this world.
