Scenes of Singapore is a collection of 89 short piano pieces highlighting scenes of life in Singapore. The intent of this is similar to Edvard Grieg's Lyric Pieces, where he composed 66 short pieces with nationalistic sentiments. The difficulty of the pieces ranges from Intermediate to Advanced Intermediate.Each piece in the suite is fashioned after one of Singapore's constituencies from the 2015 General Election. From each constituency, I have taken the first letter from its name and given the piece a title to reflect the identity of the area there. The music was then composed around that particular identity. The entire suite was composed in 2019 over a period of about 4 months and because it was not on time for National Day, I only officially released the suite in early August 2020 instead. Published by Music Innovators Workshop (A0.984770). Earlier, I hesitated to publish this version that I arranged several years ago. This piece is so very well known and loved that I was concerned that a simpler version would not be well received. I recently changed my mind after playing through this version. This arrangement opens up playing this piece to many pianists who may find the original too daunting a challenge. Players and listeners will find that the arrangement sounds very much like the original. Some listeners may find it a little less full sounding - most won't be able to tell the difference.Here are the differences. (Of course its written on tablature, but that's a different issue.) First, the simpler version is not simple. It is very difficult. It just is not as difficult as the original. Second, it sounds very much like the original. It is a very full arrangement. The whole piece is there. It has not been shortened.The simplification consists mainly of removing some, but not all, of the doubling and tripling of notes. This lightens the feel of the piece just a bit. The recap of the theme at the end is simplified by changing the 4 note chords to 3 note chords, Where the right hand leaves the chords and moves very quickly down to double two bass notes and immediately back up to find the chords again, and again, the arrangement omits these few notes to leave the right hand where it is to play the chords.

Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai and Malachi contain many passages that point out the sin of the people. Joshua, the current high priest, is pictured in one of Zechariah’s visions as wearing filthy apparel, desperately needing cleansing. Sheep in Bible times are grown more for their wool and milk, not so much for the slaughterhouse. Zechariah likens the leadership of Judah to shepherds and flock owners who are primarily concerned with selling meat. But there is a good shepherd who intervenes to lead the flock. He is mistreated by the owners and the shepherds and paid the price of a slave for his efforts. The good shepherd, casts the price on the floor for the potter.♫ Zechariah is looking ahead to a time when the religious leaders of Judah were short on compassion and the needs of people. Jesus called Himself the Good Shepherd. We see several parallel’s here in John 10. He called the religious leaders of His day, thieves and robbers, and predators. It came to me at 3am yesterday and I went into my studio to notate it. It's a dreamy, soothing and sometimes soaring piece that reminded me of the octopus from the amazing documentary My Octopus Teacher. Part 1 is possibly more beginner intermediate, and I think some of the parts can be played as individual solos. I've included a link to the youtube demo on the score with an above hands view and a light up keyboard so that students can follow the score and listen.My husband and children loved this piece when they heard it, so I'm excited to have it published for others to learn and play. Part 3 was an idea from a piece I improvized in the Tottenham Court tube station a few years ago (yes, there was a piano in the tube station, and there should be a piano in every tube station as far as I'm concerned :) The theme I played that day never left me and it seemed to fit here. I wrote an expanded version of part 3 called Flight in D major that I hope to include on my website singplaystudios.com and here in a few weeks, so if you like part 3, I hope you'll check that piece out too. I plan to include this work in my 20 Beautiful Piano Solos book 3 (please find the first two books and many other repertoire and ear training books on Amazon). Thank you for considering learning this piece. QUARTET FOR FLUTE, CLARINET, BASSOON AND HARP (1994) Set of PartsDURATION: 27 minutes MOVEMENTS: 4 movements INSTRUMENTATION: Flute/Piccolo; Clarinet; Bassoon; Harp PROGRAM NOTES: The composer writes about his work: The Quartet for flute, clarinet bassoon and harp is influenced by impressionistic French music and Jazz, which was my main influence at the time. The first movement starts with a pastoral character, somewhat naive, but soon starts to raise some concerned thoughts, and so, ends dark. The second movement is a light flowing movement built on pentatonic scale theme. A Bassoon cadenza bridges between the second and the third movement, which is a long Passacaglia with lamento character. In the last movement, piccolo is used instead of flute. This movement opens with a fugue between the four instruments, which leads to a lyrical second theme followed by harp solo and ends with a Grand Finale.
