A gospel Candle Lighting Ceremony for Advent Designed to support the lighting of the Advent candles, this includes a choral opening based on the gospel hymn, "Jesus, the Light of the World," followed by a call and response litany with piano underscore, then a text to be read with the lighting of the candle. As that concludes, the choir comes back in with the option of adding the congregation for a final refrain of the hymn. A concluding prayer is also provided. There are five readings, one for each candle. A reproducible part for the congregation is included.

Hymn writer Fred Pratt Green has added two contemporary stanzas which brings the meaning into our lives today with words such as, "Come, dearest child, into our hearts, and leave your crib behind you! Let this be where the new life starts for all who seek and find you." The new, original music soars in melodic grandeur. Useful for Christmas and the season of Epiphany - calling to "break forth, O heavenly light!".

The Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) is committed to cultivating Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access in the international guitar community and in the repertoire published for the instrument. Many factors, including a composer's race, gender, and sexual orientation, have historically created a narrow representation of our community in the classical music canon. For this first volume of the GFA Spotlight Series, the GFA commissioned seven new works by composers of color. The second volume of this series will follow with seven transcriptions of existing pieces by composers of color. These commissioned pieces and transcriptions were premiered by students in the GFA Mentorship Program in 2021.
With this collection, the guitar takes a step towards a more inclusive and representative repertoire that nurtures creativity and inclusion for generations of guitarists to come.
