Luke 1:46-55.Commissioned by Todd Wilson for Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio, this setting has exactly what you'd think it would: a stunning organ part and challenging choral writing. Although the Anglican lineage of these texts is apparent in the declamation of the text (largely homophonic) and the way the organ functions (commenting here, exclaiming there,) there is much more creativity here. A kaleidoscope of moods, rhythms, and colors heightens the meaning and elevates the emotions. Not to be missed.

Luke 1:46-55; Luke 2:29-32.There is a strong and enduring relationship that has been forged between the Roman Catholic Benedictine Abbey of St. Mary and St. Louis, and the Episcopal Church of St. Michael & St. George in St. Louis, Missouri. Each season, the monks visit and sing Vespers at the church and, in turn, the Choir of the Church of St. Michael & St. George travels to the Abbey to sing Evensong. This setting of the evening canticles was composed for one such visit. The stunning acoustics of the Abbey Church are captured fully by the its slow harmonic motion and expansive writing.Duration: 6:15.

UPC: 749193007761.The Magnificat and Nunc Dimmitis come to life in two memorable Biblical scenes: (1) Young Mary, visiting her older cousin, Elizabeth, sings of her great joy to be the mother of the Christ Child. (2) Mary and Joseph taking the infant Jesus to the temple where the wise, aging Simeon declared that God's promise to him was fulfilled. These settings can be sung as general anthems or as integral parts of Vespers or Evensongs. The flute ostinato and the introductory choral measures are motifs from Magnificat by J. S. Bach.
