This piano ballad is dedicated to a friend of mine who wrote the words.PERFORMANCE SUGGESTIONSThough not written in the score, I encourage the pianist to use the damper pedal to bolster the harmony and create the pensive quality that piano ballads have, as well as to feel free to add your own interpretation to the solos. As for the vocal part, both males and females can sing it. The singing should feel easy, but not lacking sentiment when words or harmonies call for it, especially the funereal ending.A typical performance should last 7-8 minutes.

Inkawu the Monkey is the thirteenth in a series of fifteen original contemporary compositions for piano, titled 15 Animal Compositions for Piano and created to musically describe the movement and habits of specific wildlife creatures. From music notes to words: Inkawu the monkey is very naughty and mischievous. Having spent the morning sitting in the sun while some females searched his fur for fleas, he is now in a hilariously expressive mood. Swinging from the branches of a huge African tree, he mocks everything and everybody around him, mimicking a scornful dance with his weird movements and giving the impression of being a funny clown in a circus. When he comes across a car loaded with passengers on a narrow road between the trees, he jumps straight onto the bonnet of the vehicle, pressing his face on the front window and pulling faces to amuse the surprised audience inside. He grins when they feed him oranges through a small opening of a nearly closed window and refusing to leave, he sits on the bonnet for almost an hour, filling up his tummy and satisfying his taste buds with the juicy citrus fruits. When he finally leaps off the car, he continues his merry ragtime dance until he disappears between the trees..

They believed that animals, plants and even rocks had a life and a spirit. And they considered trees to be the most important elements. Trees symbolized life: the roots were in the Underworld, the branches in the Otherworld and the trunk in the Middle Earth. Trees gave the Celtics wood to build homes and weapons and to shelter them from the cold. They also shielded them from the sun with their shadow. Trees gave them fruit to eat and they lodged birds, the messengers of the Gods, in their branches. Trees protected people’s spirits and so each person was assigned a sacred tree according to their date of birth.Even today we still have spirits and objects that protect us. In the case of artists, their own art is often their protector. The title of this song refers to the ivory angel, the piano, however, this song is dedicated to all the instruments that help us express ourselves and prevent us from being lonely, silent or forgotten. Die Kinder des Dorfes nehmen ihre Selbstversorgung und zugleich die Reorganisation des ziemlich verlotterten Gemeinwesens in die Hand, bis zum guten Schluss alles wieder ins Lot kommt. Diese Science-Fiction-Vorgabe dient als Folie für klare pädagogische Botschaften, die zum Zeitpunkt der Erstveröffentlichung der Romanvorlage sicher aktuell waren und von denen einige genannt seien: Ursache allen �bels ist der Alkoholmissbrauch, denn er führt zu Streit und Faulheit. Disziplin, Ordnung, Sauberkeit, Gruppenkonformes und normales Rollenverhalten (die Mädchen sorgen für die Harmonie und das Kochen, die Jungen können gut rechnen, sind handwerklich begabt und haben das Sagen) sind die besten Heilmittel gegen die Entgleisungen der Erwachsenenwelt und werden von den Kindern exemplarisch durchexerziert. Aber auch unter den Kindern gibt es Au�enseiter: sie kommen von au�erhalb des Dorfes, sind Fremde mit niederem sozialen Status (Kesselflicker), stehlen, sind aufsässig, wortbrüchig, voll krimineller Energie und müssen im Sinne der Gruppe diszipliniert werden. Da dies jedoch nicht gelingt, bleibt nur die Ausweisung aus dem Dorf, abgemildert durch die Gabe einiger Brote, damit die Ausgewiesenen nicht hungern müssen. Die Musik des in seinen Absichten eindeutigen Stückes ist recht jugendwirksam aufgemacht.
