Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746509). A march dedicated to the Heroes of Telemark entitled ''Heltane frå Telemark (Sabateurs March). The melodies come from vest telemark where I worked from 2001-2006 as Band Director to Kviteseid Hornmusik. The melodies used in this new march entitled 'The Heroes of Telemark' are songs from Norway, Kviteseidsangen and Fjaasesundsangen are from Vest Telemark in Southern Norway, while Mellom bakker og berg is an old melody by Ludvig Mathias Lindeman (1812-1887). Keith Terrett has re-harmonised and orchestrated these fine melodies into an exciting march, in honour of the gallant 'Heroes of Telemark'. Edvard Grieg composed his Funeral March in Memory of Rikard Nordraak in 1866, in honour of his friend and fellow Norwegian composer Rikard Nordraak, who had died in March of that year at the age of 23. Grieg deeply respected his fellow musician and took no delay in producing the work. The march was originally written as a piano piece in A minor; Grieg also produced transcriptions of it for brass choir and wind band, in Bâ™ minor. Grieg valued the work greatly, bringing it along on all of his travels. In one letter he made it clear that he wished the piece to be played at his own funeral, as best as possible. It was played, in an orchestration by Grieg's friend and colleague Johan Halvorsen. This edition follows Grieg's own instrumentation but in a modern transposisition for the piccolo, flutes, trumpets, horns and trombones.

The British Grenadiers is a traditional marching song of British, Australian and Canadian military units whose badge of identification features a grenade, the tune of which dates from the 17th century. It is the Regimental Quick March of the Royal Artillery (since 1716), Corps of Royal Engineers (since 1787), the Honourable Artillery Company (since 1716), Grenadier Guards 'The First (later 'Grenadier') Regiment of Foot Guards' (since 1763), and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (since 1763). It is also an authorised march of the Royal Australian Artillery, The Royal Gibraltar Regiment, The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, The Royal Regiment of Canada, The Princess Louise Fusiliers, and The 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles. The standard orchestration for the military band was approved in 1762, when the Royal Artillery Band (initiated in 1557) became recognised officially, and for all other 'grenade' regiments in 1763, when the remaining unofficial bands gained official status. The march is often used on Horesguards Parade and at many royal engagements by the British Army.

Here is a brief description of the work by composer John Frith: It is well documented that at Beethoven's funeral on March 26th, 1827, a choir of trombones and male voices made appropriate music. This is not that music, but rather an attempt to recreate something of the sombre mood of that historic occasion. The work was written in honour of Rubén Carughi and Trombonanza friends for an 8-part low brass ensemble with moderately advanced performers with an instrumentation of:1 Alto Trombone, 5 Tenor Trombones, Euphonium/Trombone and Tuba/Bass Trombone

Johann Strauss I (German: Johann Baptist Strauß, Johann Strauss (Vater); also Johann Baptist Strauss, Johann Strauss Sr., the Elder, the Father; 14 March 1804 – 25 September 1849) was an Austrian Romantic composer. He was famous for his waltzes, and he popularized them alongside Joseph Lanner, thereby setting the foundations for his sons to carry on his musical dynasty. He is best known for his composition of the Radetzky March (named after Joseph Radetzky von Radetz).In 1835 he composed one of his most beautiful waltzes – Elisabethen Walzer.Strauss died in Vienna on 25 September 1849 at the age of 45 from scarlet fever contracted from one of his illegitimate children. He was buried at the Döblinger cemetery beside his friend Joseph Lanner. In 1904, both of their remains were transferred to the graves of honour at the Zentralfriedhof. The former Döbling Cemetery is now a Strauss-Lanner Park. Hector Berlioz himself paid tribute to the 'Father of the Viennese Waltz' by commenting that Vienna without Strauss is like Austria without the Danube.
