Three Preludes by George Gershwin, originally published for the Piano in 1926, have been beautifully arranged for brass quintet by Robert Coulter. About 6 minutes in length, the Preludes are jazzy, bluesy and a lot of fun to play, plus, very entertaining for audiences. This arrangement is appropriate for advanced performers and is scored for 2 trumpets in b-flat, horn, trombone and tuba. Prelude No. 1 has a bluesy motif with a strong jazz feel. Prelude No. 2, Blue Melody, is a melancholy song with a blues feel using lots of sevenths and a major/minor duality. Its middle section is more upbeat featuring the tuba. Prelude No. 3, Spanish Prelude features lots of syncopations and a battle between major & minor with the major winning out in the end. This work will make a fantastic addition to your concert.

This is a brilliant arrangement of the first movement Longing of William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony for a brass choir of four B-flat trumpets, four horns in F, three trombones, euphonium and tuba. William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony was one of the most significant classical orchestra compositions of the early 1930s to incorporate African-American folk influences. Premiered by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in October 1931 at conductor Howard Hanson's notable American Music Festival, it brought the melancholy flavor of the Blues to the symphony. For William Grant Still the Blues was a distinct African-American musical contribution, separate from the spiritual and popular jazz, and he wanted to incorporate it into a symphonic work based on Western classical symphonic instrumentation and forms. As part of the early 20th Century Harlem Renaissance in New York City, this work was enthusiastically received across the USA and overseas. A beautiful, melancholy 4-part madrigal by English composer John Bennet. The title, Weep, O Mine Eyes is a reference to John Dowland's Flow, My Tears. Here arranged for trumpet, horn, trombone, and tuba. Would also work well for large brass ensembles. Euphonium TC and BC parts provided as an alternative (or in addition) to tuba. If you have slightly different instrumentation requirements, the arranger is willing to provide additional parts upon request.
