Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.882115 Composed by Samuel Wellman. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 8 pages. Samuel Wellman #3379927. Published by Samuel Wellman (A0.882115). Philip Glass, move over. Here's my first minimalist work, happily not in a key, but atonal, and with an odd meter: 7/8. My piece starts quietly, builds inexorably to a huge climax, and then subsides, as notes drop out one by one, leaving the bare texture with which the piece began.

Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797760 Composed by Lionel Bart. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Contemporary. Score and parts. 8 pages. Derek Hasted #5197285. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797760). AS LONG AS HE NEEDS ME (Oliver) - GUITAR DUETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar. This poignant yet uplifting piece is from the stage show & film Oliver and is another fine example of Lionel Bart's craftsmanship with melody.Derek Hasted writes This makes a delightful 'quiet piece' in a concert - many of the audience will know the music and my arrangement has been crafted to make an accessible duet that generates rich chords without complexity - the work is split across the players. The first guitar part goes high up the neck, but the music is slow and the shapes are straightforward. The second guitar part requires the 6th string to be tuned down to D and there are a couple of chords that require three fingers to be placed simultaneously, but there are lots of open strings throughout the piece that help improve the sustain and flow. The bottom D provides real depth to this piece and the sound is full and lush for minimal effort. The last chord has a thick bass that creates the illusion of an even deeper D to end the piece.I have also arranged Where Is Love by Lionel Bart for solo guitar and for flute/guitar duet - you can find them here or via my wwebsite (below)>br>I hope you enjoy this piece!

Concert Band - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1402009 Composed by James Smith. Contest,Festival,Instructional. 26 pages. James Smith #985205. Published by James Smith (A0.1402009). Chill out with this selection intended for first-year players, Time Out. Written with the first 4 notes of the A minor blues scale in mind, and using only 6 different notes, younger players will find instant success when learning its catchy bass line and repeated rhythms.Time Out can be performed by a minimal concert ensemble of flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and percussion, and uses the A minor blues scale (A, C, D, Eâ™). I am incredibly excited to offer this selection to you in a effort to diversify concert band music repertoire for younger player that avoids using typical key signatures, but does not veer too far away from standard practices. It is suggested that players practice playing the first few notes of the concert Bâ™ scale (Bâ™, C, D, Eâ™), then swapping out concert Bâ™ for concert A. Make sure measures 1-3 are accurately learned by the wind players before learning the rest of the piece. In measure 39, there is a glissando, or “fall†that might be seen in jazz music. (The playback does not support accurate sounds for this effect.) Have players find a random high note, then all descend to the low register of their instruments within 4 beats through fingerings, slides, etc.View more of my catalog here at linktr.ee/jamessmithmusic.

Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria for Alto Flute & Piano

(+)
Flute,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549354 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3490015. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549354). This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Alto Flute & Piano, S0.661753. The convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide an option for extended performance with minimal page turns for the accompanist. The duration with repeat is about 4:50. Score: 6 pages. Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Based on Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Well suited for church meditations or school programs or recital encores. Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. Â
