The music follows on from the much easier pieces in The River at the End of Day. They are ideal for elementary pianists, but of course could be used with beginners of all ages. More experienced students will find them ideal and enjoyable sight-reading exercises or to develop the useful skill of transposing at sight. The colorful pieces are arranged in approximate order of difficulty, so you can feel free to pick and mix according to the needs of the students. Most of the pieces use eighth notes (quavers), quarter notes (crotchets), half notes (minims) and whole notes (semibreves). Each piece takes up just one page. With attractive melodies and interesting harmonies several of them could be strung together to create a suite for a student recital. Many of the fingerings are provided but sometimes the choice of fingering is left for the teacher and student to decide. For more advanced students, these pieces can serve a useful function either as sight-reading exercises or for transposing at sight, a skill that is sometimes neglected. The sample audio clip contains the following pieces from the collection: (1) Dance to the Rising Sun; (2) Song of the Tree Spirits; (3) Mountain Dance; (9) Hymn to the Stars and (10) Night Dance.

Hakka is identified as the common theme running through three pieces for solo clarinet, and clarinet and piano duet, written for students of beginner, intermediate, and intermediate/advanced levels: Singing in the Hakka Village, Mountain Dance, and Song of Soaring Mountains. It takes students to expand simple elements into examples of expression by employing changes in dynamics, tempos, and ornaments. The tune by the ethnic group Hakka is rooted in triadic arpeggiations. Supplied with techniques such as call and response, tempo modulations, and extreme register shifts, one shall recognize these techniques meant to depict not only the geographical features where the Hakka villages often situate but also practices in Chinese traditional music and contemporary music. CMTNC (Chinese Music Teachers Association of Northern California) Commission Series is a collection of musical works for a set of twelve pieces for violin, piano, cello, and clarinet (three pieces for each instrument written for beginner, intermediate, and intermediate/advanced students; with or without piano accompaniment). For Solo Piano with Guitar chord diagrams.Traditional dances in ancient Armenia were essential to celebrations, holidays, rituals, social gatherings and more. This medley of Western Armenian music in 10/8 is drawn from the Anatolian song-dance tradition and perpetuated in America. In Sirahar Yem (“I'm In Love”), the Left Hand reinforces the stressed beats within the rhythmic pattern, emphasizing beats 1, 4, and 6. Beats are grouped as 3 2 2 3. Initially, this may be a challenge to play but well worth the effort to expand one’s musicianship skills! While harmony is sparingly interspersed in the inner parts, or created in intervals of 3rds and 6ths, traditionally, the ceremonial/wedding melodies Candle Dance and Hars Oo Pesa (“Bride and Groom”) are monophonic. Due to the mountainous terrain in historic Armenia and challenge of travel between villages, these two dances exist with different melodies, depending on the region. The dance steps also vary by village. In contrast, the use of a sustained note (drone) in the bass clef alters the spirit in Hars Oo Pesa where the key also changes to D major. Whereas the piano has limitations in replicating microtones of folk wind instruments such as the zurna used in an authentic Armenian village wedding, the aim in this arrangement is rather to preserve the spirit of the melody and actively engage the amateur pianist.For more information on Armenian music, refer to : Kazarian, Hachig. Published by Vessela Stoyanova (A0.1201464). “Mountain Goats and Other Creatures†was Commissioned by Rachel Jayson and the Lexington High School Symphony Orchestra.It was inspired by the folk music of my native land of Bulgaria, informed by my experience as a rock musician, reimagined through the lense of my place inside of a community of like-minded artists and musicians, where I have made my real home today. The first movement - Mountain Goats - is a sort of celebration of renewal, promise, and hope. It represents the tenacious will of grass growing through the snow of early spring, the powerful longing for human connection, the warmth of the sun against your skin on a bright chilly day. It carries both the pristine optimism of youth, and the nervous energy of trying something for the first time. The second movement - Samodivi - in contrast is dark, heavy and full of passion and desire. According to Balkan myths, Samodivi are gorgeous nymphs who live in the woods and often seduce men with their beautiful song and dance. They are feared and envied at the same time. The music of the second movement represents the mysterious dark forest at night - lower strings create the moss under your feet, higher strings use extended techniques to simulate the noise of branches clicking the wind, a few soloists represent different creatures - both real and imaginary - scurry through the woods above your head. Then you hear the lone song of a Samodiva in the distance, your heart is beating hard, your steps are leading you straight towards the call against your better judgement. It is the ancient story of fear and desire, of self control and complete abandon. You, the listener, become witness to a wild dance, fire in the woods, snakes in their long blond hairs, slender bodies dressed in white clouds dancing to an imaginary beat.  Then it all ends abruptly and you left to wonder: Was it real? Did I see it? Am I safe?The third and final movement of the piece is based on a popular rhythmic folk dance in Bulgaria called Kopanitsa, while the melody creates a fugue between the different voices of the orchestra. The Kids are the little of the mountain goats - free to frolic high above tree line, above any human traces, as close to the clouds as one can get and still be touching the ground below. They are carefree, daring, and somewhat naive, yet safe under the watchful gaze of their parent. The movements ends in cascading repetitions of a musical motif in 5/8 representing the relentless passing of time or at least our perception of it.

ISBN 9790570485277.'Plateau of Dances with a Scottish Flavour' Plateau of Dances with a Scottish Flavour was composed in autumn 2016, Eastbourne, and is inspired by my childhood in Doune, Perthshire; as well as the Ceilidhs and Feis (cultural festival in the Highlands) my daughter, Clara, and I were immersed in when we lived in the picturesque village of Kingussie, Badenoch and Strathspey. The four dances are a celebration of my love and nostalgia for Scotland, and an expression of my family's Scottish memories. Each dance comes with a quote from my favourite poet, Robert Burns, whose insightful and sensitive observations are a poignant appreciation of everyday life. Why the reference to Scottish food? Because this piece is dedicated to my father, Papou, who appreciates a merry supper. The 1st Movement, 'To the Mighty Haggis', is a Strathspey with its characteristic Scotch snap -a short-long rhythm, as if saying the word 'haggis'; which is fitting as the Scottish bard's quote comes from his poem Address to a Haggis, traditionally said on Burns' Night. The 2nd Movement, 'The Humble Shortbread', is a Reel; as is usually the case in Scottish dances. It should be played with a slightly 'snappy', swung rhythm. 'What though on homely fare we dine, [...] A man is a man for all that' comes from my favourite Burns' poem: A Man's a Man for A' That. And who doesn't enjoy the humble shortbread? There is a more reflective, nostalgic mood to the 3rd Movement, 'Ode to the Homely (salty) Porridge'. The Air is a reminiscence of the quiet evenings Clara and I would spend in Kingussie, with our view of the beautifully haunting mountains. 'What will I get to my supper, [...] Ye'se get a panfu' o' plumpin parridge' comes from Burns' The Shepherd's Wife who tries to entice her husband back home with the promise of porridge (the Scottish way: with salt). Finally, the 4th Movement, 'Too Many Drams of Whisky', is a cheerful and lively Jig. It's the convivial merriness of being with friends and family, maybe at a Ceilidh, with a wink to Scotland's 'water of life'. 'We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet, For auld lang syne' comes from Burns' famous Auld Lang Syne: a fitting end to our musical and culinary tour of Scotland.
