Andrej Makor, currently a master student of composition at the Conservatorio Cesare Pollini in Padua, has already won numerous international composition prizes. The highly respected works by the artist born in Slovenia in 1987 are performed by renowned choirs, ensembles and soloists at prestigious competitions and festivals, among others. His composition O Emmanuel for which he was awarded the 2nd prize of the International Composition Competition 'Musica Sacra Nova' 2016 is based on the original Gregorian chant of the last of a total of seven so-called O antiphons which are sung at the seven Advent days with the Magnificat at Vespers in anticipation of Christmas Eve. Makor's score which follows the traditional motet form but is structured in a more modern form begins with the original Gregorian chorale. Its melody runs through various voice groupings in the course of the piece. In the concluding 'Domine Deus noster' whose pressing character becomes obvious in the constantly recurring triplet figurations of the middle parts, the work imbued with the idea of eternity reaches its extremely impressive climax.

This collection of 10 piano solos features calming and comforting arrangements of favorite hymns appropriate for funerals or memorial services. Flowing and peaceful, these beautiful arrangements can be used for other occasions as well and are a welcome addition to the church pianist\'s sacred repertoire. The songs are arranged (both thematically and musically) so that they flow nicely from one to the next for continuous, extended play.

Kyrie und Gloria sind zwei jeweils funfminutige Chorwerke, in denen die Menschenstimmen mit den Gesangen ozeanischer Wale dialogisieren: der Walgesang scheint einmal ein fast menschenahnliches Kyrie und dann Gloria zu sprechen, was jeweils in derselben Tonart aufgegriffen und dann als Antiphon dem Chor zugeteilt wurde. Mit einem schlichten Chorpart und den zugespielten Gesangen der Wale entsteht ein emotionales Loben und Verbundensein mit Natur und Schopfung.

The Spanish composer Rafael Sanchez Mombiedro set the well-established text 'O Magnum Mysterium' on the Coming of God to music in a new and inspiring way. He plays with dynamics and strange harmonies, thus giving the concert programme of the experienced choirs that certain something.

Talk about a perfect match! The composer is himself both a harpist and an organist. This collection gives both players plenty to do while being quite manageable to play and to put together. Since organists are often expected to suggest music for other instrumentalists, this set is good to have around.
