Published by Jack Stanley Evans (A0.964303). My MotherlandOriginally written for the film Battle on Shanggangling Mountain, this song’s popularity has since outgrown and outlived that of the movie. Although the film is about the Korean war, the lyrics of this song do not make any explicit reference to it, which allows the song to be relatable not only to soldiers, but to anyone who is far from home and missing their motherland.There are two distinct sections in this piece, and the difference between them should be clearly expressed to give the music its full effect. When performed vocally, the gentle and mournful verse is sung by a solo singer, who is then joined by a large choir for the faster, more bombastic chorus. Carefully observe all of the expression markings to give this gorgeous melody its full character.

Natalie Merchant's title cut from the 2001 album of the same name, which was dedicated to the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Although the songs were not inspired by the attacks, which occurred shortly after the album's release, there was a prescience in their lyrics, and especially in this song. In Merchant's words, it expresses a craving we all share now for the world we took for granted and lost. The words could now be seen as taking on a new relevance to life during a pandemic, and a plea to keep us safe: Motherland cradle me, close my eyes, lullaby me to sleep, keep me safe, lie with me, stay beside me, don’t go. This arrangement is written as a piano solo for Intermediate to Advanced players, but would also work well as an accompaniment to a vocalist.

The national anthem of Bulgaria arranged for Symphony Orchestra, Mila Rodino (Мила Родино [miɫɐ rɔdino], translated as Dear Motherland or Dear native land) is the current national anthem of Bulgaria.There are alternative versions for Symphony & Brass Quintet in my stores.It is based on the music and text of the song Gorda Stara Planina by Tsvetan Radoslavov, written and composed as he left to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian War in 1885. The anthem was adopted in 1964. The text has been changed many times, most recently in 1990.Between 1886 and 1944, the Bulgarian national anthem was Shumi Maritsa (Шуми Марица); from 1950 to 1964, it was My Bulgaria, land of heroes (Balgariyo mila, zemya na geroi, Българийо мила, земя на герои); in the brief period between these two, it was the march Republiko nasha, zdravey (Републико наша, здравей!).Originally written and composed by a Bulgarian student in 1885, as he went off to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian war, the song was titled “Горда Стара планина” (“Gorda Stara planina”) [Proudly Rise the Balkan Peaks]. The original lyrics have undergone revisions since its original composition, the latest after the fall of the communist government in 1990 where verses not in the original lyrics speaking of friendship with Russia, the Communist Party, and fallen fighters were removed. He was often credited as S. Tulikov in his musical works and his cameo appearance in Russian television series. Serafim Tulikov is known for his patriotic and officially ideological compositions.In his more lyrical songs of his early career, Tulikov developed his style of heartfelt and quiet melodies. Such songs include My Love, my Life (Жизнь моÑ, любовь моÑ) (lyrics by Anton Prishelets), I Love You, my Sea (Я люблю тебÑ, море) (lyrics by Anatoly Salnikov), Above the Moscow River (Ðад МоÑквою-рекой) (lyrics by Lev Kondyrev), and Golden Altai (Ðлтай золотой) (lyrics by Tsezar Solodar). The composer also made his contribution to a subgenre of the Soviet song, the army song. He authored a song dedicated to the Soviet Pacific Fleet, Above the Bleak Kuriles Range (Ðад Ñерой КурильÑкой грÑдою) (lyrics by Nikolai Bukin), a work which combined elements of heroic devotion to the Motherland with pensiveness and longing for the far-away family and its comforts.In reflecting on the sources of inspiration for his songs, Serafim Tulikov later confessed that it came mostly from the reminiscences of his homeland, Kaluga, and most of the elements within the songs were present in Kaluga. In the early 1960s, Tulikov would write a song dedicated to Kaluga, properly entitled The Town of My Youth (Город юноÑти моей) (lyrics by Mikhail Pliatskovsky), a sweet and unassuming yet sincere and heartfelt song.During Khrushchev's Virgin Lands Campaign of bringing the vast steppes of Kazakhstan and South Siberia into agricultural use, Tulikov composed another well known song, Komsomol Direction (КомÑомольÑÐºÐ°Ñ Ð¿ÑƒÑ‚ÐµÐ²ÐºÐ°) (lyrics by Tsezar Solodar), which declared: On the go! This song was also known as a revolutionary love song, for it also invokes the feeling of the Filipino Freedom Fighters during the 1896 Revolution for their motherland against the spanish colonial rule. The most popular arrangement of this song was set for mostly large ensembles. But with my arrangemet that is set for Piano and Voice, this iconic song will be more accessible for music students and performers.
