It is characterised by its two-beat emphasis over four (dos por cuatro) time signatures and is often based on repeated patterns such as ABAB or ABCAC. Ãngel Villoldo (16 February 1861 -14 October 1919) was an Argentinian born musician who was one of the pioneers of the tango. This piece has been arranged from the original score to be performed as a recital piece for accompanied flute. It is suitable for a student studying at grade 4 -5 level, and is an ideal piece to aid sight reading of syncopated rhythm.

This solo piano piece was written in the spring of 2020 in Oxford UK, during the "lockdown" period (i.e. confinement to home) associated with the the coronavirus pandemic. It is based on an earlier piece of mine (October Tango) which I wrote for string quartet, but is rendered here more pianistic, and includes new material. The pianistic standard is intermediate, and the duration is about 4 minutes. The soulful music is catchy, romantic and passionate, and can either simply be played for fun, or be used in a variety of events, such as Weddings, Parties, Tango Dances, Encores etc.

She breaks away from her expected role as a sheep in an obedient flock and becomes a wolf sharpening her teeth and honing her skills. Moreover, she calls for others to follow her to stand up and face the enemy. More than a century later, Storni’s voice still echoes with a powerful call to action in a world where women’s rights are as fragile as ever. Bored of its usual role as a bird, the flute breaks away from the flock to inhabitat the wolf through transformative electronic distortions. The main theme mimics actual wolf calls, surprisingly comfortable in the flute’s low register. The tango-infused choral harmonies evoke the dissonance and angst in women’s struggle for equality through the ages.

Trayectoria is the Spanish word for trajectory in the double sense of the flight path of a projectile or planet, or a person's life achievements. This 4-minute piece is a contemporary milonga (a musical genre strongly related to the tango). However, it has a harmonic peculiarity: the whole piece is based on a single chord (F sharp minor) from the beginning to the end. When the harmonic components are frozen, the melodic and rhythmical ones come easier to foreground. Connoisseurs will recognize some allusions to Sergei Prokofiev, Thelonious Monk, Alexander Scriabin & Co. Some advice for the performance: pay particular attention to the articulation. Generally speaking, articulation is disregarded as a secondary parameter, however it is as important as a correct diction and a clear pronunciation in theater or in movies. And particularly in Trayectoria ... some pieces can easily survive with an approximate articulation. This one wouldn't.
