The arrangement is scored for 10-piece brass ensemble: 3 trumpets (Bb), flugelhorn, two horns (F) with a substitute euphonium part for second horn, three trombones and tuba.Wikipedia: O Sacrum Convivium is a Latin prose text honoring the Blessed Sacrament. It was included as an antiphon to Magnificat in the vespers of the liturgical office on the feast of Corpus Christi. The text of the office is attributed with some probability to Saint Thomas Aquinas. Its sentiments express the profound affinity of the Eucharistic celebration, described as a banquet, to the Paschal mystery: O sacred banquet at which Christ is consumed, the memory of his Passion is recalled, our souls are filled with grace, and the pledge of future glory is given to us.

It is only after my studies at the Juilliard School in 2015 that I decided to set them to music. Each of the songs had to have, like the poems themselves, its distinct style. Accordingly, I came up with the idea of making them - to a certain extent - style studies. In the dedication line under every song title in this edition you will find the name of the composer whose style I gave my best to emulate. The first song, Spleen, is dedicated to Olivier Messiaen. The second song, Silence, is dedicated to Gérard Grisey. The third and last song, La Reine (The Queen), is dedicated to Francis Poulenc.​-Alexander Liebermann.

The Missa Sanctae Mariae Virginis – literally Mass of Saint Mary the Virgin – was composed for the Episcopal church of Saint Mary the Virgin, New York City, where the composer was Music Director & Organist from 2008 to 2013. The Kyrie was composed in 2016. The title makes reference to the name of the church, but also makes reference to the principal source of inspiration: two ancient plainsong melodies that accompany Marian texts (Salve regina and Ave maris stella). The Mass is composed in a vain that is influenced by the great parody Masses of Renaissance masters Palestrina, Lassus, and others. Nods are also made to the twentieth century, and particularly to the music of Herbert Howells and the Anglican tradition, and also to Jean Langlais, Olivier Messiaen, and similar French musical trends. It features a wide range of moods, from scintillating and exotic harmonies to thrilling rhythmic passages. The work is composed for 8-part choir with solo sections for additional voices from within the choir. The Mass can be performed complete as part of a church service. Likewise, any of the movements will work as independent compositions which makes them suitable for concert performance. The present edition contains the score of the interludio ecclesiastico come inserto tra il Credo e il Sanctus della Messa in re maggiore di Antonin Dvorak per coro, organo ed orchestra. The idea to compose a shorter work closely related to Antonin Dvořák's Mass in D major op. 86 came from the director of the course, Prof. Annedore Hacker-Jakobi, from which, after the composer's intensive study of Dvořák's tonally very bright Mass, a dark intermezzo developed as an insert between the Credo and the Sanctus. In the process, Dvořák's scoring was adopted unchanged. The frame text comes from the Credo and was deliberately chosen in reference to Olivier Messiaen's work of the same name. The central text Salvum me fac comes from Psalm 68 and has come down to us as a Gregorian responsorial chant. The title et expecto, intentionally omits the s in et exspecto contained in the ordinarium missae and emphasizes the contradictory meaning between the (Er)warten and the (Er)schauen.

Born in Beirut and trained at the Paris Conservatoire, the organist and composer Naji Hakim (*1955) has won numerous prizes both as a creative and as a performing artist. After having worked as an organist in Paris for many years, for example as successor to Olivier Messiaen at La Trinité, he has been composer-in-residence at the Royal Academy of Music in London since 2004. For the 100th anniversary of the Binns organ at the Albert Hall in Nottingham he was commissioned to write 'Fanfare for Nottingham'. The composer designed the work as 'a series of free and energetic variations on the melody of the hymn Nottingham accompanying a merry procession' – it has become a hymnic and effective work, a valuable addition to the organ repertoire.

That this is a very important oeuvre becomes clear from the fact that the premières were performed by important organists: Olivier Messiaen played the Chorale op. 90 and Maurice Duruflé the first Sonatina. Jean Guillou, one of the most important organ composers of our time, studied with Marcel Dupré, Maurice Duruflé and Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Convervatoire. As the work progresses, sound volume increases that symbolizes the coming of divine light. The latter half of the piece becomes quieter and ends in a major key; it depicts the assurance of peace and love. Meditation II is suitable for recital use, and may be performed during the Lenten season or Good Friday service. Organ registrations and tempo indications are only suggestions.

However, the name actually translates as “footlessâ€, owing to the Dutch explorer’s mistaken belief that the bird had no feet. The Bird of Paradise does have feet as well as beautiful feathers. This piece is based on the octatonic scale (semi-tone, tone alternating series) which was often used by Olivier Messiaen, who (by the way) incorporated bird song into some of his compositions. This mysterious sounding piece is from “88 Constellations†a collection by Heather Cattanach featuring one piece of piano music for each of the 88 constellations (to match the number of keys on a standard piano).
