Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.933611 Composed by John Stafford Smith. Arranged by Thomas Coker. Folk,Patriotic. Octavo. 4 pages. Thomas Rembert Coker Jr #3503513. Published by Thomas Rembert Coker Jr (A0.933611). In 2009 when Sanctuary Choir of South Main Baptist Church in Houston where I served as Music Minister was scheduled to sing the National Anthem for the Houston Astros baseball game, I carefully examined the several arrangements in our library and other resources. Finding nothing which met the simple, straight-forward criteria I was searching for, we created this simple arrangement. Since its addition to the music library it has proven very useful on numerous occasions for a variety of groups. About the National Anthem:The lyrics for The Star-Spangled Banner were written on September 14, 1814 from a British ship in the Baltimore Harbor where attorney Francis Scott Key had waited anxiously through the night as the twenty-five hour bombing of Ft. McHenry progressed. He had been sent to negotiate the release of an American civilian and then was held on board the ship. At the dawn’s early light when the flag could still be seen indicating the British had not taken the fort, he jotted down this poem which on March 3, 1931 finally became the National Anthem of the United States. Interestingly, it was Robert Ripley who in November of 1929 drew a panel in his syndicated cartoon, Ripley’s Believe It or Not stating Believe It or Not, America has no national anthem. With the encouragement of John Philip Sousa, President Herbert Hoover signed into law the adoption of The Star-Spangled Banner to rectify this situation. According to the Smithsonian, the melody, written by John Stafford Smith, was originally titled Anacreon in Heaven. Anacreon was an ancient Greek poet known for his love of wine and love. The song had become the constitutional song of a London gentlemen’s club called the Anacreontic Society. Could this explain the wide range of the melody? By utilizing this tune to the moving text, this once merry drinking song took on a bold new and powerful meaning. Thomas Coker, August 27, 2015

Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.827774 Composed by Muisc by John Stafford Smith and Words by Francis Scott Key. Arranged by Sylvia Chapa. A Cappella,Holiday,Instructional,Patriotic. Octavo. 2 pages. Sylvia Chapa #4632789. Published by Sylvia Chapa (A0.827774). An easy 3-part SAB Choir arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner, the US National Anthem, this was originally created for a high school choir with limited music reading capabilities. It may be sung a cappella or with the keyboard accompaniment. The accompaniment supports and doubles the parts often, and is helpful in the beginning stages of teaching the song. It could be played by a high school pianist or on a church organ. It could be sung as a vocal solo by reading the top notes (melody). Suitable for a vocal solo or choir at a ball game, Memorial Day programs/church if allowed, Fourth of July, Veteran's Day, Patriots Day, and any patriotic observance in the US. This is in the Medium High Key of A, so if you have that soprano, go for it! The MP3 recorded sounds are computer generated voices and piano in the key of A. Note that it is also available in the lower keys of G, Ab, and highest key of Bb. The optional high note is then G, Ab, or A. .

Star-Spangled Banner (Four Historic Versions of the National Anthem)

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Tuba - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.740291 Composed by Smith, John Stafford. Arranged by Craig Garner. Folk,Graduation,Holiday,Patriotic. Score and parts. 31 pages. Dorm 40 Music #6352917. Published by Dorm 40 Music (A0.740291). The Star-Spangled Banner was not officially recognized as the National Anthem of the United States until an act of Congress in 1931. Prior to that, the US War Department designated the song as the National Anthem in 1917, at least for the military. But, in 1917, the was no standardized version of the Star-Spangled Banner for military bands to perform. Two separate committees were formed to create standardized versions of the Star-Spangled Banner, one sanctioned for the military, and the other for non-military use. This unique arrangement contains four historic versions of the Star-Spangled Banner: 1917 Service Version, 1918 Standardized Version, John Philip Sousa’s arrangement from 1889, and the Department of Defense Edition from 1955. All four versions are similar, yet surprisingly different in the harmonic and rhythmic treatment of the melody. In addition, the arrangement includes each part in both concert B-Flat and A-flat (A-flat being the preferred key used for singing). Play them all, or just pick the one you like the best. Scored for brass quintet (2 B-flat trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba). The Star-Spangled is appropriate for almost any occasion. Published by Dorm 40 Music, www.dorm40music.com

Published by Alexander Burden (A0.899869). 2018 Instrumental Arranging Contest EntryGenre: National Anthem, PatrioticLength: 1:20Instrumentation: Alto Saxophone and EuphoniumThe Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics come from Defence of Fort M'Henry, a poem written on September 14, 1814, by the then 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the large U.S. flag, with 15 stars and 15 stripes, known as the Star-Spangled Banner, flying triumphantly above the fort during the U.S. victory. The poem was set to the tune of a popular British song written by John Stafford Smith and renamed The Star-Spangled Banner. With a range of 19 semitones, it is known for being very difficult to sing. Although the poem has four stanzas, only the first is commonly sung today. This fun and accessible arrangement is perfect for sporting events, school and corporate functions, parades, private events and any other occasion that calls for use of the Star-Spangled Banner! The Arranger:Email: alburden9012@eagle.fgcu.eduAlexander Burden is a Florida born, professional musician and music educator residing in Southwest Florida. Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.827772 Composed by Music by John Stafford Smith and Words by Francis Scott Key. Arranged by Sylvia Chapa. A Cappella,Graduation,Holiday,Instructional,Patriotic. Octavo. 2 pages. Sylvia Chapa #4632785. Published by Sylvia Chapa (A0.827772). It may also be sung as a solo if following the highest notes in the treble clef (melody). This is in the Medium Low Key of Ab, so if you have that soprano, go for it! The MP3 recorded sounds are computer generated voices and piano in the key of Ab. Note that it is also available in the lower key of G, and higher keys of A, and Bb. The optional high note is then G, A, or Bb. Suitable for a vocal solo at a ball game, Memorial Day programs/church if allowed, Fourth of July, Veteran's Day, Patriots Day, and any patriotic observance in the US.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1152344 Composed by Francis Scott Key (1779-1843) John Stafford Smith (1750-1836). Arranged by Joseph Pugh. Patriotic. Score and parts. 6 pages. Joseph Pugh #752566. Published by Joseph Pugh (A0.1152344). The Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics come from the Defense of Fort Mchenry, a poem written on September 14, 1814, by 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key. The poem was set to the tune of a popular British song written by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men's social club in London. To Anacreon in Heaven (or The Anacreontic Song), with various lyrics, was already popular in the United States. This setting, renamed The Star-Spangled Banner, soon became a well-known U.S. patriotic song. With a range of 19 semitones, it is known for being very difficult to sing. Although the poem has four stanzas, only the first is commonly sung today. This is Joseph Pugh's brass quintet arrangement of the song.

The national anthem of the USA arranged for full orchestra. There are also versions for Brass Quintet & String Orchestra in my stores.

"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics come from the Defence of Fort M'Henry, a poem written on September 14, 1814, by the then 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the large U.S. flag, with 15 stars and 15 stripes, known as the Star-Spangled Banner, flying triumphantly above the fort during the U.S. victory.

The poem was set to the tune of a popular British song written by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men's social club in London. "Hail, Columbia" served this purpose at official functions for most of the 19th century. "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", whose melody is identical to "God Save the Queen", the United Kingdom's national anthem, also served as a de facto national anthem. Following the War of 1812 and subsequent U.S. wars, other songs emerged to compete for popularity at public events, among them "America the Beautiful", which itself was being considered before 1931, as a candidate to become the national anthem of the United States.

John Stafford Smith (30 March 1750 – 21 September 1836) was a British composer, church organist, and early musicologist.
