Though Wendy doubts her ability to fly, Peter teaches her the only way to reach her dream land is to leave her worries behind and have faith and trust and a little help of pixie dust... Upon the farewell of a beloved who reminds me much the character of Peter Pan, I composed this piece as a remembrance of the happy time we have shared and wish his dreams come true as he continues to fly on his musical journey. Mavis Pan Come with me where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Land. Let not doubt crush your wings, let not fear steal your dreams. Dreams do come true, if only we wish hard enough. All you need is faith and trust and a little bit of pixie dust. The History of the Four Immortal Chaplains and the United States Army HymnDuring World War II, four Army chaplains met at the Army Chaplains School at Harvard University. ere, they received training for their assignments in the European theater. They then boarded and sailed on the United States Army Transport (USAT) Dorchester to report to their new assignments. The USAT Dorchester left New York on January 23, 1943, en route to Greenland. She carried about 900 military personnel and was escorted by Coast Guard Cutters Tampa, Escanaba, and Comanche. During the early morning hours of February 3, 1943, the vessel was torpedoed by the German submarine U-223 off Newfoundland in the North Atlantic. As the Dorchester sank on that fateful day of February 3, 1943, the four Army chaplains on board helped their soldiers board lifeboats as they handed out life jackets. When they ran out of life jackets, the chaplains gave their own life jackets to four soldiers that they might live. Then the chaplains joined arms and prayed as they went down with the Dorchester. These were young chaplains, new to the Army, holding the rank of first lieutenant. They included Methodist minister Reverend George L. Fox, Reform Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Catholic priest Father John P. Washington, and Reformed Church in America minister Reverend Clark V. Poling. e four chaplains were posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. Chaplain (MAJ) James F. Linzey, USA (Ret.), who was one of four military chaplains in his family, composed the United States Army Hymn, “Eternal Father, Hear Our Prayer,” in remembrance of the “Four Immortal Chaplains” on board the Dorchester. Also, James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

It celebrates the natural beauty of the Sandhills, prairies, forests, and bluffs, along with the strength of its people, its flourishing family friendly communities, and its deep and rich traditions in the arts. I have lived near mountains, near oceans, and visited some of the most beautiful places in the world, but none of those places have ever felt as much like home as Nebraska. Nebraska, My Heartland incorporates the poetry of both Willa Cather, the famous Nebraskan poet and writer who helped the rest of America gain an appreciation for the pioneer life, and Veronica Torraca-Bragdon, a contemporary poet and friend whose heart will always belong to Nebraska. Cather’s poem, Prairie Spring was chosen because it vividly portrays the struggles of the pioneers who originally settled here, yet juxtaposes this struggle with youthful determination, and the optimism and enthusiasm brought about by hope. Veronica’s poem, titled Nebraska, is the centerpiece for the fanfare and celebration of a state that abounds with success in all of the ways that make Nebraska a great place to live. The music begins as the sun is about to rise and burst forth with the promise of a new day. It speaks of Nebraska’s natural beauty and landscapes while the sweet song of the Western Meadowlark, our state bird, drifts on the wind. Next, the changing seasons and thriving spirit of Nebraska’s people are portrayed with an energetic, youthful melody leading into a celebratory sesquicentennial fanfare. But as the seasons change, the listener is reminded that to thrive is also to persevere, and soon a storm begins to loom. First the rolling thunder, then the rain, and finally the full devastation of nature’s fury are realized by the combined forces of both ensembles. Yet, as hope springs eternal, we are reminded again of the strength of the pioneer and the roots that keep us anchored against the storm. But on October 3, 1775, Congress rejected it. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress changed courses and established the Continental Navy. This was the birth of the United States Navy. The Continental Navy obtained and armed two civilian vessels, the Andrew Doria and the Cabot. The first United States Navy ship was the USS Alfred, which was commissioned by Captain Dudley Saltonstall on December 3, 1775. John Adams served as the first Chairman of the Naval Committee, but in 1776 the Continental Congress appointed Commodore Esek Hopkins to be the Navy’s first Commander. After the Revolutionary War, the government abolished the Continental Navy. But 11 years later, Congress passed the Naval Act of 1794, which created the United States Navy. The Navy emerged from World War II as the most powerful Navy in the world.In 1860, William Whiting of Winchester, England, wrote a poem titled “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” for one of his students, who was preparing to sail for the United States. The poem alludes to Psalm 107 and is a prayer for God’s protection from seafaring danger. In 1861, Rev. John Bacchus Dykes, an Anglican clergyman, composed the tune “Melita,” in 88 88 88 iambic meter, to accompany the hymn. “Melita” is the archaic name of Malta, which is an ancient seafaring nation. It was the site of the shipwreck that involved the Apostle Paul, as described in the Acts of the Apostles, chapters 27–28. In 1814, Malta became the Crown Colony of the United Kingdom, but in 1964 it gained independence and joined the British Commonwealth. The hymn has long been used by Navy and civilian chaplains during chapel services at sea, in navy and civilian maritime contexts. The Royal Navy, navies of the British Commonwealth, and the United States Navy adopted the hymn in the late 19th century as “The Navy Hymn.” Many verses have been written to Melita. James F. Linzey selected the four verses by Whiting (verses 1-3) and Hamilton (verse 4), which are the verses traditionally used in the Armed Forces Hymnal. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

I've found that music with autobiographical references has a particular expressive strength.I was in Finland once (performing at the World Tango Summit in Seinäjoki, 2011). The city of Seinäjoki is quite close to the Arctic Circle, so in summer the sun doesn't really set: instead of a night you have several hours of an eternal twilight.The feeling was that of a transition stopped in time, as a slow motion film of someone springing over a wide river. This can be a wonderful experience (and for me it was), but can be also unnatural to us, Latinamericans, used to the day is sun and night is no sun approach to life.Anecdotically, the temperature during these days in Seinäjoki was 31 Celsius. So my experience of Finland is that of a very warm place. I guess other persons have colder experiences. There are three versions of this piece: Piano solo (pedal all throughout, resonances) 7:24 Tibetan singing bowls 7:40 Electronic sounds (ambient) 7:50 The bowls version is recorded at A = 432 Hz. In 1982, the Vladimir Ilyich Lenin Nuclear Power Plant started a series of tests to simulate an electrical power outage to help create procedures for maintaining the circulation of the reactor coolant for the 60-75 seconds needed until the back-up generators got to full power. This was key to ensure that the coolant pumps did not stop working; otherwise, it could lead to the core overheating or, worse, the core melting down. The first test was unsuccessful, and, after some modifications, the test was repeated in 1984 and 1985. On 25 April 1986, a fourth test was scheduled to take place at 1415hrs during a controlled power-down of one of the reactors. However, at 1400hrs, another regional power station went offline, causing the test to be delayed by 10-hours. With the well-prepared day and evening crews’ shifts over, the test was left to the unprepared night crew. Unbeknownst to them, safety systems and protocols had been disabled or ignored earlier in the day, power-output issues had left the reactor in an unstable condition and there were basic design flaws with the reactor when it was constructed. All of this led to an uncontrolled chain reaction and, at some point around 01:23:45 in the morning of 26 April 1986, explosions and a fire destroyed a reactor building of reactor number 4 at Chernobyl. Radioactive contamination was released into the surrounding areas, 100,000s of people were evacuated, a 30-kilometre exclusion zone was put in place and whilst, officially, only 31 people died from this disaster, it has been estimated that between 4,000 and 16,000 fatalities are related to the events of that day. The area is likely to be unsafe for the next 20,000 years. The soundtrack to the TV mini-series Chernobyl is by the Icelandic composer, Hildur Guðnadóttir. The music is made, almost entirely, from sounds that she recorded at a decommissioned Nuclear power plant in Lithuania, giving it a very raw quality. She says the show itself portrays the disaster with respect and realism, and I was adamant the score reflects this. I wanted to show the viewer how it would feel to be there, and to tell this story of fear, loss and, ultimately, human error. Vichnaya Pamyat translated to Memory Eternal in Ukrainian, but a better English equivalent would be Rest in Peace. It is a hymn used during Ukrainian Orthodox Christian church funerals and memorial services. Guðnadóttir’s arrangement is heard at the end of the final episode of the series. This arrangement is in the original key. A transposed version, making it easier to play, is available, item number H0.1100563-SC004126925. The arrangement also includes alternative parts for tenor horn, treble-clef trombone/euphonium and tuba. The hymns are scored in four parts and could be used with virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments. They are presented in a set of three books and include full four-part instrumental scores plus separate parts in a variety of useful transpositions. Parts 1 and 2 (soprano and alto) are provided in B flat, E flat and C (8ve higher than concert); Part 3 (tenor) in B flat (9th above concert), E flat, F and C (bass clef) and Part 4 (bass) in B flat, E flat and C. There’s also an optional but useful simplified keyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part kept as simple as possible. It could be used as the basis of an accompaniment and means that you can use the arrangements as solos, duets or trios. The piano part too means that you can use the arrangements as solos, duets or trios. These arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. This is essential music for schools and many churches and contains probably all the hymns you’ll ever need. The entire collection of scores and parts is presented in a single 123-page PDF file for instant download.
